BT WANT O2 BACKTelefonica has confirmed
it is in ‘high-level’ talks
with BT, with the fixed-
line and broadband play-
er saying it is in discus-
sions with two mobile
operators about acquir-
ing their mobile business.
Earlier reports had stated
that BT and O2 were in
advanced negotiations
with BT over the sale of
O2 that would see the
Spanish operator gain a
20 per cent stake in the
fixed-line and broadband
giant.

26th - 2nd December 20142
Dear ReadersI would like to firstly say "Thank you" to all of the
readers and business clients who came along
to see us at the news desk in the Indoor Market
for our birthday event last week. I was very sur-
prised at how many people popped by. It was
also great to see the ladies from the other local
newspapers and media companies (who we are
always pleased to see and chat with), I think it
was the free cup cakes and bubbly that got
them to drop by... anyway it was a great day
and very successful for our partners at
TELITEC, who opened their shop and contact
centre with us on the same day.
For any readers who need advice and informa-
tion for Internet, British and Norwegian TV sys-
tems and phone services both land line and
mobile, then please pop in any time to see us at
the Indoor Market aisle 6. For all Christmas gifts
(mobiles, tablets & Internet gadgets) purchased
from us, we will offer a free gift wrapping serv-
ice.
The emphasis for the Weekly Buzz is all about
Christmas and for this week and each week
until the festivities start. Why not take a look
around the Indoor Market and get some great
Christmas gifts ideas, you can even order your
Christmas Turkey, buy sweets and Christmas
cards, all under one roof. The Indoor Market
has so much to offer... you can also choose
from a number of cafe bars, and relax with a
smooth tasting coffee, or a glass of beer!!
As it is just less than four weeks before
Christmas Eve, the shopping days are actually
dwindling faster than we realise. We have lots
of Christmas ideas and bargains, as well as
some great cooking ideas and recipes making
your Christmas in Spain even more exciting
plus information on the local events and enter-
tainment for the festive period.
If you know of any upcoming event, or have
any news, please tell us at the Weekly Buzz
news desk based in the Indoor Market
Benidorm, or simply email or call us

From Front Page... According
to a report on Spanish website El
Confidencial, Britain’s BT Group
could offer at least €6 billion to
Spanish peer Telefonica on top of a
20 per cent stake in its share capital
for the O2 mobile network. Including
the €6 billion, the total value of the
deal would be around €14 billion,
less than the £18 billion Telefonica
paid to buy O2 in 2005. Initially BT
and Telefonica declined to comment
on the speculation, however
Telefonica have now spoken about
the rumours, although BT still have
made no comment.
“Telefonica states that although con-
versations with British Telecom are
taking place, these are at a highly
preliminary stage and there can be
no certainty that any transaction may
occur with such company,” said the
statement. “A further announcement
will be made if and when appropri-
ate.”
BT confirmed the talks and said it
had been approached by O2 and
another operator about acquiring
their mobile business. Orange chief
executive
o f f i c e r
Stephane
R i c h a r d
said last
week that
the current
ownership

w h e r e

own half
the busi-
ness each,
was “unsustainable”.
The deal would give Telefonica a
foothold in the fixed-line, broadband
and TV markets while BT, which
recently signed an MVNO agreement
with EE, would acquire a mobile cus-
tomer base of more than 24 million.
BT, which also owns a slice of 4G
spectrum, is expected to launch its
consumer mobile offering in the first
half of next year. It will be the first
time it has offered the service since
selling BT Cellnet to Telefonica in
2005 in a deal with £18 billion.
O2 exited the fixed-line and broad-
band market in May 2013 through
the sale of its 500,000 strong cus-
tomer base to Sky for £200 million.
However, since then EE has added a
set-top box service to its mobile,
fixed-line and broadband offering
and Vodafone announced earlier this
month it was re-entering the con-
sumer broadband market it left in
2011. Virgin Media also offers TV,
broadband, fixed-line and mobile
services to its customer base.
That leaves O2 and Three as the
only two mobile operators who cur-
rently focus solely on their core busi-
ness.
There has been no comment from
BT or O2 on the matter with a
spokesperson for the mobile opera-
tor saying they “do not comment on
rumour or speculation”.

neW police station
needed For BenidorMAn announcement was made at the meet-
ing of the Madrid’s governments sub dele-
gate to Alicante Alberto Martinez, the
provincial Police Commissioner Jose
Javier Cuasante and Benidorm’s Mayor
Agustin Navarro, that a new National
Police Headquarters is needed in
Benidorm.
The location will be decided upon in the
next few days by the Ministry of the
Interior. The Town Hall has suggested
three different municipal land plots close
to the Palacio de Justicia Law Courts.
Navarro said “as happens with all admin-
istrations there is an allocation for non-
specific projects, that could be used if the
government is willing”. He went on the say
“having waited so long for the police sta-
tion, the important thing is to do things
properly. If there are no 2015 funds, it will
have to be in 2016 but now that things are
all tied up it won’t be a problem”.
survey reveals sexual
activities at airportsPassengers travelling to Spanish
Airports including Alicante Airport, com-
pleted JetCost surveys online, 32% were
ecstatic at the thought of going on holi-
day, 10% revealed that they had sexual
relations whilst at the airport, VIP lounge
toilets being favourite place, 27% found
it more exciting at the thought of being
caught, which apparently happened
12% of the time.
Passengers generally get to the airport 4
hours early to enjoy the various facilities,
shopping, eating, and drinking.
paternity leave
extension rejectedThe Government has decided against
extending paid paternity leave from two
weeks to four, because of a lack of funds.
The change was proposed in a private
members bill in August by Lourdes Ciuro,
an MP for Catalunya’s CiU separatist
party, but was rejected by the Minister for
Health, Social Services and Equality, Ana
Mato.
Although Mato said it would cost the state
€245 million a year, Ciuro countered that
the money could be sourced from
unclaimed maternity and paternity bene-
fits from 2013 while pointing out that just
0,057% of the social security budget
would pay for the extension.
Mato said: “The government has made
the utmost effort over the last three years
to overcome the terrible economic situa-
tion that we find ourselves in. Men receive
just 15 days paid leave in Spain while
women can take up to 112, which makes
Spain 8th in the EU paternity rankings.
526th - 2nd December 2014 News
WaYne PUtS on another biG ShoW More than 100 of the local children of EMAUS came
along on Saturday 22nd to the Showboat in Benidorm for
their annual Christmas event something special for the
children that is probably the best day of the year and that
they can look forward to all year. The children in care at
EMAUS have been abandoned or orphaned and
others that are handicapped or taken away
from their parents for protection. In all
cases the circumstances are very sad
and most of us do not see how much
these children have to rely on charity
and on the very kind careers who
work voluntarily in most cases.
Christmas is a time for everyone to
enjoy and help each other, the huge
efforts from Wayne and his team to
make this day special for the children are
really amazing. The fund raising started
weeks ago with many local bars and businesses
collecting gifts and donations. Each child receives a
Christmas stocking filled with gifts as well as 10€ in a
card. The day at the Showboat is Wayne's favourite day
of the year and, together with his helpers the staff of the
showboat, he really does put on a show and a wonderful
Christmas lunch for everyone. General Manager Javi
who is Father Christmas, hands out the Christmas
Stockings and the staff entertain the children for the
afternoon. Many of the fund raisers were present, as well
as the founder of EMAUS together with the directors and
management.
I was able to talk to most of them, as well as keeping
Wayne away from his duties as a Christmas Tree, and
Paul (the owner of Foleys bar in the Rincon) who were
both able to spend the time to explain to me how they
had been able once again to provide the funds to make
such a difference to the lives of the children. Paul
explained how the holidaymakers and residents have
donated money and gifts. Paul has been working with
Wayne organising and collecting from all of the wonderful
fundraisers. Wayne also explained how they have man-
aged to buy each home a turkey, to be delivered for
Christmas, and also the team has 900€ left to pay
towards the purchase of much needed new bedding
items for each child. The fundraising will continue until
the funds are enough to buy all of the bedding that is
needed. Paul has organised another fund raising
event for this coming week - a charity golf day
with the Benidorm Golf Society that takes
place at the Villaitana Golf resort, where
people can enjoy the day with events
including a raffle and nearest the pin, to
help raise much needed money for the
bedding.
There are many other kind people who have
helped and these people know who they are
and how much they are
appreciated by all of the
staff at EMAUS and all of the
organisers of the charity. I had the
pleasure of meeting Val, one of
the many helpers. Val who is
famous for her baking skills had
the task of providing over 100
cup cakes for the Children's
Christmas party.
The question is to our readers is:
how could you help to raise the
much needed money for the
new bedding fund? If you could
help by making a small donation
or perhaps a fund raising event
even a raffle for Christmas! Every little helps and Wayne,
Paul and the other many fund raisers would love to hear
from you if you could help. Please contact them directly
either by phone or email Elisabeth 649428666 elisa-
beth@emausong.es.
For many years the Fab Four fund raisers Anne, Pam,
Tad (owner of the Yorkshire Pride Pubs) and Stewie
(owner from the Geordie Bar Tat) have been the hub of
the fund raising and have given up an amazing amount
of their time to organise so much for the local Children's
homes. The event held earlier this year raised a stagger-
ing €11,500.00, although the massive efforts and results
have been truly amazing the Fab Four can only do so
much between them. The additional fund raising efforts
from the team centred around Wayne and Paul have
made such a difference and with more and more help the
charity can actually keep the children supplied with all of
the essential items, as well as making the extra differ-
ence for special events such as this years Christmas
party.
The Weekly Buzz newspaper would also like to offer our
help and will be organising a Christmas Raffle at our
news desk at the Indoor Market aisle 6. The Fab Four,
Anne, Pam, Tad & Stewie have joined up with us at the
Weekly Buzz to help rally around for the
donation of raffle
prizes and also
with the sale of
the tickets. The
raffle will be held
on Friday 19th
December at
1pm - everyone
who attends will
receive a winter
chocolate muffin
and a glass of
mulled wine.
Donations for the
raffle are very much
needed, so please, if you can come along and donate a
prize (large or small) any type of Christmas gifts, food or
drink items are welcomed so we can make up a hamper.
In fact anything at all that can be raffled. So with many
thanks in advance for your continued help and support,
we hope to see you very soon at the Weekly Buzz news
desk in the Indoor Market, Benidorm.
Yamilka González y Pablo López were

Reports from local health centres and clin-
ics show an increasing number of adults
and children experiencing very unpleas-
ant flu-like symptoms with the additional
effects of stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
The virus is prolific throughout the Costa
Blanca and has spread very fast.
It is likely to start amongst school pupils
and then spread back to their homes and
families. This type of virus can make you
very ill and normally takes between a few
days, and up to a week to recover. Health
workers said that it is common for this
type of virus to appear one month after the
school term starts and gradually spread,
before becoming a widespread problem,
with much higher reported numbers all
across the region. It is recommended that
frequent hand washing and extra attention
to kitchen cleanliness and food prepara-
tion areas is observed.
Calls to the benefit fraud hotline in Spain have doubled
since the British Government launched a major advertis-
ing campaign during the last week of October to encour-
age the public to call the hotline if they suspect benefit
fraud, and to urge claimants to report changes in their cir-
cumstances.
The Department for Work and Pensions’ (DWP) benefit
fraud hotline in Spain – 900 55 44 40 – has seen a surge
in vital tip-offs that fraud investigators are now pursuing
to verify if people are claiming benefits illegally.
Awareness of the campaign and associated media cov-
erage among expatriates in Spain, and their willingness
to call the hotline, is helping investigators to reduce the
waste of honest taxpayers’ money on fraudsters.
Work and Pensions Minister Mark Harper said:
“Hard working taxpayers have had enough of fraudsters
taking money which is meant for genuine claimants,
which is why we’re seeing so many people taking action
by calling the hotline. We know it’s a small minority who
commit benefit fraud but I would urge anyone who has
suspicions to call the free and confidential number or
report them anonymously online.”
Worldwide, someone is reported to benefit fraud hotlines
every minute of every working day on average, and in the
last year alone nearly 60,000 fraud investigations have
been launched.
The Government has recovered nearly one billion
pounds of wrongly paid benefits in the last year, and has
introduced a raft of measures to crack down on people
who cheat the system - both abroad and in the UK –
including:
• Tough new rules so that 40% of individuals’ ben-
efits can be taken to repay stolen cash - on top of any
fine or custodial sentence handed out by the courts;
• Increased penalties from £2,000 to £5,000,
without taking a fraudster to court;
• A new £50 civil penalty for claimants who neg-
ligently give incorrect information on their claims or fail to
report a change in circumstances which results in over-
payments.
If you suspect a benefit cheat, call the confidential hotline
on 900 55 44 40 - open from 8am to 4pm every weekday
in Spain - or report them online at www.dwp.gov.uk/ben-
efit-thieves-spain.

Pharmacies around, then how about the
latest news from the Valencia Region of
another 62 new Pharmacies due to open,
of which 26 will be in the province of

said that the plans would allow the gov-

GETTING READY FOR A SPANISH CHRISTMASSpanish tradition has it that the Three
Kings, los Reyes Magos, are the ones
who on the morning of January 6th, bear
presents for all the children, repeating the
ritual they performed after baby Jesus
was born. Influenced by American films
and TV shows, some families have decid-
ed to switch to father
Christmas on 25th
Christmas Day, argu-
ing that this allows the
kids more time to play
with their toys.
Most Spanish people
keep their fingers
crossed for a
Christmas windfall,
courtesy of the world-
renowned lottery
draw, El Gordo, liter-
ally The Fat One. This
is a long, drawn-out event that unfolds on
the morning of December 22nd. Ticket
numbers in a giant drum are matched to
balls with millionaire prizes in a smaller
drum.
The ticketing system allows people to buy
fractions and subfractions of different
numbers, décimos and participaciones,
with increasing chances of a share in the
winnings.
As the top prizes come out, TV and radio
coverage centres on the search for the
many winners and for the particular lottery
shop where the winning ticket was bought.

A TASTE OF CHRISTMASIngredients
225g cold butter, diced350g plain flour
100g golden caster sugar280g mincemeat
1 small eggIcing sugar, to dust
*OPTIONAL CHOCOLATE CHIPS
MINCE PIES MADE EASYMethod
1. To make the pastry, rub 225g cold, diced butter into
350g plain flour, then mix in 100g golden caster sugar
and a pinch of salt. Combine the pastry into a ball –
don’t add liquid – and knead it briefly. The dough will be
fairly firm, like shortbread dough. You can use the
dough immediately, or chill for later.
2. Preheat the oven to 200C/gas 6/fan 180C. Line 18
holes of two 12-hole patty tins, by pressing small wal-
nut-sized balls of pastry into each hole. Spoon 280g
mincemeat into the pies.*OPTIONAL as a fun twist on
this traditional dessert which is great for
kids, why not and try substituting around
50g of mincemeat for 50g of Chocolate
Chips
3.Take slightly smaller balls of pastry
than before and pat them out between
your hands to make round lids, big
enough to cover the pies. Top the pies
with their lids, pressing the edges gently
together to seal – you don’t need to seal
them with milk or egg as they will stick on
their own. (The pies may now be frozen for up to 1
month).
4.Beat 1 small egg and brush the tops of the pies.
Bake for 20 minutes until golden. Leave to cool in the
tin for 5 minutes, then remove to a wire rack. To serve,
lightly dust with icing sugar. They will keep for 3 to 4

1. Using a fork, you toast the edges of the
pillowy marshmallow until they’re well
browned, leaving one side (The Top)
white.
2. When the marshmallows cool, the
inside implodes, creating the perfect con-
tainer for your favourite tipple. Baileys is a
number one choice but you can choose
anything! (Chocolate milk is great for the
kids)
3. Once you have poured in your drink of
choice, “shoot quick” as the marshmal-
lows can be fragile. Then to finish off
enjoy the remains of the your gooey home made shot glass, yum!
Other great drink choices include: Disaronno, Cointreau, Tia Maria, Dooleys and any funflavoured liquors. It is down to personal choice so whatever your favourite, give it a try!

A 21 million euro tourist attraction has
been proposed for a Cable Car. It is set to
take people up to enjoy the spectacular
views across the coast line with the oper-
ating station planned to be at La Cruz
Punta Llisera (also known as The Cross).
The initiative has been headed by a
Russian businessman who is seeking
other investors to join the funding. The
talks between the investors and the
Mayor, Agustin Navarro, have taken place
who is said to be impressed with the plans
and project idea. Also the Mayor has said
that the impact to the local environment
would be minimal and the benefits to the
city would be enormous. If the plans and
funds are approved then construction
works could start as early as next year.
CABLE CArs fOr BENIDOrM?Last week the city of Benidorm, launched
a competition for a new logo to represent
the City and the tourist department "Visit
Benidorm Foundation". The competition
has been launched online thereby, reach-
ing an international audience and it can
be entered by anybody anywhere around
the globe!
The brief is to redefine the image of the
city to focus on Benidorm as a beach des-
tination with the idea being 'Chic and
Cheap'.
Miss Leire Bilbao, manager of the founda-
tion, said that they are committed to a new
phase to strengthen the character of the
city as a leader of Spanish tourism. The
foundation has received huge criticism
from the designers association of Valencia
since the launch. A spokesperson stated
"the competition undermines the profes-
sion of designers, and that the correct pro-
cedure to undertake is to pay a selected
group of professional designers who
would then submit the proposals accord-
ing to the specifications laid out”.
Miss Bilbao speaking on behalf of the
tourism foundation, said that they under-
stood the comments made but did not
agree, the worldwide competition launch
via the web gives it an international
dimension.
The competition is already underway and
all entries must be recieved before the
end of February 2015. The winning
designer will take home €3,000, there will
be two runner up prizes of €600 and final
category for a new slogan, with a prize of
€1,500.

nEw TRAFFIC LIgHTSTraffic lights have been installed on the Moraira-Calp
(CV-746) road and at the exit from the Camí
Campamento with the aim of regulating traffic in said
area and improving accessibility.
The councillor, José Vicente Llobel, has explained that
the Town Council held several meetings with representa-
tives from the Regional Government and the Government
of Alicante, given that the road falls within their compe-
tence, aiming to find a solution, as during the summer
months this road endures high volumes of traffic, as does
the one in the area surrounding the Youth Hostel.
Finally, three latest generation traffic lights have been
installed to regulate the traffic at the three points, in order
to "improve the accessibility and safety of the pedestri-
ans", highlighted the councillor.
It is worth noting that this action is in addition to that
already carried out at the beginning of summer, when the
Regional Government performed a series of improve-
ments to the crossroads of the same road, where a
pedestrian crossing and a pavement were installed for
the purpose of improving pedestrian safety.
TEuLADA Town CounCIL REDuCES TAxES FoR 2015 The Mayor of Teulada, Antoni Joan Bertomeu and the
Tax councillor, Antonio Reig, have explained that the
Town Council will reduce the municipal taxes
(IBI, Vehicles, IAE and the occupancy of public space
levy) for the 2015 budgetary year after having adhered to
the Adjustment Plan and reduced the debt by 5 million
Euros over the past few years.
The first modification is in relation to the PROPERTY
TAX (IBI), for which the rate has been reduced by 12.4%,
from the current 0.78 to 0.68 per cent, which represents
a much lower property tax than those living in neighbour-
ing towns.
The Department of Culture of L'Alfas del Pi organized for
the eighth year Hahaha child Laughter Christmas festi-
val, in order to "give children the municipality an offer
quality entertainment for the next school holidays" .The
festival Hahaha that includes film, theater and dance,
will take place from Friday 26 December to Monday
January 5th.
The festival includes dance, with the company Titoyaya
Project, which presents the show "Moniquilla and the
thief of laughter," especially recommended for children
from 4 years. Tickets will cost 2 euros. "This is a very
complete festival, designed so that young children have
a Christmas without having to go out of town.
The festival is not over until the Three Kings depart on
Monday January 5, at 18:00, from the esplanade of the
house of culture, strolling through the city center to get
to the party tent, where Melchor, Gaspar and Baltasar
they distributed gifts to the children of the village.

Three clearly defined
areas have been set out
by the Mediterranean tour.
The areas with terraces,
pedestrian and bike
routes will be established
with the remodeling of the
layout. It is envisaged that
the works will be complet-
ed before Easter 2015.,
Representatives of the dif-
ferent restaurants and
bars in the area of the
Mediterranean tour have
had a meeting with the
mayors of the local area,
Yolanda Gallardo,
Sebastián Gómez, Vicent
Sanz, and Mayor, Pedro
Barber, with regard to the
implementation of the new
layout of the cycleway.
"In this second phase of
meetings with business-
men in the area,
explained Vicent Sanz, we
have presented the pro-
posal that presents costs
for your bike do not cross
between the terraces of
the bars and restaurants,
as it is the case at pres-
ent." "This solution is to
locate the bike path up the
side walk, with which the
terraces will again be uni-
fied, avoiding the crossing
of the waiters or cus-
tomers of them by rail bike
to gain entry to the restau-
rant or the bar",

MAIN AVENUE RENOVATION UNDERWAYWork has commenced on the renovation of the Avenue of
Villajoyosa. The work is being undertaken by the compa-
ny Ecisa. Funded by the council the budget for the reno-
vations is set at 686,070 euros. The Department of Traffic
and Transportation has announced that the work will take
around two months.
This main artery to the town will be closed to traffic with
diversions to get around the area. Councilman for Traffic,
Juan Seva, stated that neighbourhood associations of
Playa Blanca, Serra Grossa, Cabo de las Huertas and La
Sangueta had been informed in advance and they
explained that residents can reach their homes through
different access points.
The renovation of the Avenue of Villajoyosa will include,
extending existing sidewalks in some parts of the narrow
street, and improving the accessibility of pedestrian
routes.

CHINA'S FAkE EvOqUESpArkS FUry
At first glance, the new car unveiled at a
motor show appeared to be an updated
model of the Range Rover Evoque.
With its signature body shape, lights and
radiator grille and silver logo across the
front edge of its bonnet, it was the spit-
ting image of the British bestseller.
But in fact, it was a brazen copy
of the hugely popular UK-
designed ‘baby’ off-roader – and
at a fraction of the price.
Little-known Chinese carmaker
LandWind launched its X7 at the
Guangzhou motor show in China
last week, and like all good fakes
it is a remarkably close approxi-
mation of the real thing, that goes
for a lot less money. In this case,
the Range Rover Evoque, sells
for around 40,000 pounds, while
the Chinese version will retail for
a meager 14,000 quid.
The British manufacturer has just
opened its first car factory in
China in a venture with local firm
Chery. Jaguar Land Rover chief
executive Dr Ralf Speth told
Autocar magazine: “The fact that
this kind of copying is ongoing in
China is very disappointing. The
intellectual property (IP) is owned
by Jaguar Land Rover and if you
break that IP then you are in
breach of international regula-
tions.”
But drivers looking for a fashionable car
at a bargain price might want to wait for
safety inspection results. LandWind’s
earlier CV9 people-carrier scored just two
stars out of five in European crash tests
in 2010.

The MABS centre was buzzing on Saturday 22nd
November with over 100 people arriving to see the
Autumn/Winter fashion show. There was amazement
on the audiences faces at the array of different outfits
being modelled ranging from sizes 10 – 18. There
was something for all ages from the tiniest denim skirt
to a gorgeous very low backed slinky evening dress.
An added addition to the show were the 2 brave male
models who escorted the ladies arm in arm along the
catwalk with such professionalism.
Organiser of the event, Angie Taylor, was over-
whelmed by the success of the show and said it was
more than she could have hoped for. Thanks go to
everyone who helped to make the day a success and
to those who supported the event in such hard times.

Last Thursday streams of people visited
the Indoor Market for the dual opening of
the new Telitec shop together with the
Weekly Buzz news desk.
The recent advertising for the event
proved to be a winner, with people arriv-
ing to claim their free mobile phone and
find out more about the products on offer.
Jan Edmonson, the chief executive of
Telitec, said "we were pleasantly sur-
prised at the number of people who
turned up and the response we had to
the special offers and promotions on offer
as part of the opening at the Indoor
Market".
The owner of the Weekly Buzz newspa-
per Marco Baiardo, said "we are delight-
ed to be partnered with Telitec as part of
our project to promote the best business-
es to the public in the North Costa
Blanca".
The special offers and promotions are
available until Christmas Eve, with dis-
counted prices for Internet products,
British TV and mobile phones. You can
go along for a demonstration and see the
products perform in front of your eyes,
before you buy!!
Many people have suffered the pain of
slow or no internet, and with so many
expats relying on contact with their loved
ones by phone and via the Internet, this
can affect their daily life.
The retired expats who have time to relax
and keep in touch with their children and
grandchildren back in the UK, and also
many Norwegian, Dutch and German
residents have an enormous problem
with home internet connections, especial-
ly if they want to save money using VOIP
(voice over the Internet). These people
rely on a stable and fast connection.
Telitec have developed a wide coverage
of wireless transmitters, so a landline is
not necessary to get Internet to your
home or business. The network is contin-
uing to expand across many new areas
in the Costa Blanca, and will soon be
available to almost all towns.
Other internet devices are also available
to buy "over the counter" in the shop, so
you can literally take away a "ready to
use" internet connection. Once you have
made your purchase, you can go home
and immediately connect to the world.
For business users there is now a brand
new device that allows a fast 4G connec-
tion via a plug in router, with no installa-
tion arrangements or dish, and no phone
line required. 4G high speed internet is
ideal for multi users, connected wireless
or with ethernet cables. This device is
unique and is available now to buy from
the Indoor Market shop. For a free home
or business demonstration simply call the
Weekly Buzz sales office on 965 020 250

Real estate and the growth of the construction
industry are the main factors in the continued
efforts to stabilise Spain's economy for the
coming year. Due to the improvement in
financing, the increase of mortgage offers and
a return of foreign investment, the economy
for 2015 should continue to see stable
growth, likely to be more than the 2% predict-
ed by the Spanish government.
According to a recent report from Arcano
(independent financial advisors), the reason
for the increase and positive outlook is the
fact that there is a reactivation of the con-
struction of new homes. It said that Spain will
see property prices increase and
then stabilise during 2015. The
real estate sector will once again
be leading the Spanish econo-
my.
The report also shows a flow of
new credit from banks and other
lenders for small and medium
size businesses, not just individ-
uals. Home sales in Spain have
seen a record number of completions during
the third quarter (July, August and September)
~ and finally the news from Denmark's Saxo
Bank, who are of the opinion that the property
market in Spain has bottomed out and is at its
lowest point.
HOUSING GROWTH SPEEDS
SPAINS ECONOMY
HOW CAN YOU FINANCE A
PROPERTY IN SPAIN?There are a variety of ways that you can pay
for a property in Spain. Aside from paying
cash, you can fund a property through a
variety of loan options. Which option you
choose is something you should consider
before you start to look for a property or
select an estate agent to assist you in your
purchase. Also, it is wise to consider your
finances and have any mortgage you may
have applied for ready in principle. You may
consider either a UK mortgage or search for
one from a Spanish mortgage broker.
In Spain, your options for home loans, par-
ticularly as a non-resident owner, are unlike-
ly to be as extensive as those on offer if buy-
ing in the UK, or wherever your native coun-
try is. Spanish banks have been hit harder
by the financial crisis of recent years than
banks in the UK other parts of the world, and
as a result lending conditions have become
more stringent, although interest rates
remain low.
If you decide to buy a repossessed property,
either a new-build that a developer defaulted
on or a property formerly owned privately,
you are likely to be offered very attractive
finance options by the bank selling it.
Remember, you won’t be able to transfer the
bank’s finance terms to another property not
owned by that bank. Buying a bank repos-
session this way will suit some buyers, typi-
cally investors, but be careful you are fully
aware of the terms of the finance and be
certain you will be able to keep up repay-
ments.
Of course, your monthly mortgage repay-
ment is another important figure to consider
when looking at the cost of maintaining your
property. Choosing the wrong mortgage
could lead to difficulties and it’s very impor-
tant not to stretch yourself financially. If
you’d like to be put in touch with a recom-
mended overseas mortgage broker.

The hardest part of buying a home in
Spain is probably choosing the property
that had the best physical features that
have been examined in detail. Taking your
time when looking around so you can
compare the different possibilities that the
market has to offer. Examine the physical
features of the property in detail to make
sure that there are no problems that would
later come to light.
Estate agents make up an important fac-
tor when finding the right home because
the agent should provide you with the dif-
ferent possibilities that suit your budget
and requirements.
Examine the property's physical features,
take time to look over the property your-
self. Check the condition of its installed
equipment and it's general upkeep, the
amount of light it gets, the views and the
neighbourhood. Taking notice of the noise
levels day and night and meeting the
neighbours. If anything seems wrong then
do not hesitate to bring this to the atten-
tion of the Estate Agent and to hear their
explanations and then make a decision to
employ a professional such as an archi-
tect or surveyor to make a report on your
behalf.
Installed equipment should have service
records and maintenance schedules, also
taking copies of the utility bills so that you
can examine the usual costs and calculate
the total running costs of the property.
For new build property the seller should
provide you with the general plans, floor
space and the general description.
Together with the description of the servic-
es (power, water, gas, heating systems,
warrantee and fire safety. The details of
the materials used in the build should
also be made available with full informa-
tion of the insulation of sound and heat. If
the property is a flat or as part of a com-
munity area the annual costs should be
declared as well as the details of the com-
munity association agreement.
FINdING ThE RIGhT
homE IN SpAINYou may not be aware that from 1st June
2013, a new Energy Efficiency Law for
properties came into force. This now
means that any properties sold or rented
after this date will be required to have a
Certificate confirming the energy efficien-
cy of the home. This Certificate is valid
for 10 years.
This procedure is already in force in the
UK and many other European Countries
and the European Parliament is now
insisting that Spain conforms.
It is now a legal requirement for all prop-
erties sold or rented and indeed applies
to holiday rental properties that have
rentals of 16 weeks per year or more.
The Certificate must be issued by a
Certified Technician or Architect who will
visit the property and test the heating,
refrigeration, hot water and lighting to
ascertain the amount of energy con-
sumed when these items are used. In
addition, the Co2 emissions of a home
must also be listed. There is no obliga-
tion for any Owner to make alterations or
upgrades to the property but the law
does state that the Architect must advise
an Owner how the grading may be
raised.
PMR can help you arrange for your
Certificate to be done without delay.

enjoyed the Sangria!
“A Hidden Gem”Reviewed 21 September 2014Found this little place totally by accident when out walking in
Benidorm, what a suprise. the total opposite of anything i had
expected to find. The owners are very friendly, the food is fan-

“Nice little place with a great sea view”Reviewed 3 September 2014This is a nice little bar that serves good British food at the end

The view over the Mediterranean is what makes me ray there

“Best Sunday Roast in Town”Reviewed 26 August 2014I was told about this Restaurant and had dismissed it. What a
mistake. The restaurant is situated half way up a hill with a
beautiful view of the bay and Peacock Island. It is a small fam-
ily restaurant and booking is sometimes necessary. My wife
and I had the Chicken Sunday Roast. What a lovely surprise
when the dinner came out and the Chicken had been sliced off
a chicken as opposed to pre sliced chicken. The veg was
beautiful, with roast Parsnips, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Broccoli
and Peas. Mashed potatoes along with roast potatoes and
your own gravy pot. A beautiful meal priced at just €7.50.
Superb value. Needless to say we cleared our plates and fin-
ished off with apple pie and custard. There are many other
dishes on the menu which I hope to sample in the near future.
Lovely.

Crunchy batter and homemade chips. Tracy and her chef went

“Brilliant”Reviewed 30 October 2014
Dined at Bistro Amics a number of times, food is absolutely
amazing, lovely wine menu. Service was excellent and Tracey
and her team were so welcoming.
“On our list of places to go regularly”Reviewed 15 April 2014
Absolutely stunned. This is a new restaurant in Albir (situated
where Biblos used to be) and we decided to give it a try. The
best chipirones I have ever tasted and the pork was tender
and juicy.
The sauces were to die for and were not as heavy as they are
in some places. The service was good. The staff were very
friendly and the location is right next to the central (free) car
park. For the two of us: 3 courses each, 2 glasses of wine
each and coffee came to 59 euros. Well worth it. We'll be
back!

Altea is an old fishing village which has expand-
ed to become a pleasant resort on the Costa
Blanca.
The hill-top town of Altea has lovely white-
washed houses and is full of the palm trees and
bougainvillea that make these Spanish towns
so attractive. The town is relatively unspoilt
considering the tourist development that has
gone on around it. The church is particularly
attractive with its blue dome.
Down below by the pebbled beach is the tourist
resort of Altea, a mixture of tourist apartments
and fisherman's cottages. Whilst not a sandy
beach the coastline here is attractive and the
historic town above is an added treat.
The most beautiful building in Altea is its
church, the Nuestra Senora del Consuelo (Our
Lady of Sorrow) with a stunning blue and white
domed roof.
The old town is a maze of narrow, cobbled
streets, often with a glimpse of the bright blue
sea of the harbour below.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants along
the sea-front but make sure you dine in the old
town at least once during your visit. In the
evening the outdoor cafes fill up, the air is
warm, there is a view of the sea below and eat-
ing al-fresco is very pleasant.
Most of the action takes place down in the har-
bour area. Here you will find lots of restaurants
and bars and Altea's beaches. The beaches are
pebbly rather than sandy but offer a good range
of water sports. The coastline is very attractive
as there are plenty of nice rocky coves to
explore.
If you have the chance to visit during the festi-
val of San Lorenzo in mid August you will be
able to see a spectacular firework display with

deadly enterovirusd68 Found in norway
Cases of the potentially deadly enterovirus
d68 has been found in norway, it was
revealed on tuesday.
The virus, which can cause paralysis and is
without cure, and there is no cure, has been
found in a few cases affecting Norwegians,
informed the Norwegian Institute of Public
Health (Nasjonalt Folkehelseinstitutt - FHI).
Senior physician of the Division of Infectious
Disease Control at FHI, Trude Arnesen, said to
NTB: "Enteroviruses are spread from excre-
ment via hands to food, and also by coughing.
Good hand and coughing hygiene will reduce
the chance of infection.”
“This is not a Polio virus and Norway is still free
of Polio,” she added.
Enterovirus D68 is the most common cause of
less severe forms of encephalitis and meningi-
tis. The virus may also result in pulmonary
infections and, more seldom, neurological
symptoms like palsies.
The virus is usually found in children and
young people with mild symptoms that include
fever, pulmonary infection symptoms and body
aches. On rare occassions, it can result in
more serious symptoms, like pulmonary and
neurological symptoms.
There is no curative treatment beside treating
the symptoms. Preventive measures are good
hand and coughing hygiene. FHI reports that
there is no vaccine.

million kroner ($367,000) after being found guilty
of serious embezzlement through a fortune teller
company.
The men where charged for fraudulently invoic-
ing 15 million kroner ($2.2 million) and for scam-
ming the Norwegian government of 2.9 million
kroner ($450,000) in false VAT deductions,
reported Østlands-Posten.
Two of the men were from Vestfold in South-
East Norway were sentenced to two-and-a-half
years in prison and three years in prison respec-
tively. A third man from Akershus was also been

ARIES (March 21st-April 20th)
Is your current plan of action over your career zone taking you in the right direc-
tion? If not, you don’t have to abandon ship all together. You just need to modify
your approach and stop taking comments personally. You get excellent results
from practical efforts.
TAURUS (April 21st-May 21st)
There’s a co-operative atmosphere developing at home, making it your favourite
place to be this week. There’s renewed warmth in your love life, relationships
and friendships, and since that’s what makes you happiest, you’ll have a big
smile on your face the whole week.
GEMINI (May 22nd-June 21st)
Be prepared to deal with unexpected personal setbacks and to approach life as
steadily as you can. Don’t get involved in too many new ventures or you’ll
spread yourself too thinly and will feel dissatisfied with all of them. Christmas is
coming so get ready.
CANCER (June 22nd-July 23rd)
Work is trundling along nicely as are money matters, but its time to step up the
efforts in the love zone as romance and passion feature in a big way this week.
You’ve got what it takes to attract a whole load of compliments. Accept gracious-
ly and don’t hide away. Enjoy.
LEO (July 24th-August 23rd)
If you’re finding everyone pushy or difficult, it may be worth taking a step back
and having a look at your own life and lifestyle choices, before you start criticis-
ing them. Downsize your responsibilities if possible and start focusing on part-
ners, children and family.
VIRGO (August 24th-September 23rd)
If you keep going over the ins and outs of relationships at home, especially when
there’s nothing wrong, your obsessive behaviour may be the last straw for part-
ners, and things could hit the skids. Try to minimise conflict by seeing the other
persons point of view.
LIBRA (September 24th-October 23rd)
One to one friendships get a lift this week, so its worth focusing your efforts on
securing and maintaining positive relationships. It may be hard to bring certain
others round to your way of thinking, but use your persuasive charm to convince
them you know best.
SCORPIO (October 24th-November 22nd)
You have plenty of scope to be both critical and open minded this week, a formi-
dable combination when it comes to being ahead of the game. Stand by deci-
sions you make this week or others will see you as weak and insecure. Social
trends look positive so go with the flow.
SAGITTARIUS (November 23rd-December 21st)
You’re one of the few signs that can get away with acting on impulse and things
working out all right for you, so don’t be afraid to stick out your neck and take a
chance this week be it at work or in a social situation. An entertaining weekend
for socialising.
CAPRICORN (December 22nd-January 20th)
Don’t allow specific issues to become obsessions this week. Your sign is denot-
ed by the goat, a grazer that never stays in the one place for too long. Sound
familiar? Look at concerns and worries, sort them out as best you can, and
move onto the next issue. Done!
AQUARIUS (January 21st-February 19th)
Your popularity is off the charts these days and you’re starting to wonder if you
have a secret aura you don’t realise you’re giving off. I’d enjoy the ride if I were
you. You’re happy to take the lead in many things. Maybe that’s what others find
attractive about you.
PISCES (February 20th-March 20th)
The accent is now on your romantic life, and what you can do to get the fire and
passion back on track. Taking time to listen is always a good port of call, so
make time to really discuss plans for the future with partners. You need to make
sure you’re still on the same page.

AlFAZ DoG HomECloSED By Gill Brookshaw
In another local town Alfaz del Pi, the local dogpound has been forced to close at the order ofthe Mayor. Dogs were suffering in there andwere being killed because the pound was full. Itwas a horrific place to visit and we do need tomove forward with finding a way to run a dogpound in this town successfully. The problem now is that we have a large num-ber and we are talking over 100! Dogs and ontop of that cats....to find urgent new homes forto keep them safe from the gas chamber thatwill kill them. The options are limited. Kind people who willtake one or two. Then there is Benidorm DogPound! This last week we have seen an explosion ofdogs dumped with us, dogs whose hearts arebroken after being left in the pound knowingthat love is lost. Where we used to have 2 dogsin a cage we now have 5 and it is only going toget worse as we try to help out the dogs on theverge of death from Alfaz pound. The problems are many with taking in thisamount. Dogs will be crammed into cages far tosmall for 5 at a time. We won't get to see thedogs easily and spot the ill ones so that we canhelp them. Living in cramped conditions turnsthem into packs, meaning they are harder tosocialise. So many in a pen and too few volun-teers means we cant get them out for a walk. This is getting desperate and we need yourhelp now and you can do this in many ways.Turn up and walk the dogs. Many of you arenow here for a few months and just 2-3 hours ofyour time is invaluable for our dogs.Donations are vital as we now will have moreemergency trips to the vets for treatment as thedogs become less socialised and more unhap-py towards each other. We need building mate-rials to help section off alarge plot of land intosmaller sections so wecan get dogs out of theirpens and into an areathey can run the volun-teers will do the buildingwork we just need thetools. Here is a way you canhelp us and spread theword and get donationsin.....buy a t-shirt!30 ordered and over 365dollars raised BUTONLY IF we get 40ordered.

ColD SymptomS in KittEnS
Colds are common in kittens because these little guys have developing immune sys-
tems and aren't as able to fight off infection as well as their adult counterparts. These
colds are due to upper respiratory infections caused by either virus or bacterial infec-
tion.
Sneezing Kitties
A little kitten with an upper respiratory infection has symptoms similar to colds in people.
You'll notice that he sneezes and coughs frequently. He may also have a runny nose
and watery eyes. In some cases, the little one will develop a fever, become less active
and lethargic and may eat less than usual. While colds are an annoyance for older kit-
ties, in kittens they can quickly become serious, leading to pneumonia, trouble breath-
ing or ulcers on the nose, mouth or eyes, according to the Mar Vista Animal Medical
Center. The simple loss of fluids caused by a runny nose in a tiny furry baby can also
result in dehydration.
What to Do?
Visit your veterinarian if you notice cold symptoms in your little kitty to properly diagnose
the condition. She'll be able to examine your furry friend and determine the cause of his
sneezy symptoms. In some cases, a virus could be to blame, while in others a bacterial
infection could be the cause. The two major causes of upper respiratory infections are
either the herpesvirus or calicivirus, both of which account for 80 to 90 percent of all
such infections, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals. While viruses can't be cured and may recur later in life, bacterial infections
can. These may occur as the primary or secondary cause of your little one's symptoms
and can be treated with antibiotics to rid your kitty of them.
What to Expect
Kitty colds last around four to 14 days, although they may last longer in little kittens --
up to three or four weeks,
according to the Cats
Exclusive Veterinary
Center. During this time,
your vet may want you to
administer an antibiotic or
antiviral medication orally
and may also give you eye
drops or nasal drops.
Drops help your little one
breathe more easily by
relieving his congestion or
may help soothe his red,
irritated eyes. Follow your
vet's instructions and bring
your little one in for regular
exams, especially if his
symptoms aren't improv-
ing.

It is a fact. Men avoid Doctors. Many willadmit that they will only visit a Doctor ifpressurized by the other half, in fact in oneAmerican study, 80% of men agreed thatwithout a little push from their partner theywould not see a Doctor.
It is this reluctance that means that menare much more likely to end up in hospitalwith problems such as pneumonia, heartfailure and complications from diabetes.Cancers in men are often diagnosed at apoint where treatment is less effective or
the disease is terminal. Suicide is also more common inmen as they are much less likely to consult a Doctor whenthey are feeling depressed.
Avoiding the Doctor may well be a learned behaviour thatmen inherit from their own Fathers, as well as the malenotion that complaining about pain or illness is somehowa sign of weakness.
Women on average live 5.1 years longer than men. Thefollowing statistics go someway to explaining this:
45% of men are overweight1/3 of men are clinicallyobese7/8 of men have atleast one risk factorfor heart disease orstrokesTwice as many menthan womendrink more thanthe recommend-ed safe limitsfor alcohol
25% of menhave high bloodpressure
If am a n
has aproblem of
a personalnature they
are even more reluctant to discuss it with a Doctor. Onestudy revealed that in such cases:
42 % have delayed seeing their Doctor47% are excruciatingly embarrassed when they do attend12% never seek medical attention for the problem.
So ladies, if you have ever been accused of nagging yourother half to seek medical attention, take no heed andkeep nagging, you may well be saving his life. It may alsobe a good idea to leave this article on your coffee table!

Betrayal New series. Powerful storytelling and dramatic reconstruction bring to life one of the most
bloody and violent chapters in British history as Dan Jones explores the lives of the Plantagenets, who
ruled England and much of France during the Middle Ages. The historian begins with Henry II - the first
king of the dynasty - a dashing and energetic warrior who transformed England from a violent and law-
less state into the heart of an empire that would become one of the greatest that Europe has ever seen.

jack wilshere is facing more time on the sidelines
after injuring his ankle during Saturday's defeat to
Manchester united. The Arsenal midfielder is to see
a specialist after a late challenge from united
defender Paddy McNair forced him off before the
end of the 2-1 defeat at the Emirates. wilshere will
be out "for a while", according to Arsene wenger,
who does at least have defender Laurent Koscielny
back in his squad for wednesday's Champions
League game against Borussia Dortmund.
Mohamed Diame could be fit for Hull's trip to
Manchester united on Saturday after scans cleared
him of serious injury.
The midfielder missed Sunday's home defeat to
Tottenham with a knee problem and was sent for fur-
ther investigation.Hull go to Old Trafford just a point
clear of the Premier League relegation places having
won only once since the opening weekend,
But Diame has been a hit since arriving from west

times in eight starts.

Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes is in a critical condi-
tion after being struck by a bouncer while batting.
The 25-year-old was hit by a Sean Abbott delivery while
batting for South Australia in a Sheffield Shield match
against New South Wales at the Sydney Cricket
Ground.
Hughes needed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the
boundary and was then taken to St Vincent's Hospital,
where he had surgery and remains in an intensive-care
unit.
David Faktor, a spokesman at St Vincent's Hospital,
said: "He arrived in a critical condition and remains in a
critical condition.
"When he arrived he underwent a set of scans to
establish the extent of his injuries and then a decision
was made to perform surgery. All I could confirm is that
he did sustain a head injury and that he is in a critical
condition at the moment."
South Australia's performance manager Tim Nielsen
said: "As you're aware Phil Hughes was injured today
and he's undergoing surgery.”
Hughes was 63 not out and wearing a helmet when he
tried to hook an Abbott bouncer and missed. He was
attempting to play his way into the Australia side for
next week's first Test against India.
Equipment manufacturers Masuri, who supplied the
helmet Hughes was wearing, issued a statement stating
it was seeking to view as much footage of the incident
as possible.

Tony Bellew may have only given his performance a
six out of 10 after beating Nathan Cleverly but he is
happy to take on champion Marco Huck next.
The 31-year-old won the WBO cruiserweight eliminator
showdown at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday
night on a split decision.
It means he is one of the top challengers to Huck, who
has equalled Johnny Nelson's cruiserweight world title
defence record of 13 and who could face face the Sky
Sports pundit next year.
But Bellew, who was only fighting as a cruiserweight for
the third time, is ready to take on the WBO champion in
his next fight. He believes it is now the biggest fight in the
division and is also one he can win. He said to media on
f fight night "I'm not being big-headed but I am a pretty big
draw in this division. I bring an awful lot of plusses to the
table and I do think every cruiserweight world champion
wants to fight me now.

ENGLAND CALL Up WALDROM
Exeter No 8 Thomas Waldrom has been
called into Stuart Lancaster’s 31-man
England squad for this weekend’s
clash with Australia.
Waldrom, who has been in superb form
for the Chiefs, scoring seven tries in eight
Aviva Premiership matches, replaces Billy
Vunipola who suffered concussion in
Saracens’ defeat to Northampton on
Sunday.
Stephen Myler, who kicked 16 points in
Saints’ victory, returns to the squad after
recovering from a hamstring injury and
Leicester lock Graham Kitchener is also
included. Second row Courtney Lawes
remains with the squad as he tried to
shake off a knee knock he suffered in a
bruising encounter with Samoa at
Twickenham on Saturday.
Vunipola was dropped for the 28-9 victory
over Samoa - Gloucester's Ben Morgan
started in his place - and was unlikely to
figure in the climax to the autumn against
the Wallabies.
"Billy will undergo the graduated return to
play protocol at his club," read a state-
ment released by England.
George Ford's fine full debut means he
will start against the Wallabies, leaving
Owen Farrell to battle it out with Billy
Twelvetrees for the number 12 jersey.
Forwards: Joe Marler, Matt Mullan, Kieran
Brookes, David Wilson, Dylan Hartley,
Rob Webber, Dave Attwood, Graham
Kitchener, George Kruis, Courtney Lawes,
Calum Clark, James Haskell, Ben
Morgan, Chris Robshaw,
Thomas Waldrom, Tom Wood
Backs: Lee Dickson, Richard
Wigglesworth, Ben Youngs, Brad Barritt,
Luther Burrell, Owen Farrell, George
Ford, Stephen Myler, Billy Twelvetrees,
Mike Brown, Alex Goode, Jonny May,
Jack Nowell, Anthony Watson, Marland
YardeSWITZERLAND MAKE
TENNIS HISTORYA Roger Federer masterclass helped Switzerland clinch their first Davis Cup title as the
17-time grand slam champion defeated Richard Gasquet to hand them an unassailable
3-1 lead over hosts France.
The 6-4 6-2 6-2 win helped
the 33-year-old Federer
secured the historic deci-
sive point and land the last
big prize in tennis missing
from his collection to raptur-
ous applause by both sets
of supporters in front of
another world record crowd
of 27,488 on the indoor
claycourt in Lille. Jo-Wilfried
Tsonga was initially set to
face the Swiss star but was
sidelined with an elbow
injury meaning Gasguet took his spot for France. But he was unable to cope with an
inspired Federer, who looked a back to his very best following a back injury which crip-
pled him at the ATP World Tour finals in London last weekend.
IT’S CRUNCH TIMEFOR ENGLAND
Before the QBE Internationals kicked
off Stuart Lancaster stated that
England had to win three of the four
internationals – not my words, not
some other journalists’ but those of the
England manager.
That is now impossible. As November
nears its end England face Australia, pool
rivals in next year’s World Cup with a
record of 1-2 going into the match.
Defeat from an English perspective does
not bear thinking about. The month when
Twickenham was supposed to be turned
into the fortress from which a confident
assault on the world could be launched
next year will be – in rugby terms – a
wreck should the Wallabies win.
This really is a significant game in the
coaching career of Lancaster and maybe
down the road we will look back on it and
agree it was indeed his most important
match to date. To win the World Cup, the
knowledge and confidence of how to beat
the big three is a prerequisite. Should
Australia win, Lancaster’s record would be
one win in three against them.
Twickenham or not, this is not the launch
pad for World Cup glory.
Saturday is a test of the management’s
ability to tweak a broadly structured game
plan into something flexible that George
Ford can get his hands and boot on and
turn it into a sorely needed win. Ford was
the best thing to come out of a poor per-
formance against Samoa, although he is a
long way from the messiah and the nine
out of 10 performance he was afforded in
the wake of the match.

HAMMY CROWNEDWORLD CHAMPION
Lewis Hamilton has joined
Formula 1’s illustrious ranks of
double World Champions after
race victory in the season-
deciding Abu Dhabi GP
emphatically clinched him the
2014 drivers’ title.
In a race in which he only
needed to finish second,
Hamilton pre-race promise to
“drive it like I stole it” translat-
ed in sensational fashion in
the opening seconds of the
race as an electric getaway
saw him vault past his polesit-
ting title rival Rosberg into the
lead well before Turn One.
Hamilton immediately set
about controlling proceedings
and his lead over Rosberg
was in excess of two seconds
before his team-mate’s
Mercedes developed a critical
ERS systems failure on lap 25
which effectively settled
their tense, com-
pelling season-
long battle for
supremacy in
the Briton’s
favour.
While battling
with the
mechanical issues
Rosberg contiued urging his
race engineer over the radio to
try and get him to the flag in
the fifth place he needed to
win the title should Hamilton
run into terminal trouble,
Rosberg’s woes only got
worse amid increasingly termi-
nal brake wear and he eventu-
ally slipped all the way to 14th
place and out of the points.
In one final cruel twist,
Rosberg and his ailing W05
were then lapped by Hamilton
two laps from home. However,
after taking the title scrap all
the way down to the wire,
Rosberg chose to fight on to
the chequered flag despite
Mercedes suggesting he could
retire his broken car if he want-
ed.
With his sole title rival out of
contention, Hamilton could
pace himself to the flag over
the final 30 laps, although he
came under a late challenge
for the race victory from
Williams’ Felipe Massa as the
Brazilian bolted on the quicker
supersoft tyres for an aggres-
sive final stint.
However, triumphing over the
man who nearly denied him
his first title six years ago in
rather more dramatic cir-
cumstances at Interlagos
by 2.5 seconds,
Hamilton’s 11th win of
his season capped up a
career-best campaign.
"This is the greatest day of
my life. 2008 was special but
the feeling I have now is way
past that. It's the greatest feel-
ing I have ever had," a jubliant
Hamilton said to Sky F1's
Martin Brundle on the podium.
"The start was like a rocket
and probably the best I've ever
had. Going into the race I had
different approaches in my
mind but the car was fantas-
tic."
