HISTORY

At the beginning of the Bronze Age, the Viet tribe groups had settled down in the North and in the north of Central Vietnam. There were about 15 groups of Lac Viet tribesmen living mainly in the northern highland and delta and a dozen Au Viet groups of tribesmen living in Viet Bac, the northern region of old Vietnam

Between the 11th and 18th centuries, Vietnam expanded southward in a process known asnam tien southward expansion), and eventually conquered the kingdom of Champa and part of the Khmer Empire.

A South Vietnamese woman mourns over the body of her husband, found with 47 others in a mass grave near Hue, Vietnam, 1969.

At first, most Americans supported the war. By 1970, the PEACE MOVEMENT had support from all sections of society and no government could ignore it.

The first drum was invented more than three thousands years ago in northern Vietnam by the Lac Viet, the remote ancestors of the Vietnamese people. It played a vital role in the ancient society and was present in most important activities of Lac Viet civilization. Made for religious ceremonies, rallying men for war, or for other secular roles. The drum was decorated with rich and well composed images of objects, humans and animals.
