Morning Academic Program July 1 – July 29, 2016

Tuition: $2,500 Within the Morning Academic Program, each student is enrolled in four academic classes each day: Language & Literature, History, Science, and Math as well as art, music, and gym classes. Parent may choose to enroll their child in either Encoding/Decoding class (learning the rules of spelling/ syllabication/reading) or Reading Comprehension class (understanding what is read). Select ONE of these two classes that you feel your child would benefit from most. If you are uncertain, select “undecided” and the admissions committee will place your child as they deem appropriate according to the academic evaluation provided.

At the heart of Winston Preparatory School is the belief that all students acquire knowledge differently. In keeping with this spirit and philosophy, please share with us all that may be helpful in getting to know your child by answering the following questions on a separate piece of paper:

APPLICATION PROCEDURE: Please complete, sign, and return this form with a $500 non-refundable deposit made payable to Winston Preparatory School. (Deposit will be applied towards tuition upon enrollment.) Please submit the application and deposit by June 1, 2016 along with the following items:

Winston Preparatory School Summer After-School Program 2016
July 5 – July 28, 2016
Acting Workshop Students will develop their acting techniques by taking risks to explore ideas as well as exercising their creative expression and self-confidence through scene study and monologue. Art & Minds This course is designed to encourage intellectual curiosity and develop creativity by producing multi-dimensional works of visual art, including portraits, landscapes, and sculptures.
Basketball The class will focus on the fundamentals of basketball while also emphasizing sportsmanship and teamwork. Ball-handling, passing, and defensive drills will be balanced with shooting activities and games.
Computing 101 Students will acquire fundamental computing skills and programming basics. The class will also learn about how computers work and the art of using technology to accomplish computational tasks. Creativity in Music Students will discover and explore music through critical listening, improvisation, and musical composition. Cross Training This body-conditioning course offers activities that focus on coordination and body awareness, as well as cardiovascular and muscular fitness. Activities include soccer, basketball, running, and weightlifting. Dance Students will learn dance routines from musical theater incorporating contemporary, jazz, and Latin dance elements combined with elements from Zumba, providing a balance of dance and aerobic workout. Digital Photography Students explore basic photographic concepts, gaining hands-on experience with digital cameras, G5 iMac computers, and Adobe’s Photoshop™ software. Sightseeing Excursions In this life-skills class, students will learn to plan and undertake excursions (on foot and via the subway) to such iconic New York City locations as the Empire State Building; Grand Central Station; and the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum. Sketch Comedy Writing Students will learn how to write 2-4 page comedy scenes, revise their work based on classmate feedback, and transform their scripts from the page to the stage.
