Abstract

Kim, Jong-Jun

The study is aimed to collect and list the contentious issues related to Ilchinhoe (

, pro-Japanese Association) among the materials of Kyung-ri-won ( , The

Office of Accounts) possessed in Kyu-jang-gak ( , Storing Institution of

documents and material), and contribute to developing the study of Ilchinhoe further.

The materials of Kyung-ri-won, which will be used for the study, were mainly the files

of documents produced in the period from 1905 to 1907, which were composed of

government’s official reports and instructions or orders, exchanged among officers of

Kyung-ri-won, those of local administration and tax collectors and the petitions sent

to Kyung-ri-won by the local residents.

For the study based on actual proof, a great deal of effort has been made to get

all the materials of Ilchinhoe together, and on the other hand, from the view-point of

the study, almost, the same great effort has been thrown to unveil the true historical

nature of Ilchinhoe as much as possible. As the results of the study, firstly, the full

story of the conflicts related to Ilchinhoe and its socio-economical phase was brought

to the light. Secondly, some aspects of Ilchinhoe’s reform-oriented activities, its

quibbles or sophistication for the civilization of Chosun society advocated by the

member of Ilchinhoe and the local people’s protests against Ilchinhoe’s activities were

closely examined and verified.
