HOLY FAMILY DAY SCHOOLWhat Makes the Day School

Different From the Rest? Our Parish School certainly has grown over the

past 15 years! What started with three teachers, a music teacher and twenty students, has become a thriving, well-respected learning center in the heart of our community. Today, the Day School has fifteen employees, 73 students and we continue to encourage a love of learning. So, how are we different? Our Principal, Mrs. Girard has created a team of teachers who come together each day to support the school, the students and each other. Our teachers stay with us for years because the Day School is a great place to be and this concept conveys to the students as well as the families! We work hard to make every student feel safe and confident in the knowledge that they are cherished. Almost anywhere you travel around this area you will hear compliments about how the teachers and staff of the Day School go the extra mile to ensure individual attention is given to each student. There are public school employees and administrators who highly recommend our school to parents who have just moved in to the area. Several NATO countries repeatedly send their young families our way for excellent care and education while they are in the United States. Families with children who have previously attended the school bring their younger children back to us when they are old enough to enter school. The thematic based, academic learning program is phenomenal but, it is the ability to mesh that with a sense of wonder and excitement about learning as your child develops that makes the Day School a true gem. Registration for next year has only been open to the public for a while and spaces are filling up! Visit our website at www.holyfamilydayschool.org and then give us a call at 757-481-1180 for a tour.

Holy Week: During Lent and especially during Holy Week, we try to look at our lives and see how God works through our friends as well as our family. This forty day journey comes to a close with the glorious hope that we will all be united one day in peace and love in God’s Heavenly Kingdom. The Day School is on Spring Break this week and we encourage you all to find a little extra time in your day to spend with a loved one, or if that is not possible, maybe say a prayer for them. We will reopen on Monday, April 17.

GREAT FOOD ~ GREAT PEOPLE~ GREAT PRICES

Our March 12 breakfasts, attended by 200 parishioners, were a super success. PGK Greg Hayes and PGK Terry McClaskey and their team continue to raise the quality and quantity of this periodic event ~ without raising the price. The menu now includes pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, gravy, biscuits, and free coffee and orange juice, all for $5.00 for adults and $3.00 for children. The newly implemented order forms are a huge help and have been well received. Our next breakfast will be on April 30 after both Masses. Make plans now for a family breakfast outing, good food and a good time!

LUCKY US ~ BE WE IRISH OR NOTOnce again, a virtual sellout crowd enjoyed yet another great St. Patrick’s Day Dinner at Café Holy Family. Chef PGK Mike O’Brien (who else?) and his staff produced another delicious dinner, complemented by the festive atmosphere. Fun loving party goers, good food and drink, Irish music and ambiance ~ it doesn’t get much better than that. Thanks to all who participated in a great evening!

KOVARCharity is the first principle for

the Knights of Columbus. Virginia Knights have sought to extend our charity through KOVAR to Virginians with intellectual disabilities who wish to lead a life like ours. Every dollar collected goes to support programs that allow our friends to improve their ability to communicate, live more independently, develop job skills, and live more fulfilling lives

We will be collecting once again on the weekend of April 22/23!

We invite all of the men in our parish to join our Council and help us to make a difference!

Weekly Wisdom

“CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players:” Why did Michelangelo place his Jonah depiction in the Sistine Chapel right above The Last Judgment? When the Pharisees asked for a miraculous sign of Jesus’ power, he responded that no sign would be given except for the sign of Jonah. Jonah was in the belly of the whale for three days, where he should have died, just as Jesus was in the tomb for three days after His death. Both were “resurrected” by God’s power to fulfill a divine plan, Jonah finally obeyed God and went to Nineveh to preach repentance, and Jesus was “obedient unto death,” and so eternal life is possible for all who repent and follow Him.

FEATURING “FORMED.ORG!” Do you have 30 minutes to spare? As we enter this week of remembrance, we encourage you to watch the 30 minute video titled “Holy Week in Rome.” This video depicts scenes from Jesus’ last days on earth and how this week is commemorated in Rome. Through several examples of art and videos, these symbolic events become very “real” and this resource is an excellent way to focus our attention during Holy Week. Another Formed.org resource detailing the events of Holy Week is the ebook “Awakening” by Claudia Cangilla McAdam. Follow the story of Ronni’s search for peace and understanding after the deaths of her father and brother when she is “transported” back in time 2,000 years in the past. This is a young adult novel of Biblical historical fiction and is appropriate for readers from middle school through adult.

today, all while supporting education and sustainable agriculture in Baptiste Haiti.

“CREATION CARE CORNER:” Join the Parish Environmental Committee for the celebration of EARTH DAY. On the weekend of April 22/23, we will join with people throughout our country to pay tribute to and offer thanksgiving for our Earth, which is abundantly generous with the vital gifts it places at our disposal.

The Environmental Committee has arranged for various activities to enable us parishioners to celebrate EARTH DAY. The liturgies that weekend will include hymns, and petitions in the Prayer of the Faithful, which speak of our environment. Fr. Gaudy will have some words in his homily concerning the Earth. Between the liturgies on Sunday, Mr. John Dano from Hampton Roads Sanitation Department will give a presentation on the newly developed method of purifying waste water so it can be drinkable. The shredder will be available for your use from April 22 to April 30, to dispose of important documents. A Pure water purifier will be given to the person with the lucky number. Exhibits from different local environmental organizations will be set up, having materials for your taking. Fair Trade coffee from Haiti will be on sale. We take for granted the air we breathe, the land we walk on, and the water we drink. Together, let’s give special attention to our Home, Mother Earth, and participate in these simple activities.

The Committee is hopeful that parishioners will learn more, appreciate more, and take greater care in our use of the gifts of our Earth.

“I exhort everyone to see the world through the eyes of God the Creator: the earth is an environment to be safeguarded, a garden to be cultivated.” ~ Pope Francis
