NAF Definition of Work-Based Learning

The mission of the National Academy Foundation (NAF) is to sustain a national network of career academies to support the development of America’s youth toward personal and professional success in high school, in higher education, and throughout their careers. NAF Academies represent business/school partnerships that prepare young people for future careers through a combination of school-based curricula and work-based experiences.

Work-Based Learning Continuum

NAF recommends all academy students participate in carefully structured and sequenced work-based learning activities. These, including the culminating experience of a compensated internship, improve academic performance ad post-secondary school outcomes for students. The continuum of work-based learning includes career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation, culminating with an internship.
