~SWP’s are a cornerstone of the vision for school reform as defined in Title I of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.
~Research shows that in order for the lowest achieving students in the highest poverty schools to meet high standards of performance, the school's entire instructional program must be substantially improved.
~SWP schools may consolidate federal, state, and local funds to reform their entire educational program.
Explanation of Schoolwide Program
How does a school become a Title I schoolwide program?
• The school must have at least 50 percent of student population qualified for free or reduced lunch
• The school decides, in consultation with the district, to become a SWP.
81% of York Elementary student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
