Annual Report
2017
“Everyone
deserves to
age with dignity
in the community
of their choice.”
President’s Statement
One.
One rider on the Hastings LOOP relies upon us for respite care. His story propelled us to innovate ways to use our buses to provide respite and combat isolation. 25 people toured fall colors; 85 people toured holiday lights. In 2018, rides will mimic Memory Cafes and help those with memory loss. 1 grew to 100.
One Care Coordinator supports six Community Development Agency senior buildings. Since October, she has helped over 200 residents find the services they need to safely live on their own. 1 became 200.
One organization, two social workers, and 30 caregiver events supported and educated over 300 people. 1 touches 300.
One Volunteer Manager recruited volunteers to help over 100 people with yardwork. Nearly 700 people responded to the call and 800 connections were made. 1 blossomed to 800.
One person needed a ride in the 1970’s. This year, we pro-vided over 12,000 rides so that 12,000 family members could skip a trip. One is now 24,000.
“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened.” – Buddha
Everyone deserves to age with dignity in the community of their choice.
When you tell DARTS stories, when you volunteer your time, when you give, you are a candle igniting so many more. Thank you. You are the connections that enrich aging.
One becomes Every One.

DARTS’roots are in
transportation.My mom using
DARTS fortransportation
is how I became involved. It is exciting
to see how we are using our history to transform
the ways we deliver social services. Seniors want to stay
engaged in the community. Providing rides and social
connections help them achieve that goal.

LOOKING AHEAD: THE FACTS*
We are using our buses to provide innovative programs for people living alone. Outings for those needing respite care and their care partners received 100% positive feedback, and will therefore be extended into 2018.
LOOKING AHEAD: TAKING ACTION
Communities are striving to be Dementia Friendly and DARTS staff will be 100% certified in 2018. We will bring Dementia Friend curriculum to middle school Learning Buddies classrooms. We are modifying the popular LOOP circulator ride concept to help those with memory loss complete everyday errands.
To serve more people and adapt to the changing workforce, we are expanding partnerships with ProAct, Inc. and others.
Supportive services at senior buildings help people save money by living independently longer. We are extending the model we have with Dakota County Community Development Agency and South St. Paul HRA buildings.
We provide corporate education sessions to help employees find resources, have vital conversations with their parents and manage being a working caregiver.
33% of seniors live alone. Isolation is as detrimental to health assmoking 15 cigarettes per day.
“Everyone deserves to age with dignity in the community of their choice.”
91% of clients say DARTS helps them remain in their own home.
7% of Minnesota seniors live in poverty. 9% of the homeless population are over 55.
87% of adults over age 65 want to live at home.
36% of all caregivers will assist someone with memory loss.
*Statistics courtesy of AARP, United Health Foundation, and DARTS client satisfaction survey.
We are increasing our social media conversations and electronic communications to reach more people. Email [email protected] to get on the list.
