Adopt-A-School ProgramdAnce PerForMAnce BY MArtin lutHer king, Jr. eleMentArY scHooltrenton, nJ
Adopt-a-school is one of Young Audiences’ most successful initiatives and we are thrilled to be celebrating its 10th anniversary. in 2006, Young Audiences launched the program in response to the elimination of the arts by the trenton school Board. the first year we served 4 schools and each year since after the program has grown. We now serve every elementary and middle school in Trenton and have expanded to ewing, lawrence, and camden. generous support from corporations, foundations, and individuals has made this success possible.
Funding provides a year’s worth of arts programming to a school:
• PerformancesbyYoungAudiencesartistsorgroupsthattransform an “all-purpose” space into a performance hall, giving many students their first chance to experience a live production • Hands-onart-makingworkshopsthatturnanordinaryclassroominto an artist’s studio for students to connect with their personal creativity guided by a professional artist • Professionaldevelopmentforteacherssotheycanlearntousethe arts to teach across the curriculum
in trenton, we annually serve 9,000 students and 150 teachers in 19 elementary and middle schools.
with your help, we hope to expand this program to more schools in need throughout our region. with every community we serve we are that much closer to our goal of reaching every child every year with transformative arts education experiences. Join us!
“Because of Adopt-a-school, our students have enjoyed an African play, a dance troupe, a mime, tap dancers, and a graphic novelist. without this program, our children never would have had these experiences. Both the staff and students here at robbins deeply appreciate your program and look forward to its continued success in trenton.”
