Parent Involvement Compact & PolicyMust develop jointly with, agree upon, and distribute a written copy to parents

SCHOOL MISSION: The mission of York Elementary School is to establish a strong foundation for lifelong learning, promote academic excellence and productive citizenship. This compact is a voluntary agreement between the parent, the student, and the teacher to help your child’s progress in school, by promoting his/her achievement. We believe this agreement can be fulfilled through our team effort. As a student, I agree to: take responsibility for my actions by exhibiting self control respond in an appropriate manner when given direction or correction by any teacher or staff member make sure notes home are received by my parent or guardian in a timely manner observe our school’s safety rules respect others, myself, and school property to do my best in all that I do at home and school

As a parent, I agree to: help my child to resolve conflicts in a positive way show support for my child and the school staff by attending conferences and various other functions at school keep the lines of communication open to my child and the school encourage good study habits, review work, and show interest in my child’s education at home and at school limit and monitor my child’s TV viewing and computer usage get my child to school regularly and on time

As a teacher, I agree to: provide timely information to the student and the parent based on student progress use methods and techniques that work best for my class provide an environment conducive to learning become familiar with each students’ learning style in order to help each student grow to his/her fullest potential communicate routinely and effectively with my students and parents

As a team we can work together to carry out this agreement.

~SWP’s are a cornerstone of the vision for school reform as defined in Title I of the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.

~Research shows that in order for the lowest achieving students in the highest poverty schools to meet high standards of performance, the school's entire instructional program must be substantially improved.

~SWP schools may consolidate federal, state, and local funds to reform their entire educational program.

How does a school become a Title I schoolwide program?

• The school must have at least 50 percent of student population qualified for free or reduced lunch

• The school decides, in consultation with the district, to become a SWP.

81% of York Elementary student population qualifies for free or reduced lunch.

New Standards and TCAP Test

In 2010, the state is implementing new curriculum and assessment standards more reflective of national and international student performance in the 21st Century. To meet these standards new expectations for student academic progress will be necessary.

Swine Flu: Things You Need to Know

~No cause for panic.So far, swine flu isn't much more threatening than regular seasonal flu.

~Virus tougher on some.Swine flu is more of a threat to certain groups — children under 2, pregnant women, people with health problems like asthma, diabetes and heart disease. Teens and young adults are also more vulnerable to swine flu.

~Be extra cautious.~Cover your mouth and nose.~Wash your hands often and long.~ Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.~Get vaccinated early. Immunity takes awhile.~Stay home when you are sick. (At least 24 hours after you no longer have a fever) ~Avoid close contact.
