HOB PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE JIM CRAIG
WELCOME BACK TO OUR NEIGH-BORS FROM THE NORTH
As you will see everything is as you left it except for a very large road patch in front of the clubhouse. Your neighbors can fill you in on the details of the water main break. Fortunately, it turned out to be not as bad as it looks.
Some of the things you missed over the summer was a trip to Tropicana Field for a Rays game. We also had a boat tour of Tampa Bay from the Port of Tam-pa. Then there was the trip to see the monkeys (primate sanctuary); ask the ones who went about that one. And there was also a very nice July 4th celebra-tion that included some great food.
Those who were here enjoyed an ice cream social Sunday, August 28th. If you missed that, plan on com-ing to the Labor Day—End-of-Summer party at the clubhouse.
There will be some business to take care of as you return. HOB meeting, Thursday, September 22, 7 o'clock with 6:30 - 7:00pm question and answer open forum with 3 min time limit per speaker.
Our ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING will be Octo-ber 29th at 1pm. At this meeting three board posi-tions will be voted on. Also a vote on a partially or ful-ly funded budget will be voted on. The first mailing for this meeting was sent out on August 29th and con-tains the form for you to submit to run for office and a proposed budget among other things. Then on Sep-tember 24th the second notice will go out. Proxies will be in this mailing among other things. Remember it’s VERY IMPORTANT we have a quorum for this meeting, so everyone please be there.
If you cannot be there please fill out and return the proxy ballot.
Thank you for being an active member in your com-munity. Jim Craig
Here’s a handy form to keep your very important medications on. Fill it out, cut it out, and stick it on your refrigerator

WOMEN’S CLUB Deb Engstrom, President
Thanks to 1st VP Flo Guimond for or-ganizing all our summer activities. It's been great fun! We have been on monthly luncheons, toured the solid waste facility, taken a boat tour of Tam-pa Bay Harbor, and been to "The Beach"
at Amalie Arena. Summer fun is not over yet. There will be a lunch outing on Friday, Sept. 16, leaving the clubhouse at 11am. (open to all ladies in unit 3). We will also have an outing on Tuesday, Sept. 27, leaving the clubhouse at 9:30am. Look for fur-ther details and sign up sheets for both activities on the clubhouse bulletin board. Our regular monthly meetings/luncheons at the clubhouse will begin Fri-day, Oct 21 at 12 noon. We have many great things planned for the coming year and hope you will join us. We are still looking for board members for the coming year. Please contact a current board mem-ber if you are interested.
MEN’S CLUB Collin Simpson, President We are anxiously awaiting the re-turn of our winter residents and friends. With them, and the advent of the new cooler season, activities will be intensifying. The next meeting of the Men's Club will be on Thursday, September 8th, at
6pm. As customary, refreshments and food will be served. All male residents of Unit 3 are welcome as our guests. Please sign the list on the club house bulletin board if you wish to attend. “Looking forward to seeing you there.” Collin
UNIT 3 HANDBOOK REMINDERS
RULES & REGULATIONS:
In May of 2016, several updates were made, most of them regarding parking and construction code. All changes can be viewed on our website at www.mainlands.org (click on Condo Docu-ments in the upper right corner). All updates are highlighted. There is also a paper copy (PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE) located in the clubhouse office for your review.
PARKING REMINDERS:
12:00am to 6:00am - NO overnight street park-ing. You CAN and WILL be towed at owners ex-pense. This is so emergency vehicles can get through. Seconds count in an emergency! (Note updated time change).
Overnight parking in the clubhouse parking lot requires a current (UNEXPIRED) permit obtained at the Mainlands office. You CAN and WILL be towed without it.
SOCIAL CLUB Barbara Konvicka, President Welcome back Courier. Been busy here in Unit 3 this past summer with many activities. Thanks goes out to Flo Guimond and her faithful workers for keeping Bingo going. Also to the Women's Club for sponsoring so many great excursions that included the men. Peter Cunningham is our
year-round email messenger that keeps us in-formed of happenings. Our end of summer fling will be Labor Day, Monday, Sept 5th, 5pm at the Club House, tickets $8. Nancy Crigger is the tick-et master. You can get tickets at Kaffee Klatch or
call her to reserve your tickets; phone 561-0468. The menu is by Chef Joe and helpers. If you all enjoyed the 4th of July party wait ’til you see this one! Mel will be our fun host; something for eve-ryone. Come and enjoy; ticket sales for this event end after KK on September 1st. I cannot wait for the fall season to start; we have so many Social Club sponsored activities, plus all the clubs will be back in full form. Come to KK on Thursday mornings at 8:30am. We discuss up- coming events and items of community interest. Tickets can be purchased there for the many events during the year - see you there. Barbara
BINGO Flo Guimond
Bingo went well all summer. Look-ing forward to the return of the snowbirds and the change in vol-unteers for the winter months. Along with the changes, will come my departure from running bingo. I need to start with thanking all the "faithful" ones that have been with me forever, who help to keep
things running smoothly. You are the "best" group of volunteers that there is. I will still be present but in a lesser role. For the new people, Bingo is held on Tuesdays at 6pm with games starting promptly at six. Come and enjoy the so-cial atmosphere.

NEWSY STUFF
I periodically send out an email containing “Newsy Stuff” of interest to Unit
3 residents. I have a group email list of about 208 Unit 3 residents. I will
add your address to my group list if you contact me at
mainlands@comcast.net. I do not send junk mail or forward jokes; only
Newsy Stuff pertaining to Unit 3 or Mainlands in general. If you would ra-
ther not receive occasional emails from me, just reply and I will remove you
from my group list. Peter Cunningham, Courier Editor
Welcome to our new neighbors! Hope to see you out in the community and at some of our activities. To current residents, if they live near you, introduce yourself and welcome them.
UP IN FLAMES
There’s a hidden fire hazard in almost every home….it’s the dryer vent! Over time, your dryer vent fills
with lint. Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow
of air, cause excessive heat build-up, and result in a fire. Have your vent professionally cleaned by a
certified appliance repair person.

I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do
that second week.
Some minds are like concrete;
thoroughly mixed up and permanently set.
I don't have gray hair. I have "wisdom highlights".

SPOTLIGHT DANCERS Jean Simpson, Producer
Another year has passed so quickly. This is the 6th year the Spotlight Dancers have been in existence. Every year we are challenged to produce a new show with new costumes, mu-sic, choreography and songs. We are very proud to be able to
give this gift to our neighbors. In addition to our last perfor-mance for the season which was at Unit 3, we performed for disabled veterans at the Assisted Living Home at Bay Pines Hospital. We are now in rehearsal for a new show and are looking forward to seeing you in the fall.
