PRESIDENT’S REPORT
The season has passed as quick as the blink of an eye. I would like to thank all
of our members for their dedication in performing their patrol obligations.
With 15 rescues, 13 First Aid treatments and over 500 preventative actions
performed.
A big congratulations must go to Anika Morgan for her rescue of a tourist one
afternoon after school. Without her assistance this person would more than
likely not be alive today. Due to this intervention she won the Rescue of the
Month, awarded by Surf Life Saving NSW.
Membership numbers have remained around last year’s figures. Fundraising as
usual keeps moving on with the help of our many valued sponsors.
The Black and White Bowls Day, raised approximately $6000 and was again a
great success. Thanks to all who attended.
We have formed a working group to assist us in the building of a new Surf
Club. Progress has been slow but will be approaching a final outcome in the
near future.
On the competition side, once again our boat crews have done an excellent job
with Country, State and Australian medals. Steven Adams won our first
Australian Under 17years Beach Sprint Bronze medal. Well done to all of our
members who have competed this season.
A big thanks to Trevor, John, Brian, Ted and all committee members for their
assistance this year.
Les Pepper
CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Once again we managed to field strong patrols and it was great to have no lives
lost during patrol hours. Thank you to all members who helped out and filled
there patrolling obligations, we conducted over 4535 patrolling hours. We had
32 members complete 100% of their patrols (five more than last year). We
performed 15 rescues, 13 first aid treatments, and over 500 preventative actions.
We also had some of our members awarded Rescue of the Month for NSW for a
rescue performed out of patrolling hours, saving four tourists.
I would like to thank the patrol captains for their hard work throughout the
season and the patrol sponsors. With their help we were able to get a new IRB
beach trailer, an oxy viva soft pack, rescue boards and maintain our current
equipment.
It has been good to see the amount of younger members this year step up and
obtain Advanced Resuscitation, Senior First Aid, Spinal Management, and IRB
qualifications to help manage the increasing workload the Club is responsible
for.
Thanks also to the trainers, assessors, and people who helped out and ran the
proficiency days. We had a good number of members obtain their bronze this
year and I hope to see them continue patrolling next season.
A big thank you to Trevor, Les, Ted, John, Sue and the other committee
members for all their hard work throughout the season.
This year Team 8 Patrol won the Patrol Efficiency Award. Anika Morgan, and
Justin Eyles were nominated as Club Persons of the Year and Chelsea Adams
was awarded the President’s Encouragement Award.
The top 5 members performing the most patrolling hours were:

IRB CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Congratulations to all Members who gained their IRB awards this season.
A big thank you must go to Bob Wright who gave up his Saturday mornings to
train our new IRB Drivers and Crewpersons. A job well done.
Once again thank you to Geoff King for his continuing support.

COMMUNICATION OFFICER’S REPORT
In the 2012/13 season we have had our ups and downs. We lost our radios due
to a break in. This put our club and our members in a dangerous position due to
no contact being possible with Surfcom if we had to perform a mass rescue.
Since then we have replaced the hand held radios and we are still waiting on the
base radio to be returned.
If anyone would like to know more on how you use the new hand held radios
there is a CD that you can borrow from me.
I would like to thank all the members for looking after the gear this season and I
will see you all next year.
Kirt Mavin
BOAT CAPTAIN’S REPORT
Thank you to all who rowed and helped throughout the season.
Great results were achieved. The Under 23 Men travelled far and wide, gaining
silver in the Opens and Under 23s at Country, Semi Finals at World
Championships at Christies Beach SA, Second in Opens NC Boat Premiership,
Semi Finals at Manly Carnival, Semis at Stockton, ASRL Open Championships
Semis, Semis in Opens at Mooloolaba QLD Cup also at State and Australian
Championships. Huge program and huge amount of travel, always threatening
and worked extremely hard.
200 Masters Long Strokers were second in the North Coast Premiership, bronze
at Country, silver at State and bronze at the Australian Championships. They
had a podium finish at every carnival, age shall not weary them, keep strokin’.
160 Masters Mud Crabs were winners of the North Coast Premiership and Coffs
Craft Carnival, finalists at ASRL at Stockton and bronze medal at the Australian
Championships. A great effort throughout the season.
160 Masters Women Queens got together late in the season with great results
claiming silver at State and finishing fifth in the final at Aussies. This was a big
effort to achieve those results in a short time together.
Reserve Grade Honey Badgers were on fire early in the season but through
work commitments could not go to major carnivals. They were strong with a
great win in the North Coast Premiership and a force to be reckoned with if they
could have gone to more carnivals.
The U19s started with a crew at the first carnival but unfortunately the crew
could not commit and folded. The first time in many years we haven’t had a
crew in this division and will have to make sure we do next season.
To all our sponsors and many helpers a huge thank you. A special thanks to the
Seaview Tavern, Driscoll’s Berries, Costa Berry Exchange, Arc Attack Eng.
Vertigo Blue, Woolgoolga Dental Centre, Ian Thorncroft and Nicole Cardow
for their sponsorship.
To all who helped me throughout the long season thank you very much. A huge
effort at the Seaview Tavern Raffles and Golf Day was put in by Justin Eyles,
Ian Thorncroft and many others too numerous to mention.
To the sweeps and coaches who put in so many hours at training and attending
carnivals, we all thank you. Craig Schweikert, Dean Slater, Trevor Clark, Brian
Sedivy and our super coach, Bob Burgess, all put in enormous amounts of work.
Boatie of the Year 2012-2013. Always hard to separate a great core bunch of
people who help out, year in and year out and put in the work to help everyone.
The winner worked continually with raffles, golf day and filling in at training
with other crews who had rowers missing and competing with several crews,
often two crews at a carnival, raised an enormous amount of sponsorship for
gear and lined up more major sponsors for next season. Ian (SOFTY)
Thorncroft thank you very much for your contribution to our club, now you
must continue with this level of commitment. Softy also picked up three medals
for the season, not bad for a young nipper in our crew.
Thank you everyone but there can only be one winner of this award but I reckon
you are all winners for your participation, hard work and dedication to the sport
and Surf Life Saving.
Thank you to our club committee for all the help throughout the season, and a
big cheerio to Gary Bell.
If I have forgotten anyone, I apologize as I am fast getting CRAFT, bring on
next season bigger and better, Go Hard or Go Home.

BOARD AND SKI CAPTAINS REPORT
Season 2012- 2013 was a mixed bag of emotions for the Board and Ski Squad
members. Injuries to competitors made things difficult when it came to Branch,
Country, State and Australian Championships. With Jim McCullagh, Ken Cook
and Adam Rees carrying niggling injuries, the boys still made our club proud in
securing medals throughout the summer.
Senior/Master’s squad – Ken Cook, Jim McCullagh, Gordon Abbott, Craig
McBrien, Adam Rees, Gilbert Schweikert, Harry Woolsey, Zac Donnelly and
Steven Adams.
Big congratulations must go out to Steven Adams who took home silver in the
Australian U/17s Beach Sprint at North Kirra.
I am grateful to all squad members and the parents who assisted in the
transporting of equipment and tents to carnivals.
Congratulations everyone and enjoy the off season.

CLUB COACH’S REPORT
Congratulations to all those who represented the club as competitors during the
2012 / 2013 season. It was a commendable effort by all, Juniors included.
A special mention to Australian Title Medal winners, Steven Adams for his
bronze in the U/17 Beach Sprint (our first Open Beach Medal in recent history)
and the Masters Boaties, Mud Crabs and Longstrokers crews who also achieved
bronze in their relative categories.
It has been a pleasure to coach and train the Board and Ski contingent this
season and from a coach’s perspective, often frustrating but always fun and
rewarding. Thank you for your camaraderie and support.
Thanks also to those who attended the Club Championship Day and I am
hoping for a bigger and better attendance next year.

FIRST AID OFFICERS’ REPORT
The pre-season inspection went off with nil loss of points, thanks to a great deal
of hard work (particularly by Bob Wright). Many thanks to Shannon at
Woolgoolga Pharmacy for her assistance, greatly reduced prices and substantial
donations.
The season commenced on 22-9-12 and ran through to the 28-4-13 with large
numbers of the public attending the beach on most days. During this time patrol
members carried out the following:
3 tube rescues
4 board rescues
7 IRB rescues
1 lost child (subsequently found )
1 marine sting
6 minor cuts and grazes
2 finger fractures
1 suspected spinal damage (ambulance transported to Health Campus)
with 100% positive results.
These relatively small numbers can be more than partly attributed to the
proactive patrol members who undertook 454 preventative actions during the
season. Additionally the excellent first aid training and the proficiency testing,
ensured a well drilled team of patrol members.
All extremely pleasing.
Peter Brown and Bob Wright
80TH
ANNIVERSARY AND PRESENTATION NIGHT
It was with great pleasure that our club celebrated its 80th

fantastic night.
Dignitaries who attended the night were Luke Hartsuyker - Federal Member for

JAC PRESIDENT’S REPORT
183 nippers registered for the 2012 / 2013 season, in comparison to last season’s
146, an increase of approximately 25%. This is a pleasing result for the future
of the club.
The season commenced on 7th October and concluded on 10
th March, with
Presentation Day on 17th March.
Financially the juniors had another excellent year and the nippers are able to
finance whatever equipment they require for the upcoming season. The
Woolgoolga CEX Bowling Club, Thursday night raffle continued throughout
the season and although low on regular volunteers, has been a good contributor
to funds. Regular Sunday morning BBQ’s have again been of great benefit both
financially and socially. The BBQ continues to be well supported by the
members. The success of the BBQ can be attributed to Jamie, Carl and Lilly,
who have done a fantastic job and on behalf of the Juniors I would like to thank
them for their efforts.
This season’s calendar consisted of 21 weeks. Excluding 3 Branch carnivals and
the Country titles a possible 17 weeks of activities were planned for
Woolgoolga Beach. Out of these possible 17 days nippers were held for 13,
three days being cancelled due to weather or beach conditions and one as a
result of a missing person.
In summary the nippers season included:
3 nippers competing at the State Championships.
31 competing at the Country Championships with the club finishing in
13th position overall.
Approximately 60 -70 nippers attending each of the 3 Branch carnivals.
3rd
position in the Junior Branch Championships.
Emma Brown and Bayley White represented the club in the Junior Life
Saver of the Year Competition.
Bayley White was selected in the North Coast Interbranch Team.
Ryan Birchall was named Junior Club Person of the Year.
William Gromadzki was Junior Club Champion.
The Country Titles weekend proved to be a great success with the majority of
families staying at Hat Head Surf Club. During my time at the club this is the
first time the Juniors have stayed together as a team. Hat Head Surf Club made
us feel completely welcome and could not have been more helpful.
The Under 14 age group had a very successful season. 12 completed the Surf
Rescue Certificate and all attended the North Coast Branch Development Camp
in November. Thank you to Doug White for facilitating the SRC course.
Most of them have now been included on the clubs patrol roster and hopefully
the majority continue on with the club as competitors, patrolling volunteers or
both. It is rewarding to see these nippers mature from children to proficient
patrol members. On behalf of the Junior Committee thank you to their age
manager, Phil, who has been with the group for many seasons.
Ted McCartney and Craig McBrien again provided board training this season
for those nippers who wished to improve their skills. Thank you to them.
The completion of the season saw some of our Junior Committee Members and
helpers retire from their positions. To Pat and Judy, Jamie, Phil, Renee and
others who may not seek re-election, thank you very much for your contribution
to the club.
I would like to also acknowledge Jim and Kath as our Junior Club
Superintendent and Vice Super for their weekly contribution in running the
beach activities. Jim’s commitment cannot be understated with him
volunteering to assist our nippers this season and travelling from Nambucca
Heads on a weekly basis.
Thank you to senior club members who assisted the Juniors this season with
their activities.
Nigel Della - Junior President
New Club Advisory Group
A huge thank you to Ian Preston, Eddie Broomfield, Rod McKelvey, Rob
Burgess and Gordon Abbott, for their tireless dedication to our club. This group
gave up a great deal of their own time, attending meetings and negotiating with
Coffs Harbour City Council and planning for our new Clubhouse.
Without their knowledge and expertise we would not have made the great
strides in our new Clubhouse becoming a close reality.
“On The Same Wave” Family Surf Safety Day
Families from many different backgrounds came together in June for
SLSNSW’s Family Surf Safety Day, held at our beach. With great weather on
offer up to 30 people attended the program which aimed to present vital surf
safety messages to families in the Woolgoolga area who may not be familiar
with the beach.
An amazing mix of cultures were represented during the day including families
from Eritrea, Burundi, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, The Republic of Congo and
Sudan.
Our Club volunteers added personal experiences and took groups along the
beach, pointing out rips and wave types as well as leading an on beach
demonstration of how to spot a rip. The day concluded with a social barbecue
encouraging attendees to ask Lifesavers any questions in an informal
environment. Facilitators from the program have been invited to teach the
course again at the end of Term 3 for Woolgoolga High School.
Many thanks to Sue Neil, who organised the day, along with her many helpers.
Black and White Bowls Day
This annual event was held in January and raised over $6000 for our club. The
number of prizes from so many community donors was astounding. Perhaps
next year we need to involve more locals in the bowling aspect.
Many thanks to Tom Holder and Dennis Watkins for being the backbone in
organising the day. C.ex Woolgoolga were most generous in sponsoring the
day.
Woolgoolga’s 125th
Anniversary Heritage Parade
We had a large contingent of Junior and Senior Club Members who marched for
the Club in the Heritage Parade in June. Our members looked spectacular in
their uniforms and the rescue equipment reminded the community why our
services are needed. The crowd were most generous in showing their
appreciation at the job we do.
A Warm Appreciation to;
Those members who helped with raffles on Wednesday, Thursday and
Friday nights.
Adam Rees (Website) and Brian Sedivy (Facebook) for keeping our
communications up to date.
Renee Berrisford for her photographic skills.
Everyone who helped with our two Surf Awareness Days.
All the members who marched for the Club on ANZAC Day.
