Dear Ones,

As I sit to type this, the printer is busy churning out materials for our Holy Week observances. By the time

you read it, we will have welcomed back our Alleluias, shouted “The Lord is risen, indeed!” and entered into

a new, joyful season of the church year.

And a busy one. There are a number of exciting things coming up in the weeks ahead.

Probably the most significant one is the Bishop’s Visitation on Sunday, May 8. He will meet with the Ves-

try that morning before worship, preach and celebrate the Eucharist at the 10:30 service, then join with all of

us for a lunch gathering where you can ask him questions, hear his thoughts on current issues in the church,

give him feedback about how you think things are going at Christ Church, and just catch up with him. A plan-

ning team will have more information about the details of this luncheon later in April.

This is also an opportunity for people to be confirmed or received (from the Roman Catholic Church) into the

Episcopal Church. Anyone wishing to be confirmed or received, please speak to me by April 10. In prepara-

tion for this visit, I will offer an abbreviated “Episcopal Church 101” program on Sundays after church and

again on Thursdays at 11:30, to review the structure, history and theology of the Episcopal Church. These

are open to all. If neither of these times works for you, please let me know and I’ll work out a time for us to

meet.

On Sunday, June 5, we will experience our first Multi-generational Christian Formation Day. We will

gather at 10:30 as usual, but we will start in small groups by age and/or interest, to learn about the Lord’s

Prayer from many different perspectives. We will continue with an informal worship service around 11:15 or

so (maybe outside, if the weather cooperates!) and finish up with a (picnic?) lunch where we can share with

each other the things we discovered that morning. It will mean a slightly longer morning but I hope you will

find it fun and want to do more through the summer!

I have also asked the Bible Study group to shift our regular meeting to Wednesdays at 11:30. Bring a lunch

and a Bible (if you have one—we can always provide one if you don’t!) I will meet with anyone interested on

Wednesday, April 6, to decide what we want to study next. This is not the “Women’s” Bible study! It is open

to all.

During my first summer here, I invited anyone interested to Lunch with Nancy, to give me an opportunity to

get to know you in smaller groups. I am reissuing the invitation this summer. On the third Thursday of May,

June, July and August, please feel free to bring a lunch and join me at 11:30 for an informal time of fellow-

ship. If you can't make it here that day, I am offering time at Trinity on the third Tuesdays of June, July and

August (and perhaps May, if I don’t go to a conference in VA).

Finally, keep an eye open for news about a developing relationship with The Progress Center in Norway.

More information about the ways that these two congregations can support this wonderful organization will

be in the next Beehive.

Blessings to you all,

SPRING CLEAN UP and LUNCH

SUNDAY APRIL 17, 2016

11:30AM TO 1PM

+

Get ready for the annual Spring Clean Up. We’ll start after the Sunday morning Eucharist and work until around 1pm.

A “make your own sandwich” lunch will be available at the end of the clean up. This will give us an opportunity to relax over a bite to eat and enjoy each others company.

Please join us and bring your rake, gloves, buckets, clippers and what ever gardening tools you have. It should be a fun time getting the grounds ready for the summer season.

- Doug Wall

He is risen! He is risen indeed, but He is not the only one.

As I look around my gardens I notice that many flowers and the foliage of later blooming plants

and flowers have risen. Spring is here and with it the promise of new life.

On farms lambing will soon take place, baby goats will arrive, horses will produce heirs and of

course Paris Farmers’ Union will be filling orders for baby chicks and ducklings.

We all have survived the cold and gloom of our almost winter season and are so ready to welcome

sun, warm and soft rains, breathe in warm air and get our hands in the dirt. We are so ready to

welcome a renewal of life.

With the Resurrection we have been given the chance for a renewal of our spiritual lives. Christ

died for the redemption of our sins and we have been given a tabula rasa. What will we do with

this opportunity?

As we prepare for the arrival of a new generation of animals, as we prepare our garden soil for a

new season of perennials and the planting of seeds, are we also preparing our souls for a renewal

of our faith – for a new way to serve God by serving our brothers and sisters who are suffering the

ravages of war and terrorism, hunger, homelessness, sickness, and addiction?

For us Jesus made the greatest sacrifice of all. He gave His life for us. Are we ready to sacrifice our time and gifts for the benefit of our brothers and sisters who are in need?

Rev. Lanny

Camp Scholarships

Christ Church will be again offering camp scholarships to Camp Bishopswood (3) and to Camp Susan Curtis.

This is a wonderful opportunity for our youth. They will have a lifetime of memories from their summer camp experience. I know that I did.

If you are interested, please notify Nancy+, anyone on the outreach committee, or the church office.

FOR WISDOM

From A Common Prayer by Michael Leunig

Let us pray for wisdom.

Let us pause from thinking and empty our

mind.

Let us stop the noise.

In the silence let us listen to our heart;

The heart which is buried alive.

Let us be still and wait and listen carefully:

A sound from the deep, from below.

A faint cry.

A weak tapping.

Distant muffled feelings from within.

The cry for help.

We shall rescue the entombed heart.

We shall bring it to the surface, to the light and

the air.

We shall nurse it and listen respectfully to its

story…

the heart’s story of pain and suffocation,

of darkness and yearning.

We shall help our feelings to live in the sun.

Together again we shall find relief and joy.

Amen.

(Prayer used at the Center for Wisdom’s Women in

Lewiston. www.wisdomswomen.org)

COMMUNITY CLOTHING GIVE AWAY

The “3-C’s”

Just in time for spring cleaning…

The spring clothing give-away is scheduled for

Saturday, April 30, from 8 AM—Noon at the

Norway Grange Hall on Whitman Street. This

is very informal, with clothing, cookies and

beverages on the first floor, and housewares

on the second floor. There is a real need for

these basic items in the Oxford Hills, and the

line forms outside the hall up to half an hour

before the doors open.

This important community event is sponsored

by the Bolsters Mills and Deering Memorial

Methodist Churches and the Norway Grange.

Clothing, bedding, towels and small appliances

are collected for distribution to those in need in

our area. Boxes are available in the Guild

Room to receive donations, and a basket is

there to receive cash contributions for the pur-

chase of new underwear and socks.

Set up will take place at the Grange Hall Mon-

day through Friday (from 9—2) preceding the

Saturday Give Away. Help is needed to unload

cars and trucks, sort, fold and display the

items donated and to provide cookies. Be-

cause this becomes a quasi-social event, peo-

ple are also needed to be available for conver-

sation and refreshment duty on Saturday.

This is a good way to participate in an estab-

lished event and help others in our community.

The program has operated in the spring and

fall over the past several years and has assist-

ed many hundreds of our neighbors.

For more information, contact Peter Ham-

mond or Christine Hebert at 743-5277.

Biblical Pronunciation Resource

Below is a link to a resource that is helpful to lectors on how to pronounce difficult names, places, or words in the Bible: http://www.netministries.org/resources/resource-pronunciation-guide This resource includes both a phonetic repre-sentation as well as an audio sound file of the word's pronunciation of the words in its data-base.

Many thanks to Carolyn Tanner for the work-shop she led for lectors earlier this winter!

Graces at Dr Johnson's Camps (from the 1950's)

Morning grace: “God has created a new day, Silver and green and gold. Live that the sunset may find us Worthy his gifts to hold.”

Noonday grace: “For health and strength and daily bread we praise thy name O Lord.”

Evening grace: “If we have earned the right to eat this bread, Happy indeed are we; But if unmerit-ed Thou giv'st to us, May we more thankful be.

Each of these graces were sung every day at camp and were part of my summers for three years. And they have been part of my life ever since. Much of my love of nature and the ability to enjoy be-ing outdoors comes from the summers at Camp Three Pines and at the family cottage on Norway Lake.

They combine my love of nature, singing hymns and having an attitude of gratitude.

During Lent I have been more intentional about expressing gratitude and spending time reflecting on the hymns we sing and what these graces mean to me. The morning grace expresses my joy and welcoming the day and keeps me in a place of acknowledging gifts that surround us on a daily basis. This month's photo is one of the early morning joys of seeing the “golden hour” light shortly after dawn and setting the heart to thankfulness. In this “in between season” it is the gold on the tree trunks and branches. Before we know it the green will begin appearing.

At midday, its acknowledging and being refreshed by the health and strength of daily nourishment. With the end of the day it is both the questioning of being worthy of “His gifts” as well as the sense of gratefulness that God provides so much on a daily basis that I have to be more intentional about recognizing and acknowledging my thankfulness. I'm still a work in progress.

Will you join me in the sharing of our life journeys? Will you write a guest article for the Beehive about yourself, or what keeps you connected and involved with Christ Church? What do you con-sider to be one of your “ministries”?

PALM SUNDAY 2016

CHRIST CHURCH

Parish Profile: SUE EMERSON

As a new member of the Vestry representing the Wednesday morning worship group, I was asked to write a piece for the Bee-hive about myself and my connections to Christ Church.

I have lived in Maine with my husband, Hank, for 40 years and have been a member of Christ Church since 1976. We raised our two daughters here. Wendy now lives in California and Jen-nifer in Idaho. After our girls graduated from high school, we started attending the 8 o'clock Sunday morning worship ser-vice. Now as our church has gone through changes, I am enjoy-ing the Wednesday morning Eucharist.

Through the years, I have been involved in lots of things at Christ Church. I sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served on the Vestry, served on a search committee, currently serving as a Eucharistic minister, make home visits to parishioners who can't get to church very often, and now I am back on the Vestry.

For me, Christ Church is not just "a church". It is a wonderful family of friends coming together to worship and serve. I look forward to serving on the Vestry and if you don't know me, you'll proba-bly find me at the church on Wednesday mornings.....except when we are visiting our kids and grand kids.

God's peace and love to you all. - Sue Emerson

It is a great joy to share with you that there were 35 to 40 purses filled with daily necessities and feminine products that were delivered to Wisdom's Women on Internationals Women's Day. A big thank you to all who participated in this supportive outreach project. This activity was successful due to the commitment and the generosity of efforts of the parishioners of Christ Church, Bethel House Church and Bethel Congregational Church. My thanks to Rosemary Laban for bringing all the purses gathered in Bethel, to Sue Herlihy of Bethel house Church for sharing the information of the project with the Congregational Church women and for the generosity of all who contribut-ed to this personal type of outreach. Susan Dovell and Barbi Tinder journeyed to Lewiston to de-liver 3 bins full of purses and products. One of the board members gave us a tour of the facility. She is a young woman who first came to the program to receive their services and who proudly told us she now has a job and is serving on Wisdom Women's board. She gave us a tour of the program speaking with passion about the activities they provide. We learned that the staff were concerned that their goods cupboard was getting very low and they didn't know how they could replenish it. The cupboards were very close to overflowing by the time all the products were stored! Thank you to each of you who participated/contributed to this project and know that your help is greatly appreciated by both the staff and the participants at Wisdom's Women.
