UNBREAKABLEWELLBEINGLOOK, THINK AND FEEL UNBREAKABLE.
UNBREAKABLE WELLBEING2
WHEN IT COMES TO YOUR HEALTH, THE BIGGEST BENEFIT IS NOT PHYSICAL; IT’S MENTAL.In Australia and many other parts of the world, what we’re doing to develop our physical, mental and emotional capabilities isn’t working.
• 63% of Australian adults are overweight or obese, and this is set to grow to 79% by 20251.
• 76% of employees will experience mental burnout this year2.
• 45% of Australian adults will experience a mental illness in their lifetime3.
This leads to:
EXHAUSTIONThe stamina required to perform your role well leaves you with little energy to do anything else. At the end of the day, you’re not recharging your batteries. You’re collapsing into bed with one hand still on your phone.
• Thetiredbrainisselfish.Itfeelsentitledtosomethingsweet,astiffdrinkorabigmeal. Weight gain is an inevitable outcome.
• Your children have got to an age where they can outrun Mum or Dad and you can hear yourself say ‘no’ to new experiences with your kids.
RESISTANCEDistracted by work, the problems that you encounter with your wellbeing grow larger and build momentum. You build your defensive walls higher and begin to accept your limitations as natural or inevitable. You make excuses instead of using your proven problem-solving skills to create solutions.
• When you don’t give yourself permission to ask for help, you try to solve your wellbeing problems on your own. However, what you are actually doing is setting yourself up for a failure that can become permanent.
• Impatient to get results, you attempt to achieve in days, what requires months or even years to accomplish. Failing after giving your all leads to further resistance that’s almost impossible to overcome.
FEELING UNFULFILLEDMany leaders who come to us have achieved career success or the lifelong dream of raising a family. They are successful by almost every measure, but they don’tfeelfulfilled.Thiscanmystifythem–theyhave

nothing to be unhappy about; the life they have built looks successful, but they are plagued by feelings of resentment and unhappiness.
• Theycanbecometoofocusedonanarrowdefinitionof success, believing that professional success anditsfinancialrewardswillbringeverythingtheydesire: joy, respect, even love.
• Life can become dull; they can’t remember the last time they tried anything new or welcomed excitement into their life.
Leaderscanseethetimeandefforttolookafter their wellbeing as a problem, not an opportunity. They become stuck in bad-decision whirlpools: they know they have a problem, that it’s getting worse, and they are not going to do anything about it. They stick to what they know: they work more. This isn’t just about leaders expanding waistlines; it’s about the decline of the leader.
“Frustration and embarrassment brought me to believe that exercise just wasn’t for me anymore. I was too old and too busy. I had accepted that I was just a big person. I stopped making excuses. I just said no.
This was costing me more than I was prepared to admit. My wife would often ask me to come for a walk with the family to the local park. I am now embarrassed to say that on most occasions I wouldn’t join them. I would much prefer the safety of the couch and TV. After all I worked hard during the week, surely I deserved a rest. There came a time when my wife stopped asking me to join them.
Each time I let them go in my heart I knew what I was missing. I was missing those moments with my beautiful wife and growing kids. I was missing being part of their lives, and I could see the lack of understanding and disappointment in their faces.”
David Heine, C-Level Banking & Payments Executive, before he lost 33kg of fat and put on 7kg of muscle and was the first executive to go through the Unbreakable program.
Perhaps most concerning is that the rate of decline is accelerating.

THE UNBREAKABLE WELLBEING PROGRAMThe Unbreakable Wellbeing program is our signature ten-week coaching program for leaders to make their physical health the foundation for their mental performance and emotional happiness.
It’s not about how much you lift or how fast you run. It’s about becoming the person who refuses to accept poor results, who believes change is possible and who has the capability to follow through.
When you develop your wellbeing, the little wins you experience have a direct impact on your brain. They change the way you feel, what you think and how you interact with others.
As the wins pile up, they allow you to build yourself up as a stronger, more mentally and physically capable leader.Youwillfindyourselffeelingcapableoftakingon greater challenges and guiding your team in a way you once thought impossible.
The journey to elevating your leadership, culture and team performance starts with your wellbeing.
For: Leaders who have sacrificed their health for their career
To: Look, think and feel Unbreakable.

Exercise
The order of these three skills is designed to avoid quick failure or serious injury. Few people are physically prepared for intense exercise. Rapid and repetitive movements only make things worse.

You can use these skills to drive weight loss or an athletic pursuit if you wish, but that’s only a secondary goal. The primary goal is
to create the physical state in which you are primed to make your best decisions.

STEP 2: MENTALStep 2 is about developing the nine mental skills outside the limits of your technical role. For example, you might feel optimistic when you’re using the skills you’ve spent a lifetime developing, but you’ve only truly mastered the skill of optimism when you can remain optimistic even when you’re trying something that is entirely new to you. This will be crucial when you start learning new physical skills, but it can be applied in every area of your personal and professional life.
Whenfacingsignificantchallengesliketakingcontrolofyourwellbeing, thesearethementalskillsthatyoumustpossess to turn your best intentions into action:

STEP 3: EMOTIONALNo matter what the goal, when we ask our clients “why”, they invariably shrug their shoulders and say “I don’t know. I just want to feel good.” This happens so often we no longer ask. Instead, we get our clients to work towards positive psychology pioneer Martin Seligman’sdefinitionofpsychologicalwellbeing.Accordingtohisresearch, feelinggoodrequiresfiveelements that come together to form the easy-to-remember acronym PERMA.
Positive Emotion
Having as many pleasures as you can; the smiling and laughingatthefrivolousstuffyoudojustforfun.
Engagement
The full deployment of your skills, strengths and attention into a challenging task. You become so engrossed that the rest of the world drops away.
Relationships
Strong relationships are crucial to our sense of psychological wellbeing. They are one of our greatest sources of joy and deepest sources of inner strength.
Meaning

If you’ve let yourself down before, don’t assume that you’ll let yourself down again. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you have made. You are here now, and the past is no predictor for the future. It’s time to unburden yourself of those past failures; this attempt will be unlike all the others. What is most important is that you wipe the slate clean and start with an open mind. Let’s begin.

a 3-year absence whilst living in London, I walked straight into managing the impact of the pandemic–Iprioritizedworkandthewelfareofothers, neglecting my own health and wellbeing.
2021 brings the opportunity to reset and after justmyfirstweekwithJonathanIamalreadyexperiencing the change I want to see to my physical health and mental performance.”
Emmerentia Wilding, Managing Director, Estee Lauder Companies, Australia & New Zealand
“The biggest learning, and this something that has held me back in life and in my career, is that everyone needs a coach. There is not someone
who is skilled enough or talented enough, experienced enough where they can not be
helped….And right before we meet, I decided to commit myself to my hardest physical challenge
yet which was to hike the John Muir Trail in California a 350km hike, climbing 14000m, most of the hike is done at a elevation about 3000m
and you have to carry everything with you. I needed your help.”
Dan Ross,ManagingDirector,Optimizely (In preparation for the hike Dan transformed from a 110kg executive to a 90kg athlete so
that he didn’t let the other guys down)
“I was sick of yo-yo-ing. I had to stop what I was doing and start considering my health more
important than a work project. I had to map out the project with KPIs and get people’s buy-in so they understood its importance and prioritise
the tasks the same way I would at work."
Rosi Fernandez, Managing Director, La Prairie Group Aust & NZ

"There can be nothing more important than knowing that my son’s memory of his father
will be composed of images of us enjoying life together rather than those of a fat, lethargic man permanently attached to the couch. Will is proud
of his Dad and I’m proud of me too.”
David Heine, C-Level Banking & Payments Executive
"I thought I was a good boss, husband and father. However, I was overweight, often lethargic and looked older than my age. This was not a good
example and my body was breaking down. Luckily, I found the inspiration and support. I have lost
30kg and have found the balance between fun and discipline. Now my kids know anything is possible.”
