Amsterdam 09-11-16 Heroes of Football Launch Event Speeches Jesus Tomillero Good afternoon, I am Jesus Tomillero. I am the first referee in Spanish football who has declared openly to be gay. ,,Football y being a referee is my life.’’ Nobody is to going to stop my dream to reach the Primera Division. I want to pass by all the obstacles on my way, but I will never deny who I am. A normal person who loves football and who loves his friends. He is just a man like me. My childhood has not been easy. When I was three years old my father was killed. My mother left us in a centre for children. When I was eleven I started my dream to become a referee. It is a perfect way to escape from daily life. On the football pitch I can forget all the bad things. And I love it to be a part of the world of football. The king of the sports. I love two things: My friend and being a referee. When I decided to get out of the closed a lot of things happened. The insults I received were so heavy that I almost decided to stop what i love so much. Being a referee. I receive still dead threats every day. I put myself together to fight back. I am stronger than the hate. Nobody is going to stop me now. I am still nothing more than a homosexual referee. Sadly enough something unique in Spain. It should not be like that. The most important thing is liberty without being afraid for nothing. Apart from threats and insults I also received a lot of positive messages from all the parts of the world. Two weeks ago I was invited by Football Club Barcelona for an act against homophobia. They showed that it is possible to fight for a world of football where there is a place for everybody. Without distinctions. Let’s hope a lot of federations follow the example of Barcelona. My own federation, the Spanish one, still does not care about my case. I did not even received a simple phone call. I don’t have cancer. It is never too late to work together to create a world of football where nobody points out his finger to gays. There are a lot of international campaigns against racism in football. That is very positive off course. But it is now time to fight seriously against homophobia. It is a shame that in the 21st century things against me are still

Amsterdam 09-11-16 Heroes of Football Launch Event Speeches Jesus Tomillero Good afternoon,

I am Jesus Tomillero. I am the first referee in Spanish football who has declared openly to be gay. ,,Football y being a referee is my life.’’

Nobody is to going to stop my dream to reach the Primera Division.

It is a shame that in the 21st century things against me are still

happening on a pitch. How is it possible that in normal society gays are getting married but on in the world of football gay referees, players and coaches or not accepted? They say football is a sport of man. Well I am a man too!

I cannot fight on my own against homophobia in Spanish football. I need the help of other people. There are a lot of people who are still afraid to come out of the closed. Because of other people they cannot live the life they should live. A happy life. A normal life. Playing football and loving the ones they want. This freedom is so important. I will continue my fight with my organisation. But I would love to work together with everybody who has the same goals as me. I am very proud and thankful to be here in Amsterdam. There is a world to win. Let’s do some steps forward!

Buenas tardes,

Soy Jesus Tomillero.

Arbitrar. Recibo a diario amenazas de muerte. Agaré todos mis fuerzas para segiuer. Soy mas fuerte que el odio. Ahora nadie me a parar.

No guardo ningun rencor.
