BackgroundThe original edition of this now classic work was done by Jacob Cohen in The Nation as “the finest one-volume interpretation of American history extant.” The book I read which is the third edition “Out of Our Past,” by Carl Degler has added a chapter on the development of American families, and greatly expanded sections dealing with the place and history of women in our past.
