countries in the world by the golden jubilee of the union. In order to translate the vision into reality, its pillars have been mapped into six national priorities
which represent the key focus sectors of government action in the coming years.

The UAE will be among the 20 highest performing countries in PISA in 2021 (Programme for International Student Assessment)
The UAE will be among the 15 highest performing countries in TIMSS in 2021 (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study)
UAE National Agenda 95% of children in the UAE attend Pre-primary education
90% of Emirati students complete a ‘high school’ secondary education
100% schools have high-quality teachers
Highly effective school leadership
High skills in Arabic language - 90% of Year 8 students develop high skills in Arabic language in the UAE NAP assessment
No students need undertake a university foundation programme

In curriculum design; in teaching and learning; learning technologies; physical and virtual learning spaces; assessment
UAE National Agenda – TIMSS, PIRLS, PISA• TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study) ) – formal
classroom mathematics and science in terms of content. Students in Grade 4 and Grade 8 take the tests – every 4 years
• PIRLS (Progress of International Reading and Literacy Study – construct, extend and reflect on the meaning of what has been read – students in Grade 4 are tested every 5 years
• PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) is about application of (mathematics/science/reading) knowledge to the real world - not directly linked to the school curriculum based around problem solving and thinking – • 3 year cycle - students tested are 15 years of age – end of compulsory
education• Once tested, KHDA set targets for schools in Dubai
PISA – Citizens of the World
PISA asks the following questions to establish the extent to which education prepares students to be active, reflective, intelligent citizens: Are students well prepared for future challenges? Can they analyse, reason and communicate effectively? How well do they transfer ideas and solve problems? Do they have the capacity to continue learning throughout life?
• Drive improvement of learner outcomes, potential life chances and policy development for governments
• Shanghai has the highest performing scores in mathematics with a mean score of 613 – 119 points above the OECD average in 2012 (494) and 119 is equivalent to three years of schooling
PISA Students’ Engagement, Drive and Self Beliefs - Findings • Lack of punctuality and truancy are negatively associated with student
performance
• Arriving late for school is associated with a 27 point lower score in Maths
• Missing classes or days of school is associated with a 37 point lower score in Maths This is the equivalent to nearly one year of schooling
• Good teacher-student relations are strongly associated with greater student engagement
• Self belief in mathematics can significantly affect performance
• Motivation, drive and confidence in oneself are essential if students are to fulfill their potential
