INCEPTION The IISU grew out of the International College for Girls (ICG) which was established in 1995, as a college affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. Since then, ICG has crossed many significant milestones in its journey towards excellence in higher education. Besides receiving numerous other accolades, it was accredited A+ by the NAAC of UGC in 2005. It was also identified as a Model College by the state government and recognized as a College with Potential for Excellence (CPE) by the UGC in 2010. In a national survey conducted by AC-Nielsen-ORG MARG, also in 2010 for the India Today magazine, ICG was rated as the top college in the state in Arts, Science and Commerce streams. Ranked among the top 30 institutions of the country in this survey, the College became a symbol of quality education and women’s empowerment. The institution was then declared a Deemed-to-be-a- University by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. This, more than an achievement, is a reaffirmation of our faith in the quality of innovation, research and academics taken up at the institution. Soon after, in a review by the Tandon Committee constituted by the MHRD, the University was recognized for its competence and strength and placed amongst the first 38 Deemed-to-be-Universities, in Category 1. This has accorded IISU greater reliability and credibility for creating a unique opportunity to explore and put in place what is needed to empower its students through the three Es -Efficiency, Excellence and Effectiveness. Thus, from a visionary beginning in 1995, IISU is now moving on to new heights as a digitally smart campus with contemporary and relevant programmes and e-learning systems. Alongside its rapid growth and development, the University retains a friendliness and warmth which has characterized the institution from its early days. With over 4000 students and more than 300 faculty and staff members, it offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral programmes in Arts, Visual Arts, Science, Home Science, Social Sciences, Computer Science and IT, Commerce and Management. A multidisciplinary University, its curriculum requires both breadth of learning and in-depth knowledge and prepares its graduates to be problem- solvers, communicators and ethical citizens of a global community. ADMINISTRATION The Administrative body of the IIS University is an integral part of it and plays an important role in the fulfillment of its goals and objectives in an effective manner. beoming there were answers like doctor, engineers, lawyers and so on. He further queried what about those who usually get married by age 16 and then engaged in household work? What about those who don’t have a proper standard of living. Quoted with examples. During menstruation no facility no space, no management as compared to boy who are being asked for food, shelter, earn for the family, make home for family. Searching job 100 kms far for 16-18 hrs to earn money for family welfare.Amartya Sen discussed for empathy. From every corner of the world there is response to empathy but why in India, in our community, in our nearby we see injustice, inequality... why is it always there... why is there no change in mind-set of people for inequality and injustice. There are people who fulfill their hunger searching wheat grains in cow dung, just to satisfy hunger... and sleep in hunger... hunger for food has been a common problem... actions should be claimed to overcome it Prem with his family sahirya family. He gave his example about empathy. 2 years back in Delhi when gang rap took place ofdamini on 16 Dec. There were almost each and every person from every side of the corner... but in India exclusion report... in Kashmir puspara village in 1994, almost 20 years back all males were sent out of house and 100 women were raped and not even one apology. He cited another example about a girl who lives 1km far from your house without any food, shelter... born at roadside near trash... who in severe cold sleeps on the road with any blanket hoping that no one rapes her.. Then he further took the interaction by showing video on “gaonchobannahinn”(will not leave village). Premseharia, faced problem to give his introduction. His father and mother used to get up early and work so he could study as Prem scored 71% in 12th..Then another picture recording a visual of Rajasthan where 12 children died just because of poor medical facility, no money, without proper upkeep. One more tragedy taken place atGodhara on 27 Feb, 2002 associated with Sabrmati express Gujarat in 7.30 am where mobs came to kill. Muslims girls were raped. Muslims who are innocent being jailed without any cause. Its impact on people was discussed. . A girl came from Agrasen college spoke about her problem. She wants to study but her parents didn’t allow, studied Urdu. Muslim being painted every time... discussion on it was going then a boy question that this is not true our president was also Muslim. Discrimination done by people living in rural areas was discussed, how were they denied to give wages, no id card, no entry 63 people living in one household. Later Shri SharadTripathy –blind person –profession at amity. Suffering from retinoic denigrate... in his childhood used to play cricket but now due to disability cannot. Gave few examples about his struggles - how he was not informed about the disability certificate and for issuing his certificate. Conclusion: The role of young person, ensuring equitable access to public goods. And no one

should discriminate others. We should choose some step to overcome the problem and facilitate each other... There are people who are poorly quantified... and due to in quality they suffer more... students from diverse colleges and school were part of it. The event was organized by the past student ofKanoriaMs. Kavita Srivastava On 50th anniversary of KanoriaMahavidhayala. JANUARY 2015

VISIT TO BADARWAS BASTI 10 January 2015

Unit II of the NSS wing of the IIS University went to the Badarwasbasti, accompanied by Ms. Shilpi Sharma of the Commerce Department, who is also a NSS Faculty. Half the students went to the Badarwas Primary School and the remaining half went to the Basti. The volunteers had an eye opening experience in the Basti, witnessing their living places and conditions. The basti is inhabited by the landless Banjara tribes who have been dwelling on the government land for a long time. They told us that the JDA had come there one day and had forced many people to move from that place. As JDA had been threatening the people regularly, they would soon have to search for another place. The Government planned to build a bus stand on the land. Their children will not be able to go school if they had to shift to another area. Not surprisingly, the people also did not follow any family planning. They are of the opinion that they need sons to take care of them in future. NSS volunteers told them that their actions would create problems in the form of unemployment, food scarcity and poor health of the women. The volunteers discussed with the people, mostly women, about the importance of health, sanitation, education, hygiene etc. Then the volunteers told kids they should wear foot wears, have regular bath and should study. Overall it was an enriching experience for NSS volunteers to learn about deplorable existence of landless tribes.

GUEST LECTURE ON SCOPE OF EXTENSION ACTIVITIES By Mr. Deepak Sachdeva

7 February, 2015

The NSS Units of The IIS University organized a Guest Lecture by Mr. Deepak Sachdeva, from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. In an interactive session, he shared that NSS is not just about getting certificates but it is also a tool of personality development. When he asked the students how they could improve their personalities through NSS work, NSS volunteer AbhilashaSaxena replied that NSS provides an opportunity to work for people which enhances their thinking process. Being the convener of the Extension activities of the IIS University, Deepak Sir has received proposals of various activities from the Home Science Department for organizing Diabetics Check up Camp in the nearby community centre. He shared that Students of American Universities from the West take up social service as part of their curriculum. He asserted that genuine participation is must for NSS and that our system is bookish wherein the students learn before the exams, write in down in the exam and then forget it. But this is not what education means. There has to be an understanding of everything and it’s connection with real life. He also told us about other extension activities taken by Symbiosis Institute like Water Harvesting Plans, Cleaning the allotted areas, Organizing Awareness Camps, Family Welfare and Planning Camps, Camps about HIV awareness etc. It was an enriching session on enhancing the perspectives about NSS activities.

TEACHING CLASSES IN DADABARI BASTI Experience sharing by AbhilashaSaxena

26-05-14 This was my first day in the GyanVidhyaMandir School of the Dada Bari Kacchi

Basti. I along with one more NSS volunteer Seema taught the students of First class. First of all we divided the students. Some students were taken by Seema while I took some students. My students were Pintu, Shahid, Zyed, Aslam, Itihas and Chandra Shakher. First of all I asked all the students to write the alphabet in small letters. I also wrote them on the board and corrected the students wherever they committed the mistakes. Zyed could not write the alphabets so I gave him the Homework. Almost all the students could not the alphabets correctly. After this I asked the

Page 62: Annual Report 2014- -2015 FINAL · Ms. Jyotika Sachdeva Placement Officer Ms. Shivi Saxena Statutory Bodies and Committees The following statutory bodies have been constituted, as

students to write some words such as Tiger, Elephant, and Horse etc to see that whether they are able to write correct words. But I found out that they were not able to make proper letters so I went to the students’ individually and checked their copies and made them write those words again. I also made them learn some spellings. The students were attentive in my class but some of them were annoying also and I had to shout on them again and again so as to make them quiet. I really enjoyed my first day in the Basti very much and it gave me satisfaction. I was also to befriend with all those students and they showed interest in whatever I taught them. 27-05-14 It was my second day for teaching the students of the Basti and I was really very excited since morning to go and meet my students there. As soon as I entered I class the students of the class became very happy. I made the students of my group sit at one place. Today there were two more students Kishan and Anish. I taught them English only. I made them write the names of the fruits which I wrote on the board and then the students wrote in their copies. Then I checked the copies of the students and corrected wherever the students made mistakes. Then I asked the students to stand one by one and tell the names of the animals. The students spoke the names of the animals and spelt them which I wrote on the board and asked the students to write it in their copies. I also made Zyed and Kishan write the alphabets in small letters. Then I asked the students to write the tables of 8 and 9 which they wrote in their copies correctly. Then I made the students write the names of the months and made them learn their spellings. The students were really enthusiastic about learning whatever was given to them. It was a really wonderful day for me today. I really enjoyed the work today. 28-05-14 My Third day with the students of the GyanVidhyaMandir was really amazing. As soon as I entered the school the students were having their breakfast in the school premises so they entered the class after some time. As they entered the class they greeted me Good Morning. Then I checked their nails and asked all those students who had big nails to get their nails cut. Then I taught the students the names of the months and their spellings. I made the students repeat the spellings after me and then I asked the spellings from every student. I made some students to revise the spellings. The students were excited to learn the spellings and all of them learnt the spellings. Then I also made the students dance at the end of the class. I called all the students to come forward and played the songs that they liked. The students demanded the songs such as Lungi dance, Party All Night, Sunny Sunny etc. I played all those songs for the students which the students enjoyed very much. Then I asked the students to make paintings. The students came on the board and made different drawings on the board. However due to paucity of time I could not give much time to the students. But I enjoyed a lot with the students. 29-05-14 I was waiting for going to the Basti since yesterday and as I woke up in the morning

today I decided as to what I would be teaching the students. As soon as I reached the School after making the entry I rushed to my class. The students of my class wished me by saying Namaste. Then I asked the students whether they had learnt their homework as yesterday I had asked them to learn the names of all the months of the year with their spellings. To my dismay, the students did not learn the homework. So I then moved on to different work. First of all I asked the students to tell the names of the fruits one by one. The first 3 students could tell the names of only

Page 63: Annual Report 2014- -2015 FINAL · Ms. Jyotika Sachdeva Placement Officer Ms. Shivi Saxena Statutory Bodies and Committees The following statutory bodies have been constituted, as

Apple, Mango, Banana, Papaya and Grapes. The rest of the students could not name any fruits. So I wrote the names of the fruits on the board and made them learn it. Then I made the students repeat them. After that I asked the students to tell the names of the fruits one by one but the students could not tell it. So I called the students to come and make other students revise the same. In this process I was frequently asking the students whether they had learnt the names of the fruits or not but they could not tell me the names of all the fruits except Apple, Mango, Banana, Papaya etc. So I continued with their revision work. In this process only their class got over. So I gave them the homework to learn the names of all the fruits and promised them that if would learn it then I would make them play games the next day. My experience with these students was amazing as usual. 30-05-14 Today was my second last day in the school and I decided to make the day full of fun for the students. Today was the day full of enjoyment. First of all I call the students one by one to recite the poems. All the students were very enthusiastic so each of them came forward and recited the poems. I appreciated them by giving toffees to each of the students. After this I asked the students to make drawings. The students were very excited on this. I made scenery on the board and I promised the students that whosoever would make the most beautiful painting would be rewarded. Then the students made beautiful drawings in their copy. After this I made the students play games such as RingaRingaRinga Roses etc. The students were very excited at this and they all played with great enthusiasm. The day was full of fun both for me and the students.

LITERACY PROJECT KALYANPURA SECONDARY GOVERNMENT SCHOOL

Around 40 students went to the government school (for 6 days 1 hour per day) of this basti to celebrate the literacy week with them. It was my first experience of teaching, and I didn't expect that it could teach so much! The satisfaction of giving and the feel of imparting knowledge was wonderful.

The week's report is as follows: Monday - Rapport building was my motive today. Familiarization with the students, their teachers and the newly assigned principal was done. Also, in the short duration, I managed to tell students of grade 5 about plural and singular words in English.

Tuesday - The students this morning were lined up in the small area for morning assembly. After which I talked to the teachers and students on general daily topics.

Wednesday - I started teaching a new class today, i.e. class 7. I asked the students in which subject do they need help and so explained various principles of Math to them.

The students complained to me about their teachers not bothering enough to explain the logic behind problems of Math.

Thursday - I took the same class today as yesterday. Teaching the students rational numbers and number line.

Friday - I completed yesterday's topic in Math. And taught them the logic behind linear equations in Math. The students and I grew so attached to each other in just 5 days, that they made me promise to come teach them whenever I had time. I promised and got a bunch of wild flowers in return!

Saturday - Today we celebrated 'National Unity Day' in the school. 5 girls including me gave a collective speech in the morning assembly on the importance of unity and universal brotherhood and on the Iron Man of India, Mr. SardarVallabhbhai Patel. Posters, story telling and Oath taking ceremony was also done by us. Importance of cleanliness and the general hygiene conditions were also discussed. Also after going to our respective classes, I taught the 7th graders some drawing techniques.

This week has been an amazing experience. And, I am looking forward to more such weeks!

SPORTS ACTIVITIES

“Champions are not made in Gyms. Champions are made from something they have

deep inside them – a desire, a dream, a passion, a vision.”

Gain a passion for sports, love the morning, love the environment, love playing and

in no time you will love your life even more and enjoy to the utmost. Set your goal

high and don’t stop till you get there. Gold medals are not really made of gold; they

are made of sweat, determination, hard work and guts.

Sports teach you that, it is good to compete, run & sweat and good to get dirty, feel

tired, healthy & refreshed.

The IIS University, a leading institute in women education, has not only provided its

students quality education, but also a platform to prove themselves and carve a

niche in this highly competitive world.

Yoga is a healing system of theory and practice. The purpose of yoga is to create

strength, awareness and harmony in both mind and body. The relaxation techniques

incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis,

headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome. Yoga can also lower blood pressure and

reduce insomnia. It increases flexibility, muscle strength and tone, respiration,

energy and vitality and weight reduction with improved athletic performance. Stress

can reveal itself in many ways, including back or neck pain, sleeping problems,

headaches, drug abuse and an inability to concentrate. Hence, aside from the array

of physical benefits, one of the best benefits of yoga is that it manages stress. For

such well being promotion, the university also offers Yoga courses for students and

faculty members every year. The Certificate course in Yoga (60 hrs.) is running in the

University campus at present.
