However, the gender and language breakdown of the lists reflects the gender and language imbalances that are endemic in the 5 lists. For instance, only 1% of the directors of films in the 5 lists are female, and there are only 9% non-English movies. The results of the study would show a large number of connec�ons to american-made films, while popular films of other languages would have fewer connec�ons.

In considera�on of the limita�ons above, we have decided to amend the groups previously used to include two more groups: one with top 100 female directors’ movies by indiew-ire.com, and Top 100 Foreign Movies by IMDB . By including these two groups, the study should become more accurate by overlapping the preferences of films from these two groups with the other groups in the study, which would give more weight to movie edges that are present in the two addi�onal groups.

The figure on the right shows a visualiza�on of a network graph of top movies by the groups chosen to be part of the study. The distance between the points in this graph represents the similarity between the movies that the point represents.The first observa�on would be that Business Insider is at the opposite end of the graph from IMDb and AFI. This shows that the movies typically well received by the academic body and the film industry are also less likely to make large amounts of revenue.The second point of observa�on would be that there does not exist any single movie which has been recommended by all five groups at once. The last observa�on from this is the number of connec�ons that Douban has with the other groups. This number is significant, which is surprising given that Douban’s country of origin differs from the other groups. This could be a�ributed to the digi�za�on and globaliza�on of films, causing films created to be widely spread regardless of their country of origin.

Ranked list of films complied from several trustworthy websites offered their own lists of the top 100 films, we compiled the lists by looking at those films that were most o�en listed by the audi-ence, film cri�cs and the Academy. In this process, we ranked each film by how many individual lists it appeared on and the rank it received on each of these lists. Each film, therefore, re-ceived a score based on these two metrics. For our final list, we compiled the films with top 100 scores, in order.

To conclude, the key takeaway from this study should be the method to evaluate how a movie is ranked within the world of film-making. Based on the network graphs, it is evident that rankings provide by different entities are biased and subjective. In order to find the best movie, we should compare between the varied opinions and analyze beyond the face value of a single rank number.

In the digital age of humanities, focus is moving away from books and novels towards movies. Movies have thus become the next medium to take up the mantle of mainstream storytelling to the general public. Our group has decided to conduct a research on the types of movies that the public are the most attracted to, as well as do a thorough analysis on the reasons they are attracted to them, using techniques learnt in Digital Humanities class.Since the start of movie-making in the 20th and 21st Century, various groups have brought it upon themselves to act as the representative of the public in creating lists comprising of the top movies within a certain time period. For the purposes of this study, we will be looking at the time periods between 1950-2019.
