HOW IS EVERYONE HOLDING UP!? WE'VE HAD A MARATHON OF EVENTS ALREADY THIS SUMMER - AND IT'S NOT OVER YET!

AS I WRITE THIS, JANIS AND I HAVE JUST RETURNED FROM AN ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL WEEKEND AT MOUNT RAINIER HOSTED BY DAVE AND THEA WELLINGTON. EVERY ASPECT OF THE TRIP WAS WELL THOUGHT OUT AND THE WHOLE AFFAIR WENT OFF WITHOUT A HITCH - WELL ALMOST. SUNDAY MORNING'S TRIP FROM CRYSTAL MOUNTAIN TO PARADISE BROUGHT FORTH JUST ENOUGH RAIN TO MAKE A REAL ADVENTURE OF IT. AND WHEN WE ARRIVED AT PARADISE EVERYONE HUSTLED ABOUT PUTTING UP HOOD STICKS AND CANVAS. BY THE TIME THE MORGANS WERE "HOODED UP" THE RAIN WAS COMING DOWN QUITE FERVENTLY AND WE MADE A RAIN-SOAKED DASH FOR THE LODGE. IT WAS SOMETIME DURING THE .SERLJING OF THE INCREDIBLE BRUNCH THAT IT BECAME COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT THE WELLINGTONS HAD A CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR EVERYTHING EXCEPT ONE - THEY NEGLECTED TO PACK THE TOP FOR DL' RED & BLACK! JUST HOW WET WAS THE TRIP-- HOME, DAUE AND THEA!?

JUST IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T HEARD - KEN AND PAT McCLINTON HAVE FINISHED REPAIRS ON THEIR EXQUISITE '53 FLAT RAD AND JOINED US ON THE MOUNT RAINIER TRIP! I MUST SAY THAT GREEENE APPEARS TO BE EVEN MORE PERFECT THAN BEFORE THE DISASTROUS ACCIDENT IN ILWACO LAST YEAR. WHEN ANY OF YOU SEE KEN, ASK TO SEE THE PHOTOS OF THE REPAIR WORK - YOU WILL BE AMAZED AT THE SHEET METAL MIRACLES ACCOMPLISHED BY KEN AND MARK McCLINTON. CONGRATULATIONS, KEN AND PAT, FOR PUTTING A FINE MACHINE BACK ON THE ROAD!!

I'M SURE YOU ARE ALL AWARE THAT THERE ARE 3 EVENTS COMING UP IN QUICK SUCCESSION - THE MORRISON'S GREAT GATSBY PARTY IN JUST A COUPLE OF DAYS, FOLLOWED BY THE PORTLAND ALL BRITISH FIELD MEET, AND JUST ABOUT THE TIME YOU GET YOUR NEXT NEWSLETTER IT WILL BE TIME FOR THE 3RD QUARTER BUSINESS MEETING. SD IF YOU WAIT FOR THE SEPTEMBER MOGAZINE TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON IN SEPTEMBER - IT'S GOING TO BE TOO LATE! READ ALL ABOUT IT IN THIS ISSUE!

SEE YOU AT THE NEXT EVENT

MORGAN GO 'TO COL..L.EGE ; GRPiIDUATE W I 'TH HONOR E

The Seattle area's First Annual All-British Field Meet was held at Bellevue Community College over the July 22nd weekend, and went off with very few hitches. Ten Morgans were among the fine automobiles on display -- a small number, compared to other marques, but a respectable showing.

The MOG-NW members present commented very favorably on the weather (sunny, warm, nice breeze) the location (B.C.C. parking areas -- trees, grass, shade, nicely spread out) the organization (the MG people ran the event and did a super job) and the large number of Morgan enthusiasts we met. We should have several new members joining the Club as a result of contacts made, and we learned of several Morgans in Washington which even Bob Nelson didn't know about.

There were more Lotuses (Loti?) there than we'd ever seen, and their group had a nice display of how to build a Lotus from frame up; there were a whole flock of Bentleys and Rolls Royces, some wonderful touring cars; there was a Daimler limo which was a show-stopper; there were two Rileys; there was Jim Dietz's early MG (he has sold his blue flat rad Morgan); and there were LOTS of other MGs.

Mike Miles had sent the Club's Regalia supply to Bellevue and we sold nearly $400 worth -- see Jean MacNeil's report. The visors were a hit, as were the new sweatshirts. One young visitor bought a tee-shirt, much to her MG-owning father's disgust ("But Dad, I like it lots better than the MG ones!") There were calls for enameled pins, and full caps rather than visors, and short-sleeved shirts, but Hey! We did good.

The voting for People's Choice Best Morgan found Dave and Thea Wellington's 4/4 taking first place. Their son claims that voters are easily swayed by lots of shiny badges and little flags. But the car's color didn't hurt; I overheard many folks commenting on the lovely shade of wine. Hugh and Joan Rogers took second place with their ivory 4/4; it has a beautiful maroon interior. And Gil and Barbara Steger: captured third place with their beige and brown +4 drop head.

Jean MacNeil brought her white +8 across the bridge despite its cracked frame; Rod Ashton's shiny +4, Hal Meden's +4 DHC, and the Powley's 4-place 4/4 repre-sented the BRG crowd; Bob Nelson chose to bring his Black 4-place; and Mike Amos' 4/4 (yellow) and the Dice's +8 (red) provided some bright spots of color in the line-up.

Following the event, the Wellingtons ran another great party, this time at their normal place of residence on Lake Washington. Hamburgers, boat rides, ping pong, and beer. Red Hook! A whole keg! And Nancy's cherry pies! And cake! And apple pies! And salads! And more people! You shoulda been there!

-- Nancy Dice

BOB NELSON PASSED THIS CARD ON TO US FOR ADDITIONAL LODGING FOR THE ALL BRITISH FIELD MEET. THE MUMFORDS BED & BREAKFAST SOUNDS WONDERFUL!!!

MOG NORTHWEST SOUTH SOCIAL MEETING

On luly 18, just two days after the great Wellington Mountain caper, the southern group gathered at the Morse Brass Pub for its monthly social meeting. Although our numbers were unusually small (7), there was plenty of conversation and note comparing about the weekend at Mt. Rainier. Mike Miles had just received the new MOG fashion line for fall, so we were treated to a sneak preview.

Since there were so few of us, the conversation naturally gravitated toward what might be done to increase the southern groups participation. We all agreed that the meeting place appeared - to be the decisive factor on how many people choose to attend - either because of the pub's atmosphere or its physical location. With that in mind, on August 15 we will again meet at the Rock Creek Tavern where in the past year we have always had the best turn out. So jump in your Moggie (or any other form of transportation) and head for Rock Creek for some good food, drink and like-minded conversation.

Morgan Mountain Caper

Dave and Thea Wellington's Crystal Mountain Caper is now a part of Morgan history. But for those of us who gathered together for that glorious weekend, the memories will always remain.

Friday afternoon, Morgans began arriving in small groups and singly. New members Dave and Adele Erbeck from Marysville were there with a very original mid-fifties Plus 4 just out of long-term storage. Good to see these earlier cars getting out on the road again. Yeh, and speaking of on the road again, Green was there on the shake down run with Pat and Ken McClinton along for the ride. (Thanks to Mark McClinton's expertise and Wanda McClinton's patience.)

Dick and Nancy Dice, Glenn and Louis Jewitt, Ron and Arlene Weiskind, Dennis and Jacque Morrison plus Dave and Thea Wellington provided the local color.

The balance of Southerners made a mass arrival after dark, playing follow the leader, winding through the foothills of the Cascades. This group was made up by Bob and Janis Hauge, Henry and Wanda Stromquist, Dwight and Merideth Smith along with Roscoe and Linda Nelson who brought their shiny new Plus 8. Wow!

We all fell in love with the Wellington's Chipmunk Lodge. It was all that a log cabin in the forest primeval should be, and at times it became our haven and shelter from the occasionally encroaching weather elements.

On Saturday the sunset dinner at nearly 7,000 feet atop the Crystal Mountain summit actually took place in the middle of a cloud bank occupying that same altitude.

Our chairlift descent through the murk was punctuated with nervous laughter and UAL pilot Glenn Jewett thought it was probably worse than a final approach through the fog at Newark, NJ.

Those of you who have only heard Merideth Smith's dulcet voice should have heard her ringing command to the lift operator, "STOP THAT CHAIR!". also, contrary to her earlier predictions, Pat McClinton did not throw up on the descent.

A colorful trail of Morgans wound up towards Mt. Rainier's Sunrise side on Saturday morning and then up towards the Paradise side on Sunday for brunch. Wonderful roads and vistas. Simply spectacular!

I believe a Brit might describe it as a thoroughly splendid occasion. Thank you, Dave and Thea.
