July 15th, 2019
Dear Friends, Namaste, I take great pride in thanking ICSR Committee for having organized very successfully all the events in the first half of 2019. Their flawless planning and meticulous execution led to the success of these events. I also thank the community for their continued support, enthusiasm and participation and lastly all the sponsors without whom we cannot
have the kind of quality programs we were able to provide.
Vasant Utsav which kicks off our year was very well attended and organized. Thanks to our local artists Leena Gore and Faisal Aslam for entertaining the audience with Bollywood songs and music.
Holi, the festival of colors is an event loved by all! It was another hit event where many from communities other than Indian, attended the celebrations. We were blessed with a bright day, which started with gulal, music, and dance, traditional snacks which transformed into a colorful celebration of love, friendship, and camaraderie!
The first Sunday in May was a gratifying day of Recreational Therapy at Helen Hayes
Hospital; our young dancers entertained the patients and sped up their recovery. The Annual
Cultural Show was a blockbuster! Our students and parents worked alongside talented choreographers to present the multicultural, diverse dance forms of India on Mothers' day weekend. We took this opportunity to recognize the graduating High school seniors and
presented VJ Pradhan Foundation scholarships to the deserving high school seniors. The Father’s Day Cruise was a great way for us to enjoy and celebrate a very
special day. We had great company, good food, good music and beautiful scenery. ICSR is so
fortunate to be able to bring these special events where so many lifetime memories are made for families.
The Seniors trip was our way of dedicating a special day for all our seniors. A luxury
bus with all our seniors went on a trip to Peace Village, Haines Falls NY. All of us participated in several activities which includes spiritual discourses, meditation session and a tour of the
beautiful peace village and nearby waterfalls. Our Annual Picnic held in July at Congers Lake was an enjoyable event where we
arranged live screening of Cricket world cup finals. It was a fun filled summer day that brought families together to play cricket, fly kites and play various games. Feedback received
from the community for the success of this event was heartwarming.
The other programs in pipe line for rest of the year are: India Day Parade, Navaratri Garba, Health Fair, Diwali, East Meets West and Youth meet. Please help ICSR grow with your involvement and attendance at all functions, organized by the hardworking Committee. I am looking forward to see you all in our upcoming events.

Four professionals will mentor these volunteers through the course of
the year in the following areas:
Abhineet Jha & Ramesh Bonam: Development of Skills in Event Photography: After capturing ICSR events for past
few years, it’s time to share the tips and tricks of photography with our young talented volunteers. As a collaborative team, the photography wing of ISCR’s Youth Program will get hands on experience from learning camera basics to capturing memorable moments at ICSR events. They will learn to work as a team, develop interpersonal and leadership skills while engaging with members of the community.
Rajiv Rohilla: Publicity and Membership drives: Committed to connecting our community to its culture and the values it
creates for our members of all ages and ultimately to increase our membership. Develop interpersonal skills, acquire more knowledge, confidence and develop an all-round personality of our youth which will help us secure a better future.
Suresh Iyer: Developing alumni network: Alumni had contributed immensely when they were younger, and we are thankful
to them. ICSR is what it is due to all their enthusiasm and spirit. The objective of forming ICSR Alumni group is to foster the spirit of giving in the form of sharing experiences and information that they have gained to the new kids at the cusp of starting college and their parents. Additionally, this will strengthen the ties between alumni and ICSR community as well as help in growing the ICSR family.
Charu Krishan: Creative Writing & Social Media Promotions: ICSR Youth Wing continues to work on spreading
awareness about the organization through social media and promotional campaigns. The volunteers are being coached to create written and graphic content to maintain ICSR’s online cultural synopsis series about travel, arts and heritage. The idea is to provide a platform to for them to explore creative writing, practice safe and practical cyber use, actively contribute towards the organization & generate a stronger sense of belonging to ICSR and Indian culture in general.
Past Events
Vasant Utsav
India is an amalgamation of versatile customs, cultures, and traditions. In efforts to continue promoting the Indian cultural heritage, Indian
cultural Society of Rockland welcomed the year 2019 with a grand spring celebration in form of a beautiful festival “Vasant Utsav”. On March
17th, 2019, ICSR arranged a fun filled musical evening for people of Rockland and adjoining counties. The festivity continued with ‘jeopardy’ on
India and ended with warm dinner. Children from the county were encouraged to display their artwork. This initiative is taken every year to
encourage the creativity of our youth. Politicians from the county graced the occasion with words of encouragement. Thanks to the efforts of
all the committee members, the evening truly portrayed the spirit of Indian fiesta.
Holi
Holi festival is a symbol of love, brotherhood and unity among people. It indicates the triumph of goodness over bad. It is celebrated with lots of
fun and frolic activities. This festival of colors is an event loved and enjoyed by all. A sunny and perfect April afternoon was brightened with
gulal, DJ, dance, traditional snacks and transformed into a colorful celebration of love, friendship, and camaraderie! Great turnout and many
communities other than Indian attended the celebrations on the Congers Lake.
Helen Hayes
Helen Hayes, the first Sunday in May was a gratifying day of Recreational Therapy at Helen Hayes Hospital; our young dancers entertained the
patients and sped up their recovery. A little Bollywood music & dance, some delicious Indian snacks, and few smiling faces brightened up
everyone’s day.
Annual Cultural Show
The Annual Cultural Show was a blockbuster! Our students and parents worked alongside talented choreographers to present the
multicultural, diverse dance forms of India on Mothers' day weekend. Over 200 dancers including moms and kids brought home 24
performances laced with foot tapping music, ethnic costumes, and brilliant choreography. It was a celebration of the community, by the
community and for the community. We took this opportunity to recognize the graduating High School seniors and presented VJ Pradhan
Foundation scholarships to the deserving high school seniors. The highlight of the evening was a grand finale by the 2019 community members
who rocked the dance floor by a surprise performance that was fun and refreshing!
Masala cruise
On Father’s Day, we yet again embarked upon a short cruise trip on the Hudson River. Another fun filled and well attended event that offered
enjoyable evening on the tranquil waters of the Hudson River along with food, drinks and entertainment for all. Kids had a blast and so did
everyone else on board.
Seniors Trip
This year ICSR’s senior citizen trip had gone to two different places to upstate, New York on June 30, 2019. Fifty six of us first went to Brahma
Kumari’s Peace Village Learning & Retreat Center located in Haines Falls, New York. We then went to see a fall named Kaaterskill fall also
located in Haines fall within two miles distance from the Peace Village.
We visited Brahma Kumari’s Peace Village Learning & Retreat Center in Haines Fall where we were greeted by Sister Ann and other
several staffs of the Peace Village. Here, we were provided a morning tea with snacks, afternoon lunch and bon voyage tea with popcorns
before we left to go to Kaaterskill falls. After the morning tea we attended a meditation session, watched videos and daily virtue scope as well
as Sister BK Shivani’s eye greeting session with a token of sweet given to each one of our attendees. After lunch, all of us were taken for a
nature walk to empower ourselves and then we attended a session of “7 Billion Acts of Goodness” that teaches everyone to increase the
awareness and attitude towards others. This is a Global campaign that Brahma Kumari is spreading throughout the world to exponentially
increase expressions of benevolence and bringing about a revolution of goodness and happiness in all.
We were given a big send-off by the Peace Village staff after that we all went to see a Kaaterskill Fall located only two miles from the Peace
Village and on a winding curvy road. After getting off the bus, people walked to go to see the fall on their observation deck and all of us watched
the fall as well as the nature’s beauty taking pictures and sharing with all the attendees. It was an extremely wholesome day.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this trip possible.
Summer Picnic
On a perfect Sunday morning in the middle of the month of July, close to 200 members of all ages spent a memorable, fun filled and enjoyable
day by the Congers Lake. In the offering was the live screening and a nail biting finish of the WC 2019, lots of fun games and activities for kids, a
cricket match of our own for the ladies and gents besides delicious breakfast, lunch and desserts.

Culture and Art enhance the quality of our lives. This is particularly true to all Indians as we come from a land steeped in
traditions and culture. As Indian Americans, we strive to keep this alive so that we can pass this to our children.
The India Cultural Society of Rockland has been passionately keeping the torch of Indian culture alive in the tri-state area since 1972. ICSR is instrumental in promoting Indian culture and heritage to local Indian and American community, through various events organized throughout the year.
The ICSR committee runs on the advice, time and energy provided by volunteers within the community. However nothing can be accomplished without your participation and monetary support. Your support will go a long way in helping ICSR achieve its mission as well as expand its programs and services.
