Sponsorship Sales Pack
Figaro Circuit 2009 ________________________________________________________
The worlds most demanding and competitive one-design
solo sailing circuit
The Skipper ________________________________________________________
Andy Greenwood was born in Chester in the UK on 6th
January 1982 getting into sailing aged 10 and racing ever
since. He shares many similarities to some of the leading
names in the sport having honed his skills alongside the
likes of Alex Thomson and Dee Caffarri. Andy's impressive
sailing CV already includes:
• youngest skipper Rolex Fastnet race
• 1st RORC offshore championship
• 2nd Rolex Fastnet Race
• 3rd BMW Round Ireland Race
Andy is a very personable character, extremely media
savvy and experienced with working with corporate
partners.
After a successful first season in the Figaro class during
2008 Andy is looking for partners to help him become the
first non French winner of this gruelling race and cement
his position as the UK’s leading Figaro sailor.
The Event ________________________________________________________
The main race on the Figaro circuit is the annual Solitaire
du Figaro. This gruelling race consists of 4 legs stopping in
France, Spain and Ireland and covers a total distance of
around 2000 miles. Top skippers on previous races have
gone on to further success in events such as the Vendee
Globe. These include Jean le Cam, Seb Josse and Michel
Desjoyeaux.
2009 will be the 40th edition of the race with over 50
yachts expected on the startline.
The race will start in July from Lorient on the French
Atlantic Coast and finish in Dieppe.
Andy will also compete in a number of qualifying and
training races both in France and the UK and will be
starting some pre-season training in the UK during January
and February.
The Boat ________________________________________________________
The boat used for the Figaro Circuit is a Beneteau Figaro 2
designed by Marc Lombard specifically for these events.
They are 10 meters long and feature a powerful carbon
rig, water ballast, twin rudders and a deep bulb keel. They
are very quick and responsive with speeds of over 20
knots recorded whilst being seaworthy enough to face
whatever the oceans throw at them.
Being a one-design class all of the equipment on each
boat is identical making the events a true test of the
skipper’s skill.
The Audience

The Media
________________________________________________________
The Figaro circuit is well followed by the press; the Solitaire
du Figaro in particular is the most heavily mediatised
annual race in France helped by the event organiser, the
daily newspaper Le Figaro and other media partners such
as Radio France and TF1
The events are followed in the UK in magazines, TV and on
the web and we will be working hard to gain further
coverage with daily reports, interviews and videos along
with updates on preparations throughout the year.
Some of the publications Andy had articles printed in
included the Guardian and Independent newspapers,
Yachts and Yachting, dailysail.com and an interview on
BBC Radio Merseyside.
As the UK’s leading Figaro sailor we are confident in
Andy’s ability to generate significant coverage for his
sponsors and partners.
