On March 31, 2000, Antwerp Management School wasestablished as an independent entity within the University
o Antwerp (UA). All postgraduate management programs
and business management master programs in the UA were
transerred to Antwerp Management School.
Because o the close collaboration with the Faculty o
Management and Economics, and that o Political and Social
Sciences, Antwerp Management School has many advantages
as a university management school providing high quality
management programs. The UA and its aculties have a solid
reputation at home and abroad, and they participate in many
national and international research and educational projects.
Education at Antwerp Management School
Theoretical courses with hands-on learning
Antwerp Management School oers two types o educational
programs: master and executive programs. The wide range o
courses combine scientic accuracy with a hands-on approach.
Managers with divergent educational backgrounds and work
experience can take introductory, reresher or advanced
programs.
There are twelve master programs and more than sixty short
or long-term executive programs on a variety o subjects.In every eld, they are also set up or organizations in the
public and social prot sectors. All programs are designed
to take account o the participants needs and demands.
By regularly reviewing course content and assessing students
needs, the School ensures continual innovation at the highest
level o quality.
Master programs
A master program is a long-term curriculum intended or
present and uture managers. The programs last at least
ten months and at most two years some can be taken ull
time, others part time. Antwerp Management School awards
legally recognized master degrees in management, human
resource management, MBA, global management, nance,
innovation & entrepreneurship management and 3continent
global management, among others.

nManagerial Decision Making
The primary objective o this course is to experience the
possibilities, limitations and traps o quantitative methodsand how to make use o them in managerial decision
making. Emphasis is put on the way these methods can
be helpul to a manager as an aid to decision making.
Participants will experience this aspect o quantitative
methods by examining and discussing a number o small
scale applications inspired by real lie situations. Ater
completing the course, participants will know how to build
a model, to choose the appropriate technique, and to assess
the results obtained in order to analyze and solve a problem.
The mathematical oundations are treated up to the level
needed to understand the applicability/ inapplicability o
quantitative methods. They are only relevant as background
inormation and are not the main subject o the course.
nAccounting
The objective o this course is to help students develop a
ramework or understanding corporate nancial reports.
We will address basic accounting questions that should help
them identiy situations where there is a correct answer rom
those where judgement is required. This course provides only
an overview o nancial reporting. It deals with accounting
concepts that students should be amiliar with as users o
nancial reports, and highlights some o the challenges
related to nancial reporting. In a second part, ocus will
be on the use o accounting data or internal planning andcontrol. Emphasis will be on cost accounting, budgeting and
resource allocation, perormance assessment, ratio analysis
and assessment o nancing needs. Management cannot be
eective without an appropriate approach to management
control, and perormance measurement is at the core o any
control system. The course will ocus on the use and role
o inormation, control and organizational structure, design
o standards and systems or measuring perormances and
management control systems.

Management and OrganizationThis course oers an introduction into general management
and organization theory and gives insights into organizational
structures and processes, managerial decision-making
processes, organizational culture and power phenomena
in organizations and the impact o the environment on
organizations.
The course aims to create awareness o the many dierent
viewpoints or perspectives through which organizations
can be analyzed. It provides the student with a systematic,
critical understanding o organizational theory and practice.
The case method will be used to illustrate theoretical insights
and models. Most o the sessions will start by discussing acase, so students are expected to have read the case studies
thoroughly beore each session.
nEconomic Analysis
This course is an introduction to some major market
principles. Focus in the rst part will be on microeconomics
with an explanation o some key terms and subjects related
to supply and demand on the market and orces leading to
determination o the market price. Subsequently, we will go
into greater detail on dierent aspects o the circular fow
o economic activity, beginning with households, which are
the consuming units (demand in output markets and supply
on input markets). Next the ocus will switch to rms on the
supply side o the market, and more specically to the rms
costs, revenue, prot, objectives and behavior in the market
given the market structure. In the last part, we will consider
market imperections and the role o government.

nMarketing Management
Marketing pertains to the set o activities that try to establish
mutually benecial exchanges. These exchanges can takethe orm o purchases and sales, entailing monetary or
non-monetary (emotional or other) compensation. Further,
depending on the type o part ies involved, a distinction is
made between B to B and B to C marketing contexts, so
consumer behavior can be studied in a business context
(business marketing) or in relation to the end consumer
(consumer marketing). Marketing analyzes the context
(culture, demography, environment), and individual behavior
patterns (evaluation, choice, habit) and their impact on
consumption and marketing strategy. In this course, we ocus
on general marketing principles and the basic mechanisms
that determine consumer reactions. We try to give studentsa eeling or the nature o marketing management using the
business game Markstrat3.
nDevelopment o Personal Management Talent
Personal growth and development is o high signicance in
a continuously changing society. A strong awareness o the
possible impacts o your actions on your colleagues and on
the world around you is equally important.
This course aims or an in-depth development o basic skills
and attitudes in order or students to develop authenticity.
This is crucial or any individual to unction well in an
organizational (and social) setting.
In this course the emphasis is put on:
1. gaining insights into your own potential and ta lents.
2. gaining insights into how you unction individually and
within a team.
3. learning how to apply these insights into a proessional
context.
4. understanding the conceptual ramework and the
underlying connections o the development o
management talent.
nManaging people in a Global Context
This course combines various disciplines dealing with the
human aspects o organizations. Emphasis is on managemento human resources in an organizational context. To ully
understand the impact o the dierent HR practices, we
will introduce the course with some general notions on
motivation, leadership and culture. The main disciplines
we will use are Organizational Behavior, Human Resource
Management and Change Management.
nFinancial Management
The student will learn a ramework, concepts and tools
or analyzing nancial decisions. Topics covered include
discounted cash fow analysis, investment analysis, capital
budgeting, cost o capital, capital structure, dividend policy,valuation and capital asset pricing, valuation o nancial
and real options, and short-term nancial management and
planning.
nGlobal Strategic Management
The Strategic Management course aims to provide
participants with a broader understanding o strategic issues
in organizations. It ocuses on the content o strategy and
on how a strategy is deve loped. A problem-based approach
to theoretical concepts will be used. The course proposes
a consultancy perspective to strategy and strategic
management problems. Participants must (try to) apply the
theoretical concepts discussed in the sessions, both within aspecic industry and in dierent case study situations.

nBusiness in the European Union
Regional trade groups and economic integration increasingly
determine world trade and business. The European Union (EU) isno doubt one o the oldest, largest and most success-ul examples
o economic integration. A solid insight into the economic and
business aspects o the EU not only helps to understand the
business environment in the EU, but also provides insight into
integration areas like NAFTA, MERCOSUR, ASEAN, SACU and
many other regional trade arrangements. The course will introduce
students to the principles and the unctioning o the EU. Special
attention is given to basic EU economic policies, and how these
infuence and determine business opportunities and strategies
in the EU. Students must realize that the European market is
characterized by intense competition, which provides urther
motivation or European rms to improve both their eciency.nAsian Economic and Business Environment
The course starts with the strategic importance o Asia rom an
economic and business perspective, as assessed by major
indicators. These include indicators on the macro-economic
situation, international competitiveness, the prevalence o
corruption, cultural dierences, etc. Regional economic integration
in Asia is discussed, and selected Asian countries are reviewed in
terms o historical as well as recent political, social and economic
developments. International trade and oreign investment patterns
o Asian regional groupings and selected Asian countries are
discussed, and special attention is devoted to eligibility under the
EUs Generalized System o Preerences, and to EU trade policies
with regard to Asia (e.g. anti-dumping policies). Next, an in-
depth analysis and comparison o major business players in Asia
is conducted. Some examples are the Japanese keiretsu and sogo
soshas, the South Korean chaebol, government-linked and state-
owned companies and ormer colonial trading houses.
Finally, the major distribution systems are reviewed in selected
Asian countries, together with alternative sources o business
intelligence.
MasterofGlobalManagement
The international business project will challenge
you to apply the knowledge and skills acquired
during the year to a concrete management
project, carried out either within a company or
as a comprehensive research paper with practical
applications. The content is closely related to
the ocus o the master o Global Management
program: international business.
In the course o the academic year, interactive
seminars and a variety o workshops, team
assignments, business games, etc. will lay
the oundation or in-depth knowledge and
understanding o the global economy. Moreover,
a number o workshops aimed at developing
essential management skills will help you carry
out your international project successully.
These workshops will ocus on your personal
development by creating sel awareness
and critical refection, communication and
presentation skills as well as teamwork skills.
Being able to deal with diversity is crucial when
working in an international environment.
Finally, general management skills such us
international contract negotiation and leadership
will prepare or day-to-day unctioning in global
positions. All o these are an integral part o your
curriculum and an intensive preparation or yournal project.

Admission & Selection
Admission requirements
Candidates or the master o Global Management must have:
na university degree
This degree can be in any specialization, but it must be
awarded by an ocially recognized institution. It should
represent our years o ull-time study at university level,
resulting in a masters degree or an equivalent bachelors
degree (a ull time, 4-year curriculum, excluding orientation
or preparatory years).
It is possible to apply beore you have completed your studies.
In this case the selection procedure will take place under the
assumption that you graduate rom your present studies
beore starting the program.nprofciency in English
The entire program is taught in English and students
are expected to participate actively in class discussions.
Consequently good, active knowledge o the English
language is crucial or successul participation. All applicants
whose le is accepted will be interviewed by an Antwerp
Management School representative.
Applicants whose native language is not English must submit
TOEFL or IELTS test scores.
Selection procedureApplicants or the master o Global Management start
by submitting a le.

Once your application le has been accepted, you will be
invited to take an I nternational Admission Test. This test is
done on-line at a website and tests your numerical and verbal
skills. Studying or this test is not necessary.
In addition, interviews with all applicants will be organized.
The interview will concern your motivation, perseverance,
personality, leadership skills and how you unction in a group,
as well as your knowledge o English.
Applicants living in Belgium (or who can travel to Belgium) will
be invited to Antwerp Management School or the test and the
interview on special selection days in April and August.
The Admissions Committee will take a decision on the basis
o the application le, the test results and the interview.
Candidates will receive written notication o the Admissions
Committees decision within one month o completing the
application procedure.
Application deadlines
For EU citizens, the application deadline is 1 September;
or non-EU citizens it is 1 June.
You can apply at any time, but we strongly encourage early
application, as we cannot guarantee that there will still be
room in the later stages o the admission process.
Moreover, applying early will give non-EU students sucient
time to arrange or visas.
Fees and expenses
The total ee oe 8.600,00 covers the tuition and use o all
university acilities. It includes the cost o eld trips. It does not
include books. Antwerp Management School does not oer

Career Management Service
(CMS)
The Career Management Service at Antwerp Management
School is dedicated to supporting students in their job hunts.
Students are provided with the necessary skills and insights
and are encouraged to manage their own careers.
During the rst semester, several workshops and seminars are
organized which are an integral, compulsory part o the study
program. They are led by proessionals in close cooperationwith the academic sta and the coordinator o the Career
Management Service. Students are actively encouraged to
take all the steps inherent to any job hunt: through sel-
assessment exercises they become more aware o their
capacities, interests and values, and they are gradually able
to dene their job ocus. This is the groundwork or writing
an eective, personal motivation letter and resum.
In interviewing and negotiation sessions students learn the
dos and donts o job applications. In addition, interactive
sessions on career orientation and strategies are organized,
highlighting appropriate ways to explore and enter the labor
market. Contacts with alumni conclude the inormative and
preparatory part o the program: ormer students come
to share their job-seeking experience and to describe their
current positions and employers.
In the second semester, ocus shits to networking activities
as students get to see and meet company representatives
and recruiters. The companies meet the students on campus.
They give a presentation on the company, saying who they
are, what proles they are looking or, how they proceed in
their selection, etc. Forums are organized on specic themes
to help students get to know a large number o companies.
Oten these activities are ollowed by on-campus interviews.
By carrying out a consulting project or an internship in a
given company, students get a chance to do their rst job or
acquire additional working experience. Throughout the year,
students can consult the Career Management Serv ice or
personal coaching and counselling. Moreover, the CMS oce
acts as a career library with relevant books and magazines,
annual company reports, and access to an extended
company database.
Through these services, Antwerp Management School
strives to extend the unique experience o a post-academic
management program by oering students a chance toacquire additional skills pertinent to their proessional lie,
and to help them enter the labor market.

A prosperous city
At the end o the teenth century,
Antwerp became the leading commercial
centre in Western Europe. It has remained
a fourishing metropolis ever since. Antwerp is the worlds
ourth largest port. Every year, more than ve trillion euros
o added value is created here. Antwerp is also home to a
number o large oil reneries and chemical and petrochemical
companies, second only to Houston Texas in the industry.
The city is amous as the world diamond hub more than
hal o all raw, cut and industrial diamonds transit through
Antwerp. The Antwerp diamond sector has a yearly turnover
o 17 trillion euro rom 1,200 companies employing 15,000
persons.
Focused on the world
Because it is a port, Antwerp has been outward looking or
centuries. Paris, London, Cologne, Frankurt and Amsterdam
are within a 300 kilometer radius, which adds to the citys
cosmopolitan identity. The numerous oreign companies
active in Antwerp make the city eel almost like a scale model
o the world economy and the act that a major part o the
local population speaks fuent English and French simplies
international contacts.
A dose o cultureAntwerp boasts an impressive cultural heritage including the
medieval Cathedral and the intimate Market Square with
its Renaissance town hall and guild houses, among other
landmarks. Works o Antwerps world amous painters,
such as Rubens, Van Dyck and Jordaens, can be viewed in
dierent places throughout the city. Antwerp is also the home
o contemporary artists o European stature like Jan Fabre
and Panamarenko, and local ashion designers, including
Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck and Ann De
Meulemeester, are international trendsetters admired or their
innovative creations rom Paris to Tokyo. A multitude o pubs
and restaurants oer a large and varied selection or drinking
and dining.
Antwerp Management School
Antwerp Management School is located in the historical
center o the city o Antwerp. Ater an award-winning
renovation, a splendid 15th century mansion, called
Het Brantijser, became the new home o the School in the
year 2000. Other university campuses are within walking
distance. The School is easy to reach by public transportation.
Antwerp is a major city and by no
means only in the eyes o its 450.000
inhabitants. For a number o reasons,Antwerp could be considered the

Library Services
An on-line research library provides access to more than
4.000 journals and electronic databases. Business students
can use the central library o the University o Antwerp (UA),
the other libraries on the various campuses, and all specialized
documentation centers o the university. The University o
Antwerp is recognized as a European Documentation Center
and is the only depository o World Bank publications in
Belgium. Moreover, international newspapers are provided
on a daily basis. Students have access to a vast number o
publications in any eld o science through an extensive
network, including other schools and universities, and the
library o the city o Antwerp.
Services / Technology
Antwerp Management School makes extensive technological
resources available to business students. Emphasis on internet
connectivity as the window to the world is clearly refected in
the program content and teaching methods. S tudents will use
business technology on a regular basis and have ree, unlimited
web access. The Schools extensive campus network lets
students download course materials, course assignments and
sotware rom the intranet. Several computer labs on campus
are available to students, including hundreds o networked
computers, laser printers and multimedia applications. All
classrooms are equipped with state-o-the-art technology.
Housing
A large number o o-campus student accommodations are
available in the vicinity o the School. The UA does not own
any student housing but it gives students extensive assistance
in securing housing, whatever the accommodations, budget
and location desired.
Climate
Belgium enjoys a moderate maritime climate with airly
mild winters (average temperature in January is 5C 40 F)
and beautiul summers (average temperature in July is
24 C 78F).
