Dear Onslow Community Ministries Supporter,

I would personally like to thank each and every one of you

who have supported Onslow Community Ministries. We had over

2,000 volunteers last year and received countless donations of food,

toys and dollars.

In 2007, we once again experienced an increase in demand for

our services. The homeless shelter usage was up by 31%, the clinic

services was up by 70% and the Soup Kitchen served over 100,000

meals which was a 2% increase. While the demand for our programs

continues to grow, our funding has not. 2007 was a very challenging

funding year with a $76,000 reduction in grant income. Despite cut

backs and the elimination of our administrative assistant position, the

Ministries had a $42,000 loss in 2007.

We are taking additional steps this year to try to increase our

income. We appreciate whatever support you can offer. Thank you

so much for your support and generosity.

Warmest Regards,

Sandra Wyrick

Executive Director

Chanya is the mother of six children ages 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 and recently her husband was injured on the job. Expenses have been mounting and if it wasn’t for the Christmas Cheer program, her family would

IN 2007 …

• 100,233 meals served in 2007 (2% increase)

• New Soup Kitchen truck was donated

• A nationwide peanut butter recall caused us to discard tons of peanut butter, but the gracious community of Onslow County pulled together and kept our sandwiches going.

• We had to decrease the number of routes driven due to the increasing cost of gasoline

• 500 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are made daily (requiring 32 pounds of peanut butter and 40 pounds of jelly)

• Soup Kitchen trucks drove 29,000 miles (costing approximately $6,700 for gasoline)

• 1,000 meals were served at Thanksgiving and Christmas

• 17,263 volunteer hours were clocked at the Soup Kitchen, an $89,000 value

Darryl Graham in Maple Hill

Mr. Darryl Graham lives in Maple Hill and helps to take care of his diabetic mother. Every day, Daryl rides his bicycle one mile each way to meet the Soup Kitchen truck which visits his area. He is extremely grateful and appreciative of the food supplied to his family because of the Soup Kitchen. Daryl stated that this food has helped his mother to eat better and to assist in keeping her diabetes under control.

Thank You for our new Soup Kitchen Truck:

On Friday, June 22nd, thanks to the generosity of Mike Alford and

Marine Chevrolet and the Rotary Clubs of Jacksonville, Sneads Ferry

and Richlands, the Soup Kitchen was handed the keys to a brand new

truck. We would like to thank all involved with making this happen, especially John Rouse of Wachovia for coordinating the fundraising effort.

Caring Community Clinic

IN 2007 …

• 1,609 patients in 2007 (70% increase)

• 5,124 free prescriptions, a $600,000 value

• 1,037 Volunteer hours, a $31,175 value

• Implemented an appointment scheduling system, which eliminated

the need for patients to line up 3 hours before the providers arrived

• Turned away an average of 40 patients per week

Caren Appreciates the Clinic

When Caren moved to North Carolina, she discovered that she was not going to have medical insurance. In Georgia, Caren qualified for a special program which provided her medical coverage, this program does not exist in North Carolina. Caren is diabetic and has high blood pressure. She requires regular check-ups and expensive medicine.

If it wasn’t for the Caring Community Clinic, Caren would have to go without this much needed medicine. The Caring Community Clinic has changed Caren’s life.
