" ' ON HEWITT LAKE AREA.

INTRODUCTION:

The author was instructed to summarize previous geological information of the area and to evaluate the potential economic possibilities of the property and area for further exploration.

Information on the area has been derived from REPORT 186, ONTARIO GEOLOGICAL SURVEY, published in 1980. The author was also the staker of the present property for Mr. Me Nerney. During the course of this staking geological formations observed appeared to be worthy of further detailed exploration to assess the economic potential of the property.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

Sulphide mineralization containing pyrite, pyrrhotite.magnetite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite and chalcopyrite has been found on and in the vicinity of the present claim group and several diamond drill holes have been encountered in or around present claim KRL 999111. Preliminary sampling by the owner did not reveal any economic gold values, however, geological formations and mineralization appear to be favourable for gold deposition.

The HEWITT LAKE greenstone-sedimentary belt is fairly extensive with excellent geological potential and the present property should be enlarged to enhance the possibilities of finding concentrations of ore bearing mineralization.

Airomagnetic MAP 8??G, covers the immediate HEWITT LAKE property and outlines several areas of interest..

Additional acquisition of claims by means of staking should beconsidered immediately surrounding the present holdings and' at least 50 claims should be staked.

This fairly large greenstone-sedimentary geological horizon is currenily largely open for staking and could be acquired at reasonable cost. The prime area recommended for acquisition would be from

eastward from Kipa Lake.

A fairly large tract of claims are located on the east of .the claim map Gl?94 and it is believed exploration work was being done by MPH CONSULTING LTD on behalf of the owners in 198? which included geophysical surveys and diamond drilling.

The gold values of 0.30 oz/T reported as the INTERLAC occurance (1938) in the trenches on on North Spirit Lake (south Bay) appears to be located on present claim 999226,or 99922? with adjoining claims open for staking.

Gold values of 0.29, 0.81, and 0.14 were reported from pits on Hewitt Lake in 1936 by Mining Corporation of Canada.. These pits are currently overgrown and will be required to be re-located and cleaned out and sampled. It is believed these values are presently located on either claim KRL999103 or 0^..

Airborne geophysical surveys should be considered as a first phase to evaluate the Hewitt Lake area with any areas of conductivity followed up by ground surveys and claim acquisition and detailed sampling.

An examination of the gold occurance on claim KRL999226 should be considered with follow-up acquisition if favourable results are obtained.

PROPERTY, LOCATION. MEANS OF .ACCESS;

The property currently consists of 12 staked mineral claims recorded in the name of W. Me Nerney, Red Lake Mining Division, Ontaric and are numbered KRL 999101 to 106 inclj KRL999110 to 115 inclj andare all located on mining claim map Gl?o4, Hewitt Lake Sheet.

The property is located some 1?0 Km. northeast of the Town of Red Lake, Ontario , and a settlement is located at North Spirit Lake.

The property comprises some^SO acres of mineral claims being 200 acres of land and 280 acres of water under Hewitt Lake and should be expanded.

The only means of access to the area is by float equipped aircraft

from the town of Red Lake.

GENERAL GEOLOGY OF THE AREA:

The Hewitt Lake area covers the central part of the North Spirit

Lake-Mac Bowell Lake metavolcanic and metasedimentary belt herein

celled the North Spirit Lake belt. Isoclinally folded metavolcanics

and metasediments intruded by stocks, dikes and sills of ultramafic

,mafic, intermediate , and felsic igneous rocks occur in the central

part of the map area. These rocks are bounded to the east and west

by felsic to intermediate batholithic intrusions. A diabase dike,

probably of Middle or Late Precambrian age , is present in the

western part of the area, and post-dates all other bedrock units

which are Early Precambrian (Archean) in age. Pleistocene and Recent

deposits over a large portion of th map area.

The North Spirit Lake Belt consists of rocks of greenschist facies

meta-morphic rank, except for those rocks close to the contact with

the Margot Lake granitic rocks where the metamorphisim is of

hornblende-cordierite facies rank.

In the region south of South Bay, cross-folding of the isoclinally

folded strata has occurrred. The western contact of the North Spirit

Lake Belt and the granitic batholith ;ic rocks is a south-east

trending fault zone with a downdrop to the north. This fault zone

has been mapped from Favourable Lake to MasDowell Lake and is

probably much longer than this. VJithin the fault zone between

Favourable and North Spirit, subsidiary faults branch from the main

fault zone. These branch faults are mainly arcuate, occur on the

northeast.side of the main fault zone, and appear to die out as soon

their strike direction tends towards east-nortteast which normally

occurs some 10 to 2OKm from the point of branching. The North Spirit

Lake Fault just to the north of the map area is such a fault.

GEOLOGY OF PROPERTY i

The only available data f or 3the exploration work carried out by the Mining Corporation of Canada in 1938, is as follows;12 claims were acquired in 1936 on the northeast shore of the northeast, arm of Hewitt Lake as a result of obtaining gold in pannings from exposures of rusty schist. The occurance consists of siliceous shear zones in drag folded garnpjyferous sediments near a contact with greenstone. Trenching failed to disclose any

persistence to the zone, which outcrops as a low rusty cliff, about 20 feet wide, at the lake shore, striking slightly south of east. Mineralization consists of disseminated pyrite with minor amounts of arsenopyrite and pyrrhotite in fine-grained, chert-like siliceous material. Three grab samples were reported by that company to have given 0.l4oz,0.29oz,0.81 oz gold per ton. Subsequent check sampling failed to reveal more than 0.10 oz per ton in l? samples. A grab sample taken by John Wood of the Geological survey returned 0.0? oz gold per ton from this showing.

The pits are now completely overgrown. The rock type at the locality of the pits is a ferruginous, pyritiferous meta-chert and contains minor amounts of magnetite and pyrite. Mafic metavolcanics outcrop along the shoreline to the east and black shale to the west.SUMMARY i

Sufficient encouragement has been reported from several wide spread gold bearing zones within this volcanic-sedimentary horizon and which should be considered for detailed examination.
