O n Tuesday, a primary election was held in our county. Congratulations to those citizens in Hamblen County who are registered voters and who exercised their right to vote. Through this action, you con-

tributed to the success and progress of our community. If you have not yet registered to vote, I encourage you to do so before the August general election. The deadline to register for that election is July 3. The Chamber also salutes all the candidates who ran for office. We recognize this is a huge commit-ment. By putting yourself out there in the public eye, you opened yourself up to both accolades and criti-cism. You expressed your desire to facilitate change or continue the work already ongoing. Whatever your position on the various issues facing our county, you showed that you were willing to work to accomplish a goal. We thank you for your willingness to participate in the Chamber’s Candidate Forum that was held on April 9, and appreciate you helping us share with the community your views on issues facing Hamblen County. To those who were successful in your bid for public office, we send our congratulations and we look forward to working with you in the coming years. To those incumbents who will be retiring following the election, we issue a sincere THANK YOU for the service you have given. Our Chamber would not be able to accomplish all we do without the cooperation and support of our elected officials. One of the things of which we are most proud is our relationship with those who serve in public office. By continuing this team-work, our community will grow and prosper for years to come.

I have been out of the office and have asked our General Manager Debra Williams to write

our column this month.

Reflections on our Recent Election—Debra Williams, General Manager
