“Go and Make”

Matthew 29:19

I am not sure what you thought about the first Sunday of June, the mission presentation by 7 people from our congregation who have taken the command of Christ from Matthew and put it into practice is a special way. I am sorry that I was not here to be a part of that service but I did take the time to watch it on YouTube. I was able to identify with much of what each person was able to share. Next year, God willing, I will take my 19th short term mission trip. I know there are some who say, WHY? Why would you go to a place where you do not know the language? Why would you travel through foreign airports where you are unfa-miliar? Why would you even want to take the risk when you read stories of what can hap-pen on a trip like that? The answer is found in scripture. As believers, we are called to actively spread God's words and love to make a positive difference in the world, whether it be our loved ones, or strangers from another country. Use this collection of Bible verses about missions for in-spiration in making a difference in the world today. Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And sure-ly I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Or Matthew 25:40 “The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'” The list of scripture passages goes on more that I will list here.

So you ask why do I bring this up again, we just went through all of that on our mission Sunday celebration. First, I want to personally thank anyone who has gone on any mission trip.

If I start listing them here is a start:

Casa de Espiranza Mission Jamaica Power Connection Trips to India / China Trips to Africa Trips to Japan Union Gospel Mission Center of Hope And many more

If we look at the number of people who have given of their time and resources to go, we need to thank God for the hearts that have been changed, both here and also where they

have all served. Continued on page 7

Meets the 1st Monday of the month

“Go and Make” continued from page 1

But, let’s not stop and only think of what we have done, but let’s each one of us look for an opportunity to serve. I am organizing another Mission Jamaica trip, ask me about it (July 20 meeting). Steve and Patti Kuck always are ready to lead another trip to Mexico as well at the youth going and needing chaperones. I recently heard of a member of our congregation who is actively involved with Habitat for Humanity here is Sioux Falls. Would it be unreasonable to think that we as a church could move into a neighborhood and do a Habitat home. We would be incarnate in the neigh-borhood which would help us earn the right to share the love of Christ through our actions. All mission trips are not to foreign countries, but all do require a desire to love others.

Apostle Paul wrote it this way, “I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 1:4 So I want to encourage you to GO and MAKE. Find the joy in serving.

Summer’s Half Way Over!” said a mother last

week. It is hard to believe, but she is right! It is already time to be thinking about FRC’s children’s programs.

Adventure Kids: Kindergarten – 5th grade. Meets on Wednesday night 6:15-7:45 (please note time change this fall so kids can be dismissed on school nights earlier) in the north room across from where the youth meet in the multi-

purpose complex on the east side of the building. Courtney Drenth is the leader and we need adults to help with this program in numerous ways. Call the church (338-1553) or talk to Courtney, if you are inter-ested.

Sunday School: Pre-School through 5th grade between the two services on Sunday morning. We also have youth and adult classes offered too. If you would like to teach and be part of this program, call the church office (338-1553 ) or talk to Pastor Steve.

Children & Worship: K-2nd grade. Kids are dismissed during the worship services for a time of worship that is contextualized for their age and understanding. We can always use teachers and helpers. Once again call the church office (338-1553) or talk

to Pastor Steve.

Sprouts (formerly Sing n Sprout): 2 yrs. old – Prekin-dergarten. Sprouts is NOT nursery. We have a room for those in need of nursery care, but Sprouts is for preschool children who will be active in a worship ex-perience that is designed especially for them. Parents need to check their youngsters into the early childhood area before the worship experience begins. These toddlers will sing, dance, and be involved in creative expression. Parents are welcome to bring younger sprouts to this worship experience but any toddler un-der the age of 2 must have parent or guardian present. If you are interested in helping with this program, call the church office (338-1553) or talk to Janet Anthes. Janet is the director of the early childhood center.
