visual tracking of moving objects

What is tracking?2

Tracking is the problem of generating an inference about the motion of an object given a sequence of images.

Analogies of “tracking”

A spy “following” you A missile “targeting” a ship A detective “spotting” the suspects A typical scene of “chasing car” in a Hollywood

movie

Is this practical?

Yes, and it has many uses. For example,

1. Traffic (Intersections, Highways)

2. Sports Events (many cameras)

3. Surveillance (fixed cameras)

ConclusionBackground Modeling is very robust to different

noise factors and seems to be a reliable stepping stone for automatic layering. (Drawback: can be slow)

Object Segmentation becomes easier with a reliable background model.

Motion trajectories can be computed with any of the known parametric models for motion estimation.

Though we face few problems like grouping and occlusion while tracking an object by using some techniques we can overcome them .
