1. Recognize the Emergency and Check the Scene

3. Call the local Emergency Response Number

4. Check the victim and Give First Aid

5. Seek Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Scene check

Always check the scene before rushing in to help a

victim, look for any hazards such as:

» Smoke, flames

» Spilled chemicals, vapors

» Downed electrical wires

» Risk of explosion, building collapse

» Roadside dangers, high-speed traffic

» Potential personal violence

3. Call the local Emergency Response Number

Less than 10 seconds!

When to call

Always call your local emergency number when:

» The victim may have a life-threatening condition;

» The victim is unresponsive;

» The victim’s condition may become life

threatening;

» Moving the victim could make his or her

condition worse.

How to call

When giving an emergency call, do provide the

following information:

» Your name and phone number you

are using

» The location and number of victims

» What happened to the victims and

the circumstances

» Victim’s approximate age, condition

and sex

» What is being done for the victims

Victim Assessment

I. Check for immediate life-threatening conditions

II. Get the victim’s history if possible

III. Check the rest of the victim’s

body while waiting for ALS

IV. Monitor victim’s vital signs for

any changes
