ANNUAL REPORT 2015 MONTREUX JAZZ ARTISTS FOUNDATION
The Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation (MJAF) is the educational wing of the Montreux Jazz Festival. This registered not-for-profit foundation was born of the desire to discover new talents, to encourage cultural exchanges, and to create a forum dedicated to encounters between artists and the public. On the one hand, it is a refuge for the legendary musicians who have been drawn to it since the very beginning to share their experiences through workshops. On the other hand, it is an amplifier for voices that are just starting to make themselves heard, and a true cocoon in which the talents of tomorrow are nurtured. The MJAF is continuing to organize its famous voice, guitar, and solo piano competitions and the creations, both intimate and spectacular, during the month of July, while also intensifying efforts at creating ties by supporting talented young artists throughout the year. The Montreux Jazz Academy, a project designed to guide young talents as they launch their professional careers, is the most eloquent expression of the latest endeavors of the MJAF.

EDITORIAL
Stéphanie-Aloysia MorettiArtistic Direction
Each autumn it is a real pleasure to look back at the Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation’s activities over the past year. For the second year in a row, this pleasure has been doubled by that of organizing the Montreux Jazz Academy, which transforms Montreux into a hothouse for young musicians from the four corners of the world. The top finishers in our Montreux Jazz Competitions (solo piano, guitar, and voice), after receiving accolades in July, return to work with charismatic mentors. They put on a concert that showcases the renewal of jazz in all its geographical diversity, emblematic of a world undergoing rapid change. A spirit of openness to discoveries, adventures, and encounters drives our Foundation, and has been one of the core values at our Festival which, since the 1970s, has featured workshops, competitions, and special projects. Our continued exploration of musical universes is in our DNA. Once again this year I was committed to encouraging exchanges between musicians from near and far and between instrumentalists and gadgeteers, to bringing jazz into churches, and more, all with the goals of providing spaces for freedom and experimentation to the musicians and satisfying the curiosity of the public. This exploration wouldn’t be so gratifying if we couldn’t count on you, so the entire Montreux Jazz Artists Foundation team wishes to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your enthusiasm and support. It is our hope that you will take pleasure in thinking back on some of the wonderful moments you spent in Montreux, and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
