Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Thank you for your generous support of Catholic school education in the Diocese of Kalamazoo!

Our exceptional students are the leaders of tomorrow who will

change the world. As I visit our schools and celebrate the Mass with our students, I get to see firsthand just how well we are preparing our students to spread the good news and live their faith with courage of conviction and joy.

Pope Francis, who captivated a nation with his first historic trip to the United States just this past September, continues to inspire us with his wisdom. During his recent trip he said,

“Jesus keeps knocking on our doors, the doors of our lives. He doesn’t do this by magic, with special effects, with flashing lights and fireworks. Jesus keeps knocking on our door in the faces of our brothers and sisters, in the faces of our neighbors, in the faces of those at our side.”

Our school communities, including our dedicated clergy, administrators, teachers, staff and parents, become the face of Jesus as our Holy Father so beautifully describes.

thank youTHE D IOCESE OF KALAMAZOO, OFF ICE OF THE B ISHOP

Whether it’s through their commitment to academic excellence or through countless hours of service, our students are being formed on their faith-filled journey to be the inspirational leaders of tomorrow.

Please be assured of my continual prayers for you and all those in our Catholic school families. May our schools thrive for generations to come.

Faithfully yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Paul J. BradleyBishop of Kalamazoo

The Kalamazoo Regional Catholic Schools Foundation (KRCSF) recently approved the combination and change of the name of two funds, at the direction of long-time Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo supporters Dr. Edward and Mrs. Betty Hartmann.

The Barbara Cooley Learning Differences Fund was established by Dr. and Mrs. Hartmann in 2004. Their son, Mark, benefited from multi-sensory, phonetic teaching methods while at Hackett Catholic Prep under Barbara Cooley’s direction, where she emphasized developing self-confidence and self-advocacy. In June of 2015, the request was made to combine the balance of the Hartmann Fund (established in 2011 in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Hartmann) with the Cooley Learning Differences

Fund. The Kalamazoo Regional Catholic Schools Foundation Board approved their request at the August 2015 meeting.

The revised fund will provide continued assistance to Hackett Catholic Prep students who have learning differences and faculty training in multi-sensory teaching methods and teaching aides. Additionally, in a given year, a stipend from this fund can be used toward books and fees for a special needs student.

KRCSF and CSGK are grateful for the continued financial support of Dr. and Mrs. Hartmann and their continued interest in the success of our students. Through their generosity and experience, they leave a lasting legacy that will impact our students for generations to come.

It was one anonymous donor’s benevolence and pride in the Hackett Catholic Prep band program that fueled a successful $20,000 fundraising campaign in 2014-15 to replace the uniforms that had been worn by Irish marchers for over 30 years.

After receiving a $3,000 matching grant from the donor, the Hackett band director, members and boosters teamed with the CSGK Advancement Office and Hackett principal to swiftly meet the challenge. We are grateful to all of the parents, families, alumni and friends of the school who helped our marching band members look as magnificent as they sound!

In 2014, St. Augustine Cathedral School, St. Augustine Cathedral Parish and the Diocese of Kalamazoo embarked on a multi-year collaboration on their shared campus: The Community Anchor Project—Love Thy Neighbor. With a goal to significantly increase green space and add enhanced recreational opportunities extending to and benefiting their neighbors in downtown Kalamazoo, the project is nearing completion thanks to the generous support of school, parish, community and diocesan donors, foundations, and corporate partners including those listed below.

While cash is the most frequent gift, Catholic Schools of Greater Kalamazoo accepts gifts of stock, bonds, mutual funds, property, life insurance, donations through United Way and estate gifts. In addition, MBE trade dollars, furniture and equipment, building materials and professional services are welcome.

Planned giving affords CSGK the opportunity to plan and operate programs, activities and facilities well into the future. A carefully planned gift can provide immediate income and tax benefits for you and a lasting gift to Catholic schools. Charitable gift annuities guarantee you income for life while providing an immediate benefit to our schools. Setting aside a gift in your will can sustain Catholic education for future generations.
