Why do we use technology in

teaching English?

I believe that technology for English language teaching is extremely important. Since students learn at different rates of speed, individual technology gives each student the chance to work at his own pace in a relaxed setting without competing with others in the class. It also allows students to make mistakes and to practice skills in private.

At home • Lots of students have computers; use them to chat, visit social media, watching videos. • Most students have DVD players and TVs•Some students have Tablets, smart phones.

I observed that :

At school:•No students bring laptops to school.•No students bring •electronic dictionaries•Some students use Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to create essays, and slideshow presentations

Not all students or teachers have good internet or computer access. Teachers do not have computers in classes Students may not have access to computers outside class Students' access to computers may be limited to computer labs or LRC.

What difficulties do you face in using technology in Habib school?

Teachers’ viewpoints were as listed : Network : weak. Smart board is new in Habib School.

Extra periods. Time :many different activities to do so there is no spare time to prepare lesson by using technology.

The LRC is always occupied and we can’t or hardly can get chances to use it.

We don’t have enough time to prepare a lesson using technology. Some students have negative attitude towards the subject.

No space provided crowdedness. Large numbers of students in each class.

Computers are’nt enough to suit the numbers of students. No useful training.

no DVDs available. Teachers are busy all time.

I face some difficulties especially using computer/ PowerPoint / smart board Absence of electronic materials.

Absence of training dealing with how to use technology in ELT.

Use of computer technical, some problems in management .

Problems in internet connection.

Let’s see some examples we’ve Already created in Habib School

Alphabet song : using flash modifying listening activity to video to help students understand it

Biff and coconut : using PowerPointModifying reading activity to attract students to read and understand the story

Grade_9_A_Listening_1_.5 : using quiz creator to help students listen at home and improve listening – this project was available at LRC for my students

Role play in class during the period :using mobile phone to record it

who wins competition : using hot potatoes , to encourage students using technology.

Using Smart mobile in teaching by creating application and share it with students.

• In general , 21st century teachers need to use technology effectively to prepare students for the information and communication age, that includes for learning a language .

• Refresher courses are needed for more complicated technologies

• Be active and creative in teaching by using PowerPoint & Websites effectively.

• Try to learn how to create interactive quizzes and publish them on the internet or vie e-mails to students.

• It is NOT about technology – it IS about interactivity!

• For Habib ’s Teachers , 5 teachers need intensive course in Microsoft Office Word to create printed materials such as short tests and exams.

• 3 teachers need long course in Microsoft Office Power point to learn how to use it and create presentations.

• 9 teachers need a course in creating interactive quizzes ,I see Quiz Creator is the most important one.
