Dear Porsche Club Presidents,Dear Porsche Club Members,

the team is complete – and has been re-structured! Once Paul Gregor had joinedthe team (see report in issue 1 ⁄ 07), wehave been able to reorganise the dutiesand areas of responsibility.

As you can see from the organisationalstructure on page 14, each of the individ-ual markets, broken down by continentsand regions, is now supported by a specificcontact person.

This will allow the Porsche Club Coordina-tion team to respond even more effectivelyto your needs and requests than before. The corresponding contact E-mail ad-dresses can also be found on page 14. Ofcourse, the team members will be intro-ducing themselves to you in person, andthey are looking forward to visiting variousevents during the year.

As our head of sales, Klaus Berning, hintedin his foreword for 2007, there are plentyof reasons to look forward to this year. A

host of exciting events are once again onthe agenda: the International 356 Meetingin Sitges, which we mention again in theevents calendar, the Porsche Club Days atFrancorchamps in May, the USA Parade inSan Diego in July and the Porsche ClubDeutschland Treffen, which will be cele-brating 25 years of existence this year.

All in all, as was the case in 2006, theevents calendar is packed with somethingfor everybody. Of course, we will be re-porting details of the most importantevents in our forthcoming issues. You canalso find out about our calendar of eventsat www.porsche.de. There, you also havethe option of entering your own Clubdates.

Alongside all of this, the Porsche TravelClub is offering a range of exciting events,as you can see in the report on the newtour of Germany, which takes in Bavaria, the Black Forest and Heidelberg. And thePorsche Sports Cup will be expanding its

programme again this season, while thePorsche Sport Driving School will be prov-ing that “going back to school” can involvean exciting sporting experience, anywherein the world. Proof of this can be found inthe report from the Porsche Club Korea, which hosted the Porsche Sport DrivingSchool to mark its 20th anniversary.

We hope that 2007 will be a prosperousand eventful year for everyone and wish allour Clubs every success for their projectsand events.

1. News from the Porsche AG

A perfect launch for Stuttgart’s PorscheArena – shareholders, SupervisoryBoard members and journalists were allthrilled by the first Annual General Meet-ing in the new, state of the art hall. TheChairman of Porsche’s ManagementBoard, Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking, com-mented that it was “Just brilliant ! The at-mosphere, the mood – everything fits. The arena is really fun.”

The positive mood was based on hardfacts. In the completed 2005 ⁄ 2006financial year, Porsche once again beat

The splendid results for last year and the extremely positive signs for thenew financial year created high spirits at Porsche AG’s Annual General Meeting. It was held on 26th January, at the new Porsche Arena for the firsttime. There was plenty of applause and praise, as the 4,000 shareholders inattendance honoured the company’s successful work over the past twelvemonths. There was one sad note – with the departure of Supervisory BoardChairman Prof. Dr. Helmut Sihler (76). With Dr.Wolfgang Porsche, a memberof the founding family will once again be at the head of the supervisory body.

Talks on the podium: The outgoing Supervisory BoardChairman, Prof. Dr. Helmut Sihler, his successor Dr. Wolfgang Porsche andChairman of the Management Board,Dr. Wendelin Wiedeking (left to right)

all previous records – vehicle sales up9.5 percent, Group turnover up 10.6percent and annual net profit up by anamazing 80 percent. The shareholders’good mood reached a peak when theyheard that even these records can bebeaten. For the first six months of thecurrent 2006 ⁄ 07 financial year (1st Au-gust 2006 to 31st January 2007), theGroup’s preliminary figures show pre-tax profits of 1.45 billion Euros – com-pared to 277.8 billion Euros in the sameperiod last year. Profits after tax are setto reach 1.05 billion Euros (last year:

169.8 million Euros). Further improve-ments to the model mix have made amajor contribution to these profit in-creases. The sports car series pro-vided positive impetus in the first sixmonths. Sales figures for the 911 were17,340 (up 15.7 percent). The Boxsterand Cayman raced ahead by 21.5 per-cent to 12,170 units.

However, once again it was special influ-ences associated with our investment inVolkswagen that were mainly responsi-ble for the leap in profits.

Farewell: Chairman of the Management Board, Dr.Wendelin Wiedeking, presented the outgoing Supervisory Board Chairman, Prof. Dr. Helmut Sihler, with a Porsche share.

For example, income from hedgingtransactions associated with the acqui-sition of VW shares was well over a hun-dred million Euros. In addition, the reval-uation of our increased holding of VWshares, which is now 27.4 percent of or-dinary shares, had a 520 million Europositive impact on our results. However, the result also includes negative factorssuch as the development costs for thePanamera, amounting to over a hundredmillion Euros.

For the full 2006 ⁄ 07 financial year,Porsche is aiming to match the highsales figures of the previous year.Growth markets in Eastern Europe andAsia will make a significant contributionto this. “Your company Porsche is on avery good path”, Wiedeking told share-holders.

He then led the farewells to Prof. Dr. Hel-mut Sihler, who has worked alongsideand supported the Porsche boss for 14years as Chairman of the SupervisoryBoard. “His philosophical way of lookingat things and his diplomatic skills haveplayed a crucial part in shaping the suc-cessful development of the company”,Wiedeking said. Sihler was clearlymoved and looked back over his 14years in office, praising the co-operationwithin the Supervisory Board and withthe Management Board. “Co-determina-tion means sharing responsibility. AtPorsche, this co-operation is somethingthat is lived out every day.”

Carrera Edition 01 ⁄ 07

On this January morning, it was not easyto get down to the items on the agenda. Everybody in the hall knew that it wasthe last time that Prof. Dr. Helmut Sihlerwould be chairing the Porsche AnnualGeneral Meeting, the last time that hewould be bringing shareholders underhis spell with an incomparable mix ofhumour, eloquence and sharp-tonguedcomments. “It is a real shame that he isleaving”, whispered one lady on thefloor.

Sihler’s era in charge is closely linkedwith the recent Porsche success story. He joined the Supervisory Board in1993, right in the middle of the com-pany’s crisis, and was elected as itsChairman. For 14 years, he stood shoul-der to shoulder with Chairman of theManagement Board Dr.Wendelin Wiede-king, and together they shaped the turn-around and the company’s rise to be-come the world’s most profitable carmanufacturer. Helmut Sihler, who also

carved out his niche in German businesshistory at Henkel and Telekom, can nowtake his retirement with an immenseamount of pride in what he hasachieved. But why isn’t he staying on fora while? “You cannot stop the passageof time. In two months, I will be 77”, washis simple answer.

“I just cannot imagine an Annual GeneralMeeting without Sihler”, Wiedeking ad-mitted. “He has been a godsend for me.As an inexperienced Chairman of theManagement Board, the best thing thatcould have happened to me in 1993 wasto get the chance to work alongsidehim. I have learned a lot from ProfessorSihler. I will never forget what he hasdone for me.” Even though, as Wiedek-ing emphasised “it is not the normalpractice to present gifts at Annual Gen-eral Meetings”, he presented the outgo-ing Supervisory Board Chairman with aframed Porsche share on the podium. The Porsche boss had bought it a fewdays before – paid for out of his ownpocket. Of course, the gift also had adeeper meaning – the hope that Sihlerwill maintain a close relationship withPorsche. The share will act as an entrypass, meaning that the retired Supervi-sory Board Chairman will be able to at-tend future Annual General Meetings.

The Supervisory Board has elected Dr.Wolfgang Porsche (63) as its new Chair-man. The son of Ferry Porsche, and witha doctorate in business, he is an ordi-nary shareholder and has been a mem-ber of the supervisory body since 1978.In addition, he is a member of the Super-visory and Advisory Boards of variousPorsche sales companies.

At the same time as Sihler, bankerWalther Zügel (73), a Porsche institutionwho joined the Supervisory Board back

in 1980, is also leaving office. Hans-Peter Porsche and Prof. Ulrich Lehner(60) have been elected to the Board.Hans-Peter Porsche is one of the foursons of Ferry Porsche. From 1971, hewas the head of production and a mem-ber of the Executive Board of the formerPorsche KG. Ulrich Lehner is Chairmanof the Executive Board at Düsseldorf’sHenkel Group.

Back in the autumn of 2006, MariaArenz from the legal department re-signed her post as management repre-sentative on the Supervisory Board, andshe retired from the company. Dr. Lud-wig Hamm has been elected to theboard to replace her. He has worked atPorsche since 1974 and is responsiblefor the auto body department in theWeissach Development Centre.

It is a beautiful morning in the Provence– the sun is shining down and all youcan hear is the birds singing. Then thelights change to green on the Le Castel-let plateau. In the cockpit of the RSSpyder, Sascha Maassen starts theengine, slides down his helmet visor

After completing this tough 24-hour endurance test in Le Castellet and winter training in Sebring, the RSSpyder is well prepared for the challenges of the 2007 season. For the first time, sports prototypes for customer teams have been produced at the factory in Weissach.

and roars out of the pit lane. The peaceis at an end.

The 24-hour test on the Circuit PaulRicard in Southern France was the startof the final countdown to the 2007season for the new RSSpyder. The en-

hanced winning car from the AmericanLe Mans Series 2006 had already com-pleted five endurance tests on the teststand in the Weissach developmentcentre, but these are no substitute forreal test drives. As Roland Kussmaul, head of motorsport performance de-velopment, explains: “Most problemsonly come to light once you get out onthe track.”

And so it proved – after four lapsSascha Maasen returned to the pits. The air pressure in his right rear tyre

Well represented

In the 2007 season, nine Porsche fac-tory drivers will be operating world-wide. The two cockpits in the RS Spyderin the American Le Mans Series (ALMS)will be occupied by Sascha Maassen(Belgium) and Ryan Briscoe (Australia),and by Timo Bernhard (Germany) andRomain Dumas (France).

In Sascha Maassen and Jörg Berg-meister (Germany), Porsche has thereigning ALMS champions in the LMP2and GT2 classes in its ranks for thefirst time. As well as Briscoe, whocame from the American IndyCarseries, Austrian Richard Lietz is anothernew member of the driving team.

was suddenly not right. Jens Maurerand his colleagues identified the prob-lem. The engineers in the commandcentre behind the pits monitor around200 parameters using telemetry datatransmitted from the car to their lap-tops. Of these, 80 percent relate to en-gine data – from the intake temperatureto the ignition angle.

For the endurance test under racingconditions, 18 engineers and mechan-ics had travelled over from Weissach. The Penske Motorsport team, whichruns the RS Spyder in the USA with sup-port from Porsche, had sent ten menacross the Atlantic. Six factory driversput the RS Spyder through its paces. Al-ways at the limit – and sometimes be-

yond. “We always try to look at theworst case scenario”, explains RolandKußmaul. “If you don’t do that, you willdefinitely pay dearly for it later.”

Hard testing and reliability in a race –this is Porsche’s formula for success. As the defending champion, tests inFrance and Sebring provided optimumpreparation for the new season. It be-gins on 17th March in Sebring, with the12-hour race.

While the test team were trimming theRS Spyder for the first race, other sportsprototypes were being constructed atthe factory in Weissach – for customerteams for the very first time. The firstof them, for US team Dyson Racing, was delivered in mid-January.

The Worldwide Club Coordination Team has been growing constantly in recent times, but fromthe beginning of this year it has had a full complement of staff. This provided a welcome op-portunity to introduce a new organisational structure based on markets.

The advantages are obvious – from now on Clubs will have a personal contact and can look for-ward to even more focused and intensive support. In particular, the new structure will enableus to deal with market-specific requirements and requests in the most effective way. In turn, the members of the Club Coordination team will now have a more specific distribution of re-sponsibilities and a more structured working environment.

In addition to numerous ongoing projects for the Club scene, the Porsche Club News willcontinue to be co-ordinated by Anne Philipp and factory visits by Mathias Menner. The team’sspeaker, Sandra Mayr, will be happy to deal with any queries or issues from all markets.

The split by markets looks like this:

Return to sender, address unknown… We all know the song!Unfortunately, as well as being a famous hit by the King ofRock ’n’ Roll, it can be an annoying reality. We have all hadsomething important to send, report or announce. But it hasbeen returned to sender. Address unknown!

It is something that often happens to the Worldwide ClubCoodination Team. We only find out that a President is nolonger in office, the Club has moved or the Secretary haschanged when important mail to the Clubs comes back to us. Therefore, it is important for the Porsche Club Coodination tohave an Club database that is always up to date.

To this end, we kindly ask you to notify immediately thePorsche Club Coordination of any changes to your committee,

President or Secretary and any changes of contact details. This way, we can avoid “Return to sender…” in the future.Even though we like the song.

Porsche Design Driver’s SelectionFit for golf: Cutting a good figure with Porsche

The fairway is like a fitness centre –golf is hard work, but extremely goodfor you. A round of 18 holes takes anaverage of four hours and the bodyburns around 1,200 calories during thistime. A correct tee shot works 124 ofthe 600 muscles in the body. Medicalprofessionals are also sure that relax-ation and movement in natural sur-roundings are good for the brain, im-prove perspective and increase mentalstrength. Perhaps this explains why somuch business is concluded on golfcourses. This is clearly demonstratedby just one example from the USA: At atournament in North Carolina, execu-tives are said to have agreed a 25 bil-lion dollar deal between two tee shots.

The new collection from Porsche De-sign Driver's Selection provides youwith the perfect outfit for the golfcourse. Even if you are playing forpleasure, not business.

The Porsche Cayenne is a versatile performer – on every type of terrain. The more the driver demands from the car, the more it’s in its element. Thanks to the Michelin Latitude series, the same applies for the tyres. For the new

Porsche Cayenne, Michelin has developed some new tyres with modest rolling resistance and therefore better fuel economy without any compromise in the performances. This is the reason why it can bear the N-designation – the

sign of Porsche quality.

“Runway Ride” – Porsche Club Hamburg on Sylt islandPorsche Club Hamburg

All clear! For the Porsche ClubHamburg’s autumn meeting, orga-nisers opened up the manoeuvringarea at the airport on Sylt island.

The extensive asphalt strip calledfor the driver to be in total harmonywith his machine. A special coursehad been laid out that demandedcontrolled manoeuvres and sportydriving.

The Porsche Club Hamburg was ori-ginally founded in 1983, but was reorga-nised in 2006 and is now more activethan ever. One of the sporting and so-cial highlights of the season was theweekend on Sylt island, from 20th to22nd October 2006.

The ADAC driving safety centre in Lüne-burg had professionally prepared themanoeuvring area at the airport for

“advanced driver safety training”. Theevent was supported by the PorscheCentre Hamburg, the Porsche ClubDeutschland and the Club Support atPorsche Deutschland GmbH.

Engines were running at high speedson the 1.9 kilometre course. The aim ofthe event was to improve control of thevehicle in a range of exercises fea-turing different driving dynamics. Theparticipating vehicles ranged all theway from classics like a 1973 PorscheCarrera RS through to the CayenneTurbo S. There were also current on-road sports cars, such as the 911 GT3RS and a 997 GT3, which gave thewhole driving event a sporting flavour. One particularly demanding challengewas the aquaplaning course, which hadbeen set up on the adjacent marine air-field. Many of the drivers found it hardto maintain a grip on the road, and theirskidding wheels tore up plenty of grassfrom the asphalt as they battled tokeep control.

The sporting part of the event was fol-lowed by the social element, on the Fri-day evening in the Pius wine tavern inKeitum. Saturday saw a relaxed gathe-ring at Sansibar, the “official” Porschebase on the island.

The next event at the airport in Sylt willbe held from 13th to 15th April 2007.Further information about forthcomingevents, as well as full details about thePorsche Club Hamburg, can be foundon the Internet at www.porsche-club-hamburg.de.

25 years of the Porsche Club Trier – small but powerfulPorsche Club Trier

It was 7th October 1981 when twoPorsche enthusiasts from Trier andthe Eifel region founded the PorscheClub Trier. Gilbert Haufs-Brusbergand Dietmar Gehrke placed a single-column advertisement in the news-paper “Trierischer Volksfreund”, in-viting all Porsche enthusiasts to thefirst Club evening at the “Zum Dom-stein” hotel.

They expected five or six other fans toturn up. As things turned out, 13 enthu-siasts responded to the invitation. Theyquickly agreed that the Porsche ClubTrier should be registered as an officialorganisation. Nowadays, the Club ismade up of around 20 members fromBernkastel-Kues, Bitburg, Ettelbrück (Lu-xembourg), Gerolstein, Hockweiler, Konz,Prüm, Rommersheim, Sirzenich andTrier.

Since the beginning of the year, theyhave been planning a special celebration– to be held on 7th October, of course. Avery special backdrop was chosen as thevenue – the venerable Porta Nigra, theRoman gate in Trier.

Gilbert Haufs-Brusberg, President fromday one, and his wife Christa took chargeof the organisation. They managed to ob-tain sponsorship from the Bitburger brew-ery and the Porsche Centre Trier. Theartist Andreas Hentrich, who producesabsolutely unique images of cars in tin, spontaneously promised a private exhibi-tion featuring his most famous picturesas part of the supporting programme.

On the big day, 7th October 2006, al-most all former and current Club mem-bers met for a ceremony at the PorscheCentre Trier. Between the courses of thegala dinner, master of ceremonies Gil-bert Haufs-Brusberg reviewed the history

of the Porsche Club Trier. His words wereaccompanied by a slide show featuringcontemporary documents and photogra-phs. The evening was rounded off with afilm about the 2005 Karwendel Trophy, inwhich several Club members took part.To mark his 25 years as President of thePorsche Club Trier, the artist AndreasHentrich presented Gilbert Haufs-Brus-berg with a unique work of art – a 911 SCTarga, model year 1981.

Then, as is always the case at a PorscheClub event, it was time for some sportingcompetition. While the ladies battled to

be the best on the golf course, while themen were giving their all on the racetrack.

The successful event concluded with thelaunch of a balloon race into the midnightsky.

Back to school – 20 years of the Porsche Club in KoreaPorsche Club Korea

From 3rd to 5th November 2006,the Porsche Sport Driving School re-turned to Korea during the celebra-tions to mark 20 years of the Club. And it was on a much grander scalethan before.

The event on the new 2.6 kilometre An-san Race Track was made up of threedifferent programmes for three groupsof drivers. Everybody had the chance toexperience the fascination of Porschefirst hand, while advertising the reorgani-sation of the Porsche Club Korea.

The first day was open to Porsche dri-vers and the general public. The secondand third days were reserved exclusivelyfor members of the Porsche Club Korea.

On Saturday, only high performancevehicles such as the 911 Turbo and theCarrera GT, and vehicles with manualgearboxes were allowed to participate inAdvanced Sports Driving School training.Porsche had sent two of its very best in-structors to Korea for the Sports DrivingSchool event. Patrik Huenninger andMarco Seefried led the team of instruc-tors and, with their extensive experienceas racing drivers and teachers, theywere able to demonstrate to membersand customers how to push a Porscheand its driver to the limit while stayingwithin clear safety boundaries.

A total of fifty participants, including twoyoung ladies, took the opportunity to im-prove their driving skills. There was alsoa very warm welcome for family mem-bers and friends of the participants, whohad the chance to experience optimumPorsche performance on a racetrack.

All the drivers and co-drivers learnedmuch more about their vehicles and theirown driving style.

Training began with an introduction todriving theory and physics. Then it wastime to leave classroom and get out onthe track. There, participants were gui-ded through slalom, braking and “idealline” training in their own vehicles. Finally, they had the chance to drive theentire circuit, guided by the instructors.

In fine weather, go-karting was availablebetween meals and guests also enjoyedan exclusive “sneak preview” of the new911 Targa 4. The entire Porsche productrange was on display in the hospitalityarea throughout the event, which not onlyattracted a great deal of attention butalso proved popular with photographers.

The highlight of each day was driving“hot laps” accompanied by the instruc-tors. This was everyone’s chance to un-leash the full performance potential oftheir Porsches, and to apply what theyhad learned during the day.

The lap by four Carerra GTs at 330 km/h,followed by 911 Turbos at 310 km/hand other Porsche models reminded usall of the rapid development of Porschein Korea during the last 20 years.

This Porsche “traffic jam” on the trackwas far too spectacular to keep to our-selves. Two local media outlets were in-vited to report on the event. The grand

finale of the event was the presentationof prizes for “Best slalom”, “Best drivingstyle” and a “special prize” awarded tothe best driver of each day.

There is no doubt that our guests sawthe straights and corners in a differentlight on their way home than when theyarrived that morning.

This three-day anniversary event was anunforgettable weekend for the PorscheClub Korea team, and will be repeated atleast twice a year from now on.

We would like to thank all newly certifieddrivers, our sponsors, and the organisersfor making the event possible. The week-end demonstrated the true spirit ofPorsche from start to finish.

Crime – Technology – CulturePorsche Club Göppingen

The Porsche Club Göppingen helda “murderous celebration” at thePorsche Centre Göppingen on 8thSeptember 2006 to mark the beginning of its anniversary week.

A festively decorated birthday tableawaited members, marking the 60thbirthday of Lord Heartsborough. How-ever, before the starters had evenbeen served, the “host” fell victim topoison.

The 44 amateur detectives then set ab-out finding the perpetrator in an inter-active murder mystery game, inter-spersed with scenes acted out byprofessionals and the courses of a mag-nificent buffet. The “Creative Partners”theatrical group did a perfect job of in-volving the Porsche Club members inthe scenes. Whether it was a mafiaboss or a priest – they unerringly chosethe appropriate amateurs performerfrom the audience and incorporatedthem into the action. Like all good“whodunnits”, the 3 hours of excite-ment and entertainment had a twist atthe end and thrilled the Porsche Clubmembers gathered for the anniversarycelebrations. The clever combinationof theatre, crime and dinner provided“murderously” good entertainment.

Afterwards, Vice President Helmut Sternpresented the organisers, Dr. GerdMüller and Klaus Heschke, with the firstcopies of the 70-page anniversary bro-chure. President Dr. Gerd Müller revie-wed some of the many highlights of thelast 10 years. On the stroke of mid-night, a toast was drunk to mark theClub’s birthday.

On 13th September, members metagain at the Porsche Centre Göppingenin wonderful weather. They then set off

in a high speed convoy to Zuffenhausen. After an introduction to the PorscheMuseum, they were split up into twogroups for the factory tour. At thesports car factory, the term “manufac-ture” takes on a whole new meaning.

Next on the agenda was a visit to Por-sche Classic. Here, unrestored historicvehicles can be compared with gemsthat have already been returned to theirglorious former states. From the Porsche356 to the 959, almost every serieswas represented. The staff provided fa-scinating information, and were happyto talk shop. The day ended with dinner

below the Stuttgart television tower inthe “Primafila” restaurant.

At the invitation of the Managing Direc-tor of the Porsche Centre Göppingen,Klaus Heschke, a performance of theoperetta “Vogelhändler” in the Stauferpark in Göppingen brought a success-ful and entertaining week of anniver-sary celebrations to an end.
