CTE programs at Anchor Bay High School give our students the opportunity to explore a variety of career fields and while giving both “hands- on” and “real world” experiences. Students begin taking classes their 9th grade school year. Each program allows students to study the demands and expectations of different careers. Anchor Bay High School offers the following CTE state approved programs: Health Occupations, Auto Tech, Teacher Cadet, Web Design, Graphics, Culinary Arts, Mechanical Draſting (CAD), Finance, Business Management, Horticul- ture, Marketing, JROTC, Computer Programming and Construction Trades. All of these CTE courses have articulation agreements, which are partnerships with community colleges and four-year universities. These agreements allow students to potentially earn varying amounts of credit for their high school course work, once they enroll in or complete a course at a participating college or univer- sity. Thus allowing them to not only save money, but possibly valuable time while enrolled in college. Anchor Bay High School Career and Technical Education Programs — providing needed career opportunities Automotive • Provides students with entry level skills and training needed to enter the automo- tive service industry as Auto Service Technicians • Students qualify to take the ASE maintenance and light engine repair certification • Students focus on automotive service, service repairs, diagnostics, basic engine principles, braking systems, steering and suspension and alignments • Students can earn college credit through articulation agreements with state colleges • Available as a 2 hour block class Graphic Arts • Explore the Adobe Master Collection CC Suite focus- ing on Photoshop, Illustrator and In- Design, with many other programs available for the student to explore • Advanced students learn to create a digital portfolio • Some students create printed pieces that are used throughout the district and community • Participate in design contests, including the NAIAS annual poster design contest • Field trips include Greenfield Village or the Detroit Zoo from which they will create an entire advertising campaign Horticulture • Students study science of plants, flowers and greenhouse production of plants for commercial use • Students explore Turf Management care and maintenance • Students run the district greenhouse with participation from the community • Students can earn college credit Hospitality Management • Opportunities to learn all aspects of running a full service restaurant and managing small catering events • Earn credit at Macomb Community College • Experience operating Anchor Bay’s “Shoreliner” Restaurant that is open to the public • Students gain the hands on experience found in the food industry Engineering • Offers a section of Engineering Technol- ogy for Women, to allow female students to explore opportunities in Science, Technol- ogy, Engineering and Math (STEM). • What was once referred to as the Anchor Bay CAD Program has now extended to the Project Lead the Way Programs running at the middle schools and elementary schools to the high school start- ing for the 2016 - 2017 school year. • Project Lead the Way high school curriculum will allow students more hands on activi- ties to expand their knowledge in STEM. Health Occupations • Help put on a blood drive for students to donate. • Run Pasta for Pennies fundraiser. • Do veterinary visit at the Detroit Zoo • Study Dimensional Analysis Math for Medications • Coloring book and Crayola drive for children in the hospital. • Study Medical Terminology • Job shadow at McLaren Macomb Hospital and at Health Quest Aquatic Center as well as Health Quest Mt. Clemens. • Study Anatomy & Physiology • Students compete at the Regionals, States and Nationally. In addition to the offerings highlighted here, Anchor Bay High School also offers the following CTE state approved programs: Business Managements, Education, Marketing, Finance, Business Web Design and Construction trades. Some highlights of these programs are: Additional offerings at ABHS • Business Web Design students will design and create an entire website • Marketing operates the “Nautical Shoppe” a student store within the high school • Business Management can earn Microsoſt Certifications in several areas • Finance students can take the National Occupational Competency Testing • Education has Teaching Tars in classrooms across the district • Air Force Junior ROTC is our Leadership Academy, preparing the youth of today to lead tomorrow • Construction Trades advanced students the industry and the different equipment that goes along with it • Computer Programming allows students to write computer programs and gain problem-solving skills that can be applied to a variety of career fields.
