The Pathway to Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship is no longer an entry level position.

All Pathway Positions filled from the Ranked Qualified Pool.

Lateral movement through PTA Craft positions by bid process.

Pathway Position into Apprenticeship by bid per CBA seniority language.

Training and Assessment: a part of all PTA Positions.

The Pathway to Apprenticeship

Labor/Management involvement: Interviews and Pathway Assessment.

Helpers/CFR/Leads/Meter testers hired prior to 1/1/10 - Electing to Enter the Pathway.

Apprentices will remain under the auspices of the JATC.

PTA Positions will be under the auspices of their craft’s LMTC.

Day-to-day administrative support by Training Group. Specific human resource issues supported by HR.

When are they due? 5 working days after the end of the month. Send the Original, Keep a Copy.

Who needs to sign them? Apprentice Journey Worker Supervisor

When do I send these in? Submit as completed to get credit for monthly report. Submit by the 5th work day of the next month.

NOTE: Apprentices who began their apprenticeships after 9/1/10 must complete all tasks.

Making up OJT Hours

Rules for making up lost OJT hours: Lost OJT due to illness or injury. More than 174 hours in any period (6 months) must be

made up. More than 260 hours in any two adjacent periods must

be made up. More than 522 hours in a 3-year apprenticeship

(Meter) must be made up. More than 696 hours in a 4-year apprenticeship (Wire,

CT, Hydro) must be made up. Absences of lesser duration which affect the

apprentice’s progress may extend the apprenticeship if deemed necessary by the JATC.

Do I have to go to Apprentice school? Yes. Excused Absences: Illness/Emergencies

What is an Emergency? 1 Unexcused absence

Frozen pay rate until work is made up. Meet with LJATC and/or JATC

2 Unexcused absences Frozen pay rate. At JATC discretion meet with JATC.

What’s the worse that can happen? Removed from apprenticeship Program.

Making-up RSI Hours

Wire Apprentices must complete Climbing School When? Prior to starting their 3rd Period.

Apprenticeship: Status is Suspended.

Result – Missed time will be added to scheduled end of Apprenticeship.

Does PTO suspend status? No – PTO does not extend length of service.

Monthly OJT Expectations 167 OJT hours per month PTO does not count as OJT.
