Worcester V. Georgia• Who – Samuel Worchester fought for the Cherokee Indians • What – A Supreme Court Case• When - 1832• Where – State of Georgia• Why – Georgia did not recognize their sovereign status, but

saw them as tenants living on state land• Outcome – Chief Justice John Marshall ruled in favor of the

Indians, they could stay and did not have to move. Pres. Jackson said, “John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it.”

To become a state:o 5,000 men requirement who owned at

o Had to have 60,000 people

Physical Characteristics that influenced population distribution

• Pacific Ocean – allowed Asians to immigrate to California during the Gold Rush

• Gold – Population increased as settlers looked for gold

• Rocky Mountains – barrier between East and West. Led to Gadsden Purchase that enabled a railroad to be built.
