Multiple Facets of Medical Publishing Showcased April 26 Medical writing often relies on both words and pictures to communicate effec- tively. At the April 26 th Chapter meeting, we'll hear from two speakers with unique perspectives on these complementary facets of medical publishing. Since July 1996, Lyn Reynolds has been the Editorial Office Manager for Diabetes Care, a journal for the health care practitio- ner that is intended to increase knowledge, stimulate research, and promote better man- agement of people with diabetes. Diabetes Care has over 10,000 authors and more than 3,000 reviewers listed in their database. Ms. Reynolds will present an overview of the journal and its history, will give us a sneak preview of a new submission system they are implementing and will discuss the most frequently encountered problems in the submission process. Tom Weinzerl, director of the department of Visual Media at Indiana University’s School of Medicine, and a board member of the Association of Medical Illustrators, has had thirty years of experience in the field of medical illustration. He’ll share with us the work of a full-service visual media depart- ment— including graphic design, medical illustration, sculpture and video— and discuss how this aids the school’s missions of teach- ing, research and service. He’ll also touch on how technology is changing the profession. Correction Please note that the 2003-2004 AMWA Indiana Chapter Presi-dent was Karen Burkey (not Burke as it appeared in the Feb-ruary issue of Hoosier Writer). It should also be noted that since that since the award-winning article referred to in our newsletter was published, Karen has married and is now Karen Heraty. Apologies, Karen!

New Chapter Web Site To Debut Soon Our Chapter web site is experiencing a rebirth! The new site is still under construc-tion, but we hope to have it up soon. It will include current and archived newsletter, meet-ing information and other helpful links. The new URL will be www.hoosieramwa.org

Committee members are currently re-searching this new option and would welcome ideas or sug-gestions. If you have input, please call Elaine Crabtree, IN Chapter President at [email protected]
