At the San in Kaigan Global Geopark, you will find many valuable geological assets, such as rocks, strata, coastal landscapes, waterfalls and valleys, which relate to when Japan was a part of the Asian Continent and explain the formation process of the present-day the Sea of Japan. The San in Kaigan Global Geopark is an interesting panoramic location where visitors can observe various types of creatures, people s lives, culture and history in a rich natural environment. One of the major geosites is Genbudo Cave, located in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture. The Quaternary geomagnetic reversal polarity term was first proposed with the basalt in this geosite. The Gauss/Matuyama boundary when the Earth s magnetic field underwent reversal 2.6 million years ago is one of the markers for the beginning of the Quaternary Period.Visitors can discover how people s lives closely relate to the surrounding geomorphology and geology. Notable examples include the rice terraces and Tajima cattle grazing areas located on the gentle slopes formed by landslides, Red Snow Crab and other fishery products from the Sea of Japan, the Oriental White Stork habitat in the Toyooka Basin, the local handbag manufacturing industry, and the cultivation of melons and Chinese shallots in the sand dunes. [Toyooka weather in September] The average temperature ranges from 18.6℃ to 27.4℃.
