WARIALDA PUBLIC SCHOOL – CONSTANTLY LOOKING FORWARD
This term we will create an additional maths group. Mrs Mead and
Mr Weightman will teach this group. This additional group will add
an extra layer and class of support to our mathematics students at
Warialda Public School. Mrs Mead will also be supporting students who have been identified by the Learning Support Team, as
those who will benefit from receiving extra help (especially in literacy).
We welcome back Mrs Amber Barnett who will return from maternity leave. Mrs Barnett will be teaching 5/6M for 1 day a
week until week 4 Term 4 when she will again take maternity leave. Mrs Mead will continue to teach 5/6M for the other 4 days
of the week.
We will be commencing our highly successful newspaper project this term. With help from our PBL leaders, we will produce a
school newspaper in Terms 3 and Term 4.
NAIDOC WEEK CELEBRATIONS
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of
Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of
Indigenous Australians.
NAIDOC celebration was held on Wednesday 25th June. Warialda Public and Warialda High Schools, organised a performance
by Gumaroy Newman for NAIDOC week. Gumaroy Newman is an indigenous cultural story teller, traditional song man and
yidaki (didgeridoo) master. Gumaroy and his fellow performers presented a fabulously funny and informative interactive
workshop/performance. The children were able to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and had an
opportunity to recognise the contribution that Indigenous Australians make to this country and society.

Rosie Mayne, Isabel Biddle, Emma Hall and Annabel Bundock have been
chosen to participate in a very selective Gifted and Talented program. The girls
recently attended an information camp at Thalgarrah Environmental Education
Centre where they met their mentors and other students participating in the
e-GATS program. The e-GATS program is an innovative online learning
experience for Gifted and Talented (GAT) students in years 4-7. Over the 10
week program our students will link to expert mentors and designers. They
work individually and in teams to complete challenging online tasks.
