The rail signalling and power systems are being upgraded to allow for the introduction of Sydneys Waratah new trains. A key feature of the delivery model is open-book transparency. Rigorous systems and processes ensure the committed and trusting involvement of alliance partners and RailCorp as client. Queensland Childrens Hospital (QCH) Australia Client Queensland Health As Programme Director and Project Manager for the AUD 1.5 billion project, Aurecons involvement extends across all phases, from master planning and project definition through to construction and commissioning. This development involves a programme of associated works, including the planning and construction of the new 359 bed childrens hospital and central energy plant, along with an academic and research facility, land for family accommodation, plus the relocation of facilities currently located on the operational hospital campus. This is a highly complex programme, with extensive stakeholder engagement and complex approvals being undertaken on a constrained operational hospital site. Aurecon provides value add to Queensland Health through the management of these projects as a programme of works. This approach has resulted in improved coordination, communication, risk management and consistency. Nova Vida Housing Development Angola Client Government of Angola The Nova Vida Housing Development is the largest building project ever undertaken in Luanda, Angola. Phase 1 provided housing for 30 000 people on a site area of approximately 440 hectares. Nova Vida is a model of engineering and construction excellence aimed at improving the life of impoverished citizens. The project posed a number of challenges including the sourcing and transportation of suitable building materials, the operation of a multinational and multilingual workforce, as well as the challenge of providing on-site skills training and mentoring. Aurecon was appointed to carry out work that ranged from conceptualisation and design, to construction supervision and project management of this multifaceted undertaking. Nova Vida is a prime example of what can be achieved through teamwork, expertise, innovation and understanding the needs of the client. The project sets a precedent for similar, future developments throughout the country and elsewhere in Africa. Adelaide Desalination Plant Australia Client South Australia Water This AUD 1.2 billion project includes a 100 gigalitre per annum seawater desalination plant, 12 kilometre transfer pipeline and pump station and power supply infrastructure. Aurecon provided a wide range of project management and technical services from early investigations through to concept development, stakeholder interaction, procurement, approvals, construction, testing and planning for commissioning. Aurecon has adopted an integrated approach with the client and wider project team involved in the commercial, legal and technical areas. We have played a key part in developing a reference design, conducting marine and terrestrial investigations, assisting with the environmental impact studies and developing performance based specifications for the tendering process. Our project management activities included comprehensive programme scheduling and reporting to the Project Director and team heads to assist with project control. Berg Water Project South Africa Client Trans Caledon Tunnel Authority Undertaken to augment the water supply of the Western Cape region of South Africa, Aurecon provided extensive input to this significant project as a member of the Berg River Consultants joint venture. The project consists of the Berg River Dam (a 62 metre high concrete faced rockfill dam), the Berg Supplement Scheme comprising two pump stations with capacities of up to six cubic metres per second and abstraction works, as well as 12 kilometres of steel pipelines, up to 1.5 metres in diameter. Particular innovations in the dam design include dynamic compaction of alluvial deposits in portions of the dam foundations and the use of articulated slabs with special water-stop features to cater for potential differential settlement. An exceptional feature of the outlet works is their ability to mimic periodic natural floods of up to 200 cubic metres per second that are necessary to mitigate the impact on the ecology and geomorphology of the river. Global success stories Our management professionals have a proven track record in the planning and delivery of complex and award-winning programmes and projects.
