On This Day in History1848 – The U.S. Senate ratified the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, ending the war with Mexico.1876 – Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call. He said, “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you.” From New York, he called his assistant, Thomas Watson, who was in Chicago. 1941 – The Brooklyn Dodgers announced that their players would begin wearing batting helmets during the 1941 season.1971 – The U.S. Senate approved an amendment lowering the voting age to 18.
Jazz Band
Jazz band rehearses every Wednesday at
Prairie View from 4:00-5:15.
6th Grade Book ClubThe 6th grade “Breakfast and Book” club meets Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 8:00 am in Room 115.

St. Baldrick’s Spirit Week March 9th – March 13th
Monday - Don’t get lazy...there is still time to contribute to St. Baldricks. Wear your school appropriate pajamas.
Tuesday – Time to show your Patriot Pride for all of our brave Patriot shavees. Wear your Patriot spirit wear or red, white, and blue.
Wednesday – Let’s win the race against childhood cancer! Wear sweats or school appropriate workout attire.
Thursday – Rock the Bald! Wear clothes that represent your favorite band/musical artist.
Friday – Here we come to shave the day!! Dress as a superhero (no masks) or wear your St. Baldrick’s shirt to help support all of our shavees.
Pie-Eating ContestDo you want to see a Grissom teacher
compete in a pie-eating contest with no hands during our St. Baldrick’s assembly??
We will be collecting money through Thursday during lunches. Donate money to the teacher you want to see eat a pie! The
top three money-raisers will compete. Donate to see Mrs. Cesario, Mr. Hawrysio, Mrs. Korczyk, Mrs. Raslavicz, Mr. Fiore or
Mrs. Kaikini eat a pie!
PTO Hot LunchTomorrow is Hot Lunch! Please
remember to thank the parents serving you. Without them, there would be no
Hot Lunch program.
Student Council
Student Council members will meet
today after school in Room 111.
Changes to Band RehearsalsCadet Band members will NOT have rehearsal on Monday, March 16th and will not report to school
early! However, students who are in Jazz Lab Band with Mr. Hodges will meet Monday from 7:30-8:25
to rehearse jazz music for the concert. Regular Cadet Band rehearsals will resume on Wednesday, March 18th. Bus riders should go to their regularly assigned bus routes. Walkers should not arrive at
school before 8:30.

PE Assessment
The handball assessment is on Thursday, March 12th. Please bring your iPad to
class with you!
Practice!!The 6th/7th grade and 8th grade
Cheer/Dance teams, along with the 8th grade boys basketball team, will practice after school on Thursday, March 12th for the St. Baldrick’s
assembly. Be sure to have your ride here at 3:45! If you are a bus rider,
you can take the Activity Bus.

Boys Soccer Tryouts
Tryouts for all grades will be held today after school from 3:30-5:30. Please be prepared for both indoor
and outdoor tryouts!
Girls Soccer Tryouts
Second round girls soccer tryouts will be held Wednesday from 3:10-5:30. Be prepared to be
inside or outside.
Track TryoutsTrack tryouts will be held on
Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th from 3:15-4:30 for all
runners. Shot put and discus tryouts will be held on Thursday, March 19th
after school until 4:30. Permission slips are in the rack outside the Main
Office and are due Wednesday, March 11th. NO LATE FORMS WILL BE
ACCEPTED!!
Board Game/Chess ClubBoard Game/Chess Club meets every Wednesday after school in Room 221.

Ronald McDonald House CharitiesGrissom is once again collecting pop tabs to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities! The pop tabs are recycled and sold for scrap metal. Last year, Ronald McDonald House
Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana raised more than $40,000 from this program. There is a collection box on the bench outside
the Commons for your donations.
Student SupportBefore and after school Student
Support is offered from 8:00-8:35 am each morning, and from 3:10-
4:05 pm Monday through Thursday. You must arrive at the beginning of the session and stay for the whole
time!
*There is NO Student Support onFriday’s after school!
Water Bottle Filling Station Challenge
Last year, Grissom Patriots saved 14,316 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfills by using the
water bottle filling stations located throughout the building. So are this year, we have saved 13,670 plastic bottles from the
landfills!
