an essay on memory tricks
TRANSCRIPT
The best ways to use memory for studying according to the video
workshops.
Learning through memorizing process remains by far the most widely used method
by the students at school and it is, however, viewed the toughest job for students while
mentally striving to get the ideas stuck in the mind for the exam. This is true with geography,
history, language rules, math’s rules …etc. Yet, being equipped with the tricks will make the
task of learning things by heart so much easier for the learners. There are plenty of tricks that
students ought to keep in mind while struggling to get things stuck into their brains. The main
concern of this essay is to cast as much light as possible on these helpful tricks.
Acronyms, coupled with acrostics and mental pictures tend to be at the heart of the
useful tricks for memorizing things fast. As to the use of acronyms, which means the words
you made up of the first letters of the other words, it is efficiently helps facilitate the process
of memorization of a long list of words which are hard to remember easily. To sample this,
assume that you were asked to learn coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so)
by heart in order to use them in the exam, students may make up a word of the seven words.
For example, the word might be FAN BOYS. Additionally, acrostics trick is another
technique of more benefits to learn sentences. Unlike acronyms, acrostics are the words made
up of the first letters of the words that shape a sentence. For example, if you look at this group
of letters EGBDF, they will not easy to remember since they are just a bunch of letters, but
when you memorize “ Every Good Boy Does Fine”, you will remember the letters. The
sentence can be any sentence you want as long as it begins with the same letters. Thirdly,
mental pictures can better help learners stick the ideas into the brain. How? Learners should
close their eyes and think of an object and get a picture of something in their mind in a certain
way and then it easily becomes easy to remember for future use.
More other memory tricks are very useful when it comes to memorizing definition and
extracting locations. Several students suffer a great deal from the remembrance of definitions
and in order to overcome this problem, simply associate the definition with a similar sound
and utilize cue technique. The pertinent example of that is the word Keronauphobia which
looks complicated, unusual to the ear and hard to remember. Nevertheless, by connecting it to
a similar sound like: the name ‘Karen’, the student can figure out the meaning and remember
it easily, by giving the example Karen is afraid of lightening, it can be stuck into the mind of
the learner. By the way, this trick is more beneficial to Students who try to learn foreign
languages, as most learners tend to be in desperate need of plenty of vocabulary items with
which they can better speak the targeted language. It can also be used to learn pronunciation
Ultimately, according to Cognitive psychology, taking notes requires physical
efforts, mental processing, but satisfying results. In other words, for the learner to remember
the information better, they should make it meaningful. Or else, remembering process might
be hard to do. So as to attain this well, some techniques can be exploited for that reason. One
of which is Mnemonics in the sense that it aids information retention, and helps students
remember a wide range of information accordingly. For instance, the word “Ianua” is a Latin,
by origin, meaning “the door”: by making it in a sentence like” iguana walks to the door”
the student connects easily the meaning of the Latin word to the English one he/she is familiar
with. While using Mnemonics the student ought to do what works for him/her, even by
forming artificial or arbitrary connections, it helps keep the information in one’s head, keep it
there for a long time.
Basically, the conclusion that we can draw from the afore-mentioned discussion is that
memory tricks are very beneficial only when they are used purposefully to stick the
information easily in the learners’ mind. These tricks are a lot, but acronyms, acrostics,
mental pictures, Mnemonics and simplification remain at the heart.
