Perry Foster, chief of the Cave-In-Rock Fire Depart-ment in Illinois, knew
exactly where he wanted to get lunch in Paducah on Wednesday.
“This is somewhere where we feel at home,” Foster said, motioning to his assistant chief Randy Fields. “We really appre-ciate this kind of support.”
The pair sat in The Station Burger Co. at 3500 James Sanders Blvd., a restaurant opened April 1 by local volunteer fi refi ghters and friends who’ve turned an idea from a backyard grilling party into a business.
And if the burger joint’s name doesn’t give it away, two seconds inside the front door tips cus-tomers off to the fi rst responders vibe.
Framed photos line the walls, almost all of them culled from McCracken County fi re stations, showing locals on the job. A fi re suit hung on the wall behind Foster and Fields, who were in town on busi-ness and couldn’t turn down the restau-rant’s cama-raderie or its 20-percent discount to fi rst re-sponders with proper identifi cation.
Fire department patches from California to Kuttawa to Miami Beach occupy one wall, while a patch from a New York City fi re-fi ghter who died during the 9/11 tragedy has its own wall space.
“This is what The Station is all about,” said Carl Medlin, a vol-unteer fi refi ghter at the Concord Fire Department, and one of the
restaurant’s many co-owners.“We try to celebrate and rec-
ognize all of our counties’ fi rst responders and fi refi ghters.”
The young restaurant’s theme is noteworthy enough as the country anticipates the 10th an-niversary of the 9/11 attacks.
The Station has quickly be-come a haven for fi refi ghters, law enforcement offi cers and fi rst responders where their service is refl ected all around them.
“You have a lot of family in-volvement here, and something happened a few weeks back that still gives me chills,” Medlin said. “We had a girl come in and start looking at the photographs on the wall of local fi refi ghters from over the years and she started crying.”
“Then she told me the reason ... she saw her dad in one of those photographs from long ago. She told me she was just so proud of her dad and thanked
us for putting it up like that.”
Most emergency workers have noticed more vocal and outright sup-port since the ter-
rorists’ attacks.“Not that
we weren’t supported
prior to that,” said Brandon Barnhill, as-sistant chief of
the Paducah Police Department.
“But I think the appreciation and the understand-ing may be a little more prevalent. At least from my
standpoint, people are telling us more often.”
Jamie Peyton, a 17-year vet-eran at the Concord Fire Depart-ment, said The Station is another way to voice support.
“The walls tell the story,” Pey-ton said. “We want to let them know that there are people who appreciate them.”

Peyton, are restaurant co-owners as well, which hints at the unique ownership model and operation of The Station.
No less than 15 investors, of-fering a couple hundred dollars on up to thousands, pitched in whatever money they could to open the modern diner, showing the sacrifi ce and faith in one an-other common to the fi refi ghter profession.
“We opened the doors debt-free,” Medlin said. “The way I saw it, I could be partners with a banker or I can be partners with you. I choose you.”
Medlin said he approached friends and even outright strang-ers to pitch in whatever amount they wanted to help open the doors.
Each investor receives a return proportionate to his or her stake in the company, Medlin said.
A core of three couples are most involved in the day-to-day operations: the Peytons, Carl and Misty Medlin and Tony and Ashley Gallo, all of McCracken County.
The Gallos aren’t local fi re-fi ghters, just friends of the Peytons and Medlins who knew their backyard grill parties pro-duced burgers that could sell.
“Me and my husband, we’re in our mid-20s. We’re newlyweds so for us, we wondered if we should do this or not,” Ashley Gallo said.
“We said, ‘What’s the worst that can happen?’ So we just went into it believing that every-
thing was going to be good and so far it’s been awesome.”
Medlin recognizes that the story could be different. If this idea among friends, none of whom have experience in run-ning a restaurant, didn’t turn into a prospering or popular eatery, investors could have turned sour.
The move required a leap of faith, and a trust in the kind of people we trust our safety and lives to when fi re is around.
Medlin said the restaurant offers buy-in forms for future in-vestors to open more locations in the area. He said there’s a wait-ing list to become an investor.

The building under construc-tion at 4620 Village Square Drive will be a new location for Paducah Primary Care. Until construction is complete, Dr. Ron Wilson and Dr. Scott Wilson will continue treating patients at PPC’s offi ce at 2601 Kentucky Ave. inside Western Baptist Hospital.
Ron Wilson said builders anticipate fi nishing the new building by December or Janu-ary. Site plans on fi le at the city inspection offi ce call for a two-story structure with 5,408 total square feet.
Once the new PPC offi ce
opens, it will be a neighbor to Bluegrass Dermatology, opened recently by Dr. Doug Wilson, who is a cousin to Ron Wilson.

Four Rivers Internal Med-icine submitted site plans for a
new two-story medical building at 3131 Parisa Drive. The internal medicine practice has an exist-ing offi ce at 2603 Kentucky Ave. inside Western Baptist Hospital.
Site plans call for a two-story building with a main fl oor, fea-turing 3,240 square feet, and a basement level with 3,240 square feet.

Swift & Staley Mechanical Contractors, an infrastruc-ture contractor at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant, has led the U.S. Department of Energy in Paducah to its third Federal Electronic Challenge Award in four years.
The DOE will receive the 2011 FEC Bronze Level Award from
the U.S. Environmental Protec-tion Agency and the Offi ce of the Federal Environmental Ex-ecutive at EPA headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 19.
The award honors the 2010 site efforts in reducing the envi-ronmental impact of electronics
in one life-cycle phase acquisi-tion and procurement.

Construction moving along for Paducah Primary Care
SAN FRANCISCO — It’s easy to forget now, but Apple’s magnetism was once confi ned to a cult-like following of geeks seduced by the elegance and sim-plicity of the company’s computers.
Over the past de-cade, though, Apple has emerged as a trendsetter and a wealth-making ma-chine — the rare company that appeals to the cool cats hanging out in hip ca-fes and the fat cats looking to make another killing on Wall Street.
In the process, Apple has left an indelible mark that extends far beyond that fi rst personal computer Steve Jobs and Steve Woz-niak introduced 35 years ago. Since then, Apple has transformed the music, retailing, marketing and cellphone industries. Now, it’s engineering yet an-other evolution in comput-ing with the increasingly popular iPad tablet.
Those achievements have endeared Apple to the masses, turning its prod-uct announcements into the technology industry’s latter-day version of a Beatles concert and turn-ing its familiar logo into an emblem of exquisite taste.
Part visionary, showman and uncompromising task-master, Jobs assembled a team that had an incred-ible knack for anticipating consumer trends and pop-ularizing them by design-ing devices that were easy — and delightful — to use. Apple didn’t invent music players, smartphones or tablet computers, but under Jobs’ leadership, the company convinced the masses that the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad were breakthroughs that they couldn’t live without.
It seemed as if the sec-ond coming of Walt Disney and the rest of the “imagi-neers” who built Disney-land during the mid-1950s had come to Silicon Valley to lead the way into the 21st century.
In the past decade, Apple’s gadgets have trans-formed society, enabling people to bring along their favorite music, books, videos and websites almost everywhere they go. In the process they inspired countless imitators and ensured that Jobs, who resigned Wednesday, will be remembered as one of the most successful CEOs in American history.
None of it would have happened if Jobs hadn’t returned to Apple in 1997
after being pushed out of the company in the mid-1980s by John Sculley, a CEO that Jobs had lured away from Pepsico Inc.
Jobs never left any doubt he intended to be a game changer from the time he and Wozniak, a high school buddy, planted Apple in a Silicon Valley garage. With the introduc-tion of the Apple II — the fi rst personal computer to display color graphics —Jobs provided a glimpse of how he would go on to put the “i’’ into personal technology and change people’s lives.
The innovations kept coming as long as Jobs was at Apple (there was 12-year exile after the falling out with Sculley).
The Mac computer brought a graphical inter-face that could be clicked with a mouse. The iPod enabled anyone to carry
around a library of music in their pocket. The iPhone changed the concept of mobile computing and popularized the catch-phrase “there’s an app for that.” Most recently, the iPad is making the PC look antiquated as it creates more convenient ways to read, watch movies, play games and fetch informa-tion from the Internet.
Jobs’ wizardry rescued a company on the preci-pice of bankruptcy and elevated it into the second most valuable business in America. It now has a mar-ket value of nearly $350 billion, behind only Exxon Mobil Corp. — a company whose fortunes are tied to wildly fl uctuating oil prices rather than the beauty of a good idea.
The last test of Jobs’ genius may come as he tries to pass on his magi-cal touch to his successor.
He believes he has found the right guy in Tim Cook, with whom he has worked closely since 1998.
By all accounts, Cook is a top-notch executive who has proven that he knows how to pull the levers of Apple’s mystique. He has run the company dur-ing Jobs’ three leaves of absence since 2004.
Still, it’s hard not to shake the feeling that this may be the beginning of the end of an era — both for technological zealots try-ing to fi gure out when the iPhone 5 is coming out and nervous investors wonder-ing whether to buy or sell the company’s stock.
“Oh my goodness, I was terribly shocked!” said Chris Perez, 32, as he stood outside an Apple store in north Phoenix on Wednesday night. “He was the man that came up with everything ‘i.’”

For now, in a time when fi refi ghters and the like will again hold the nation’s attention and respect, the Station will revel in its recent success.
“I’ve seen at lunch time some days where the line is so long that people are waiting outside the door,” said David Kelly, a Station regular.
“I also like how the place looks. Honor is a big deal, and with the pictures of all of the local fi refi ghters and emergen-cy workers, along with the tributes to 9/11, you feel that here.”

NEW YORK — Steve Jobs pushed the envelope many times when it came to product design, and the results weren’t always pretty. Here are seven products created under his direction that failed commercially or functionally:
1. Apple III (1981) — The succes-sor to the very popular Apple II was focused on business users and priced accordingly. Unfortunately, the hard-ware was unreliable.
2. Lisa (1983) — The first commer-cially produced computer with a graphi-cal user interface cost $9,995 when it launched. It quickly fell into the shad-ow of the cheaper Macintosh, launched a year later.
3. NeXT Computer (1989) — Jobs’ venture after being forced out of Apple created a computer that was ahead of its time, but it was also too expensive to catch on with mainstream users.
4. Puck Mouse (1998) — The new iMac was the first major product creat-ed after Jobs’ return to Apple in 1996, and it was a big success, despite its tiny, round mouse. Users couldn’t tell which way it was oriented by feel, and it tended to disappear in the cup of the hand, making it hard to use.
5. The Cube (2000) — This small
desktop computer was beautifully en-cased in a cube of clear plastic. It won design awards but was a flop in stores because of its high price. The Cube idea lives on in the Mac Mini, more successful but less eye-catching.
6. iTunes phone (2005) — It’s easy to forget that the iPhone wasn’t Apple’s first venture into the cellphone business. It formed a partnership with Motorola Inc. to launch the ROKR in 2005. As a phone, it was decent, but as a music player, it fell far short of the iPod. It could only hold 100 songs, and transferring them from the computer was a slow process. It was also criti-cized for not allowing users to down-load music over the cellular network.
7. Apple TV (2007) — Apple’s foray into the living room was an uncharac-teristically half-hearted effort. It was a small box that connected to a TV and to a Mac. A remote allowed the owner to play music and movies from the PC on the TV. It was expensive and complicated to set up and use. Movies were low resolution. In 2010, Apple introduced a much improved, cheaper Apple TV designed to connect directly to the Internet.

NEW YORK — Running around a store with a scan-ner tagging gifts to add to your wedding registry may sound like fun, but the continuing economic uncertainty means couples must balance their wishes with what guests feel com-fortable spending.
Remember the praise Will and Kate got for their charitable registry? And the criticism Kim Kar-dashian received for the over-the-top items on one of her registries?
It’s important to maintain perspective, especially with increasing numbers of alternative registries making it easier than ever to ask for every-thing from napkin rings to help with a mortgage down payment.
“You need to stop and take inventory of what you already have and what you will need for your lives together,” says Jodi Smith, an author and the president of Mannersmith Etiquette Consulting.
Here are some tips for developing your game plan.
Traditional registries
If you don’t already have a complete household’s worth of goods — or two — you may want to consider a traditional registry. You can avoid some of the returns, exchanges and “regifting” if you think carefully about what your guests are up for when you choose where to register, what you ask for and how much people will be ex-pected to spend.
■ The store: You may love a little local boutique, but it’s not likely to be convenient for all your friends and family. Some may prefer seeing their gifts for you in person. And there still are people who never buy online. So try to register with at least one store that has locations around the country.
■ The prices: Find stores that regularly provide coupons, like Bed Bath and Beyond does, or have frequent promotions, like Macy’s. And offer variety.
“If you register at Tif-fany, do maybe Tiffany and
Target,” suggests Smith.Plus, if you include gifts
that cost less than $20 or $50, guests may be happy to give you a pair, like a set of baking sheets with a set of mixing bowls, explains Amy Eisinger, associate editor of weddingchannel.com.
If there are a few expen-sive items you really want — like a $600 vacuum cleaner or a $1,500 set of pots and pans — it’s fi ne to add them to your registry because a group of family members or friends might want to pitch in together, Eisinger says.
■ The selection: Choose items that last, like china and linens, so they feel more special as gifts. And include a mix — everything from barware to garden-ing tools — so guests fi nd something they resonate with.
■ The policies: Know in advance how stores handle returns and exchanges — especially those that don’t involve a receipt — and choose retailers that are fl exible.
Alternative registries
A growing number of websites offer new takes on wedding planning and presents, though most es-sentially boil down to ways to receive cash payments online or to send dona-tions to a favorite cause.
There are honeymoon registries, at www.hon-eyfund.com and www.honeyluna.com and other sites; charitable registries like www.greenwish.com, www.alternativegiftreg-istry.org and www.just-give.org; and even cash registries, such as www.ourwishingwell.com and
www.featherournest.com, where you can save for a mortgage down payment.
Smith recommends pair-ing any alternative registry you choose with a tradi-tional one.
“There will always be guests who don’t want to give money,” she says.
Keep tabs
It may seem taboo, but it doesn’t hurt to occasion-ally check what your family and friends are choosing from your registry.
A quick scan as the big day nears (ask a bridal party member to peek if it makes you uncomfort-able) can help you deter-mine if you need to add or change your selections to ensure your guests have options and feel included in your plans and your future.

The website for HoneyLuna.com presents their online service for starting a wedding gift registry. Deciding what to put on your registry can be daunting when you’re con-sidering everything from flat-screen televisions to napkin rings, but it’s important to maintain perspective.
DETROIT — General Mo-tors is working to design and engineer electric vehi-cles with Korean electron-ics and battery company LG Group, which supplies battery cells for the Chev-
rolet Volt extended-range electric, as the automaker seeks to expand its elec-tric-vehicle portfolio.
GM plans to sell the resulting vehicles in sev-eral countries, but said it would wait until later in the development process
to announce the timing for those launches.
“Consumers benefi t by getting the latest fuel-sav-ing technology faster if we work with the best suppli-ers and we save time and money in the development process,” GM Vice Chair-
man Steve Girsky said Thursday in a statement.
The GM-LG agreement is the second green-vehicle partnership announced this week. On Monday, Ford and Toyota said they will work together on a hybrid system for light trucks.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Bar codes. Electronic way bills. Vertically integrated partnerships. They help businesses turn big profi ts. Now companies like UPS and Wal-Mart are teaching these trade crafts to aid workers so they can deliver food and shelter to famine victims more quickly and cheaply, saving money and ulti-mately more lives.
When World Food Pro-gram executive director Josette Sheeran visited hunger sites in Kenya and Somalia last month, she brought along Peter Bak-ker, the former chief ex-ecutive of the transporta-tion company TNT and a current U.N. ambassador against hunger. Bakker is helping rally support for those affected by the drought and famine in the Horn of Africa.
More than 12 million people need food aid in the Horn. WFP is responding with emergency rations in multiple locations.
“If you bring company thinking and company skills to a place like WFP, you can really make an impact,” Bakker said.
WFP is moving to a computerized system of delivery that includes bar coding aid products and using electronic way bills, Sheeran said. WFP would have had to spend hundreds of millions of dollars to access such technology, she said, but the business world is sharing its secrets for free, to help save lives.
“It’s another form of corporate responsibility that I think is really key,” she said. “Can you help us be as good as you are — in our world of savings lives
and hunger — in all these effi ciencies and controls?”
Esther Ndichu, the humanitarian logistics manager for UPS, said her company’s involvement in the Horn of Africa crisis began after Bakker made calls to WFP’s corporate sponsors. UPS is part of a logistics emergency team along with TNT, Maersk and Agility, she said. On Aug. 16 UPS fl ew in a Boeing 767 with 50 metric tons of peanut butter supplment to Kenya at no cost. It fl ies in a second plane load on Saturday.
UPS helps WFP, UNI-CEF, and the Red Cross with logistics expertise, said Ronna Branch, a UPS spokeswoman.
“We’ve been doing it forever. We’ve been mov-ing everything from water and food and disaster relief stuff to pandas and whale sharks,” Branch said. “But after the (2004 Asian) tsunami and then following Katrina, we were so involved in aid that the organization decided we wanted to take this on as a strategy of philanthropy.”
Rigo Giron, the as-sociate vice president of strategic initiatives and supply chain management at CARE USA, said UPS’s expertise has allowed CARE to expand its ability to deliver lifesaving aid.
“This learning has shaped CARE’s supply chain strategies to move beyond our traditional logistical approach to one that leverages and opti-mizes resources within what I call a vertically integrated partnership. A partnership in which each participant, in this case, CARE and UPS, comple-ments their individual capabilities to do more with less,” Giron said.

Paducah, died Saturday at his residence.
O r t i s was born on March 3, 1918, in Henry C o u n t y , T e n n . , to the late Orie F u l t o n and Ollie Glyn Key.
He was a Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Iran in Air Transport Command. Ortis graduated from Paducah Junior College and retired from T.V.A. He served for 37 years on Board of Directors of Shaw-nee T.V.A. Employees Fed-eral Credit Union, 19 years on the Board of Directors for Kentucky Credit Union League, and served as a Na-tional Director of N.C.U.A. Ortis was a member of Lebanon United Method-ist Church and for over 30 years served as Treasurer of Paducah District-United Methodist Churches. He was a Duke of Paducah and Kentucky Colonel. He was a Squadron Commander of Kentucky Lake Power Squadron.

Key of Nashville, Justin (Sara) Wallace of Charleston, S.C., Benjamin Wallace of West Palm Beach, Fla., and John Wallace of Raleigh, N.C.; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan and Amelia Rietze, Daniel Key III, Alex, Rus-sell and Conner Kaegi, and Brooks Wallace; and a sis-ter, Clovis Brown of Mur-ray.
He was preceded in death by his fi rst wife, Clara Er-win Key; his second wife, Mildred Crittendon Key; a son, Jerry Key; a brother, Lowell Key; and his par-ents.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Revs. Greg Waldrop and Fred French offi ciating. Burial with military honors will follow at South Pleas-ant Grove Cemetery in Murray, KY. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Masonic rites at 7 p.m.

19, of Tiline passed away Thursday, August 25, 2011, at Vanderbilt University Hospital.
C o d y was born F e b r u -ary 7, 1992, in Paducah, KY.
He is survived by his parents, Shannon
Cooper of Ledbetter, and Elisha and Glen Harp of Tiline; three siblings, Colby, Carlie, and Chase Cooper; his grand-parents, Charles Mont and Nancy Cooper of Ledbet-ter, and Mark and Eyvonne Schaibley of Smithland.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gale Lynn Hubbard.
Cody was a 2010 gradu-ate from Livingston Cen-tral High School, and was studying towards a science degree at West Kentucky Community and Techni-cal College. He was also a member of Ohio Valley Baptist Church.
There was never an as-pect of life that Cody didn’t wish to explore. He enjoyed doing anything involved with being outdoors includ-ing hunting and fi shing, but especially bow fi shing with his buddies. Cody was an active member at the gym and took part in learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, through
which he had recently been awarded his blue belt. When he was feeling more laid back you would fi nd him with his friends or brothers and sister playing video games.
Cody’s ongoing physical activities were great, but what he did within himself was much greater. His con-stant wit, sense of humor, and all-around intention to see himself and others smile made a lasting im-pression on all those lucky enough to be a part of his life.
Funeral services will be offi ciated by Brother Terry Mitcheson and Brother Brad Shuck on Tuesday, August 30th, at 1 p.m. at Ohio Valley Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 29th, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., also at Ohio Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Chapel.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral service at Paradise Cemetery in Grand Rivers. Serving as pallbearers are Will Coo-per, Zeb Gordon, Jeremy Kolba, Jordan Riley, Jerrad Wilson, and Chris Martin.

He was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church of Paducah, where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for 58 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army –
Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post #31 of Paducah.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Neva Doug-las; one son, Steven Linn Douglas and wife Gail of East Prairie, Mo.; two daughters, Monta Faye Tuxill and husband Rich-ard of Auburn, New York, and Marla Caskey and hus-band Robert of Paducah; one brother, Carl Wayne Douglas of Monks Corner, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Douglas Tuxill, Jared Tux-ill, Frank McKinzie, Shalon Day, Steven Douglas, Mat-thew Douglas and Mark Douglas; sixteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Mildred Carnette Alexan-der, 63, of Bowling Green, died August 18, 2011, at her home, after a long illness.

er met a stranger. She was a daugh-ter of the late Charles Hen-ry Alexander and Odessa Grundy Coneal. She was preceded in death by fi ve brothers, Willieu Coneal Jr., Martin Lee Coneal, Reggie Arnel Grundy, Ron-ald Grundy and Donald Grundy.
A celebration of her life was held July 23, 2011, with several family members and friends in attendance.
Survivors include daugh-ter, Yvonne Williams and
her husband, Mike; and son, Kelvin Alexander and his wife, Diana, all of Bowl-ing Green, Kentucky; three grandchildren, T’Keyah Alexander, DeVaughn Williams and William Al-exander; sisters, Barbara Weatherspoon of Louis-ville, Kentucky, Margie Williams, Patricia Alexan-der and Rosolyn Grundy, all of Detroit, Michigan, Claudetta Alexander and Carolyn Cruse, both of Clinton, Kentucky, Maria Ward of Columbus, Indi-ana, and Donna Johnson of Mayfi eld, Kentucky; broth-ers, Bobby Coneal of Lou-isville, Kentucky, William Jones Spate of Clinton, Kentucky, Tony Alexander and his wife Lorean of St. Louis, Missouri, and Wal-lace Coneal and his wife Angie of Detroit, Michigan. Robert Wayne LeedyVALLEY SPRINGS, Calif.
— Robert Wayne Leedy, 84, of Valley Springs, formerly of Paducah, succumbed to advanced Alzheimer’s dis-ease on Aug. 20, 2011, at his home surrounded by his immediate family.
At the early age of fi fteen Robert, using a falsifi ed age certifi cate, eagerly joined the Navy in 1942. While in the Navy he attended diesel engine school and obtained the rank of Motor Machin-ist Mate second class. Upon his honorable discharge in 1946, he followed his inter-est in diesels and large ma-chinery and went to work for the Illinois Central Rail-road (ICRR). Robert settled into a career focused on the re-manufacturing of diesel electromotive engines at ICRR’s re-build shops lo-cated in Paducah, Ky.
Thirty seven years later he retired to Tucson, Ariz. However, he did not lose his interest in the train busi-ness. While in Tucson he
formed a consulting busi-ness and contracted with the company that bought the Paducah shops. The majority of his consulting was conducted in and for the Mexican government’s national railroad.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy May Woodyard Leedy; two sons, Stephen (Claudia) Leedy of New Orleans and Scott (Debbie) Leedy of Valley Springs; one daughter, Robbye (Mark) Fox of Livonia, Mich.; two brothers, Thomas (Roberta) Smith of Bellfl ower, Calif., and John (Anek) Smith of Zephyr Cove, Nev.; four grandchildren; and fi ve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Leedy. His parents were Howard F. Leedy and Rosa Agnus Holmes.
There will be no services or visitation.

Helen M. Ledsinger was born on December 14, 1926, to Libbie E. Adams and Herschel Evans. She was a member of the St. Paul AME Church in Me-tropolis, where she served as Church Secretary, Stew-art, and Pianist.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Jerri T. Browne of Metropolis, Ill.; 2 grand-sons, Robert G. Taylor of Metropolis, Ill., and Monty E. Browne and wife Erica of Dallas, Texas; 1 great-grandson, Adrian Browne
of Dallas, Texas; 2 neph-ews, Donald Ray Evans Sr. of Metropolis, Ill., and Robert Lavern Morris Sr. of Metropolis, Ill.; and a num-ber of family, cousins, and friends.
