An indirect object is similar to a direct object, it also:
Is always a noun or pronounComes after and action verbIs never in the prepositional phrase
Can also be compound
There are some differences though, such as:
It comes before the direct object.
There is never an indirect object if there is not a direct object.
It can NOT be in a sentence by itself.
So how do you find the IO?1. Find the verb.2. Make sure that it is an action verb
(NOT a linking verb).3. Find the direct object.4. Ask: To whom? To what? For whom?
For what?5. Make sure that the answer comes
between the verb and the direct object.
So now let’s find the I.O.Mary fed the whale fish.
Tell me a story.
Joe did her and me a favor.
