Spellathon
Spellathon is WWF-Pakistan’s nation-wide spelling competition directed at awareness-
raising. Students of Roots School System branches across North region are benefiting
substantially in terms of enhancing their comprehension and vocabulary skills by
participating in the Spellathon.
Designed to take a student on a developmental voyage of scientific discovery the booklets
ease a child into understanding various segments of the environment and make them
realise their individual roles to mitigate impact on the earth. Most of the booklets focus aim
to explain that environments are integrated, overlapping and co-dependent.
The booklets were disseminated amongst the registered students of grade one to nine
who then prepare for a spelling competition while at the same time learning about the
environment. The test will be conducted in September. Non - Green students can enrol for
the Spellathon while Green Students participate free of cost.
Waste Free Lunch
Roots School System has been observing ‘Waste Free Lunch’ every Tuesday. The
students bring their lunch in reusable boxes, items which they are required to take back
home, wash and reuse. The idea is to discourage the use of the polythene and paper
bags, reducing waste and using products with minimal packaging. This activity not only
aimed at educating students, but is also very effective in sending a message to parents
regarding using items with less packaging material.
