This combined with a national network of registered instructors and assessors helps us to be both flexible with course booking and reduce incurred travel expenditure.

In today’s financial climate it’s more important than ever to look after your outgoings. With this in mind we aim to offer competitively priced services whilst still retaining our high quality.

Additionally we can also provide many different funding solutions for either private individuals or businesses looking to re-skill their workforce.

Our aim is to provide a progressive training path for all delegates that not only widens their skill base and increases versatility, but guides them through a chosen career to advanced levels.

A Major Force in Workplace Training

Established in 1992 originally as RMB Training Services by Managing Director Richard Bingham from home in Shropshire, we quickly became synonymous with high quality training, assessment and consulting in the industrial mechanical handling sector.

As the years passed by the company grew to include an ever larger number of trainers based around the UK. To accommodate this increase in size more office space was required and Richard’s home was extended!

In 2001 the acquisition of APTT Ltd. by RMB Training Services was complete. With this new move came a medium sized training and administration centre in Wrexham which for the first time allowed us to offer on and off site courses to our increasing portfolio of customers.

Pamela Bingham took on the role of company secretary with her keen eye for detail in the fields of accounts, advertising and training materials the bar for quality was once again raised.

In 2002 APTT broke into the HGV, LGV and PCV training sector with the purchase of Shropshire Road Transport Training from Mike Bowler, who is still to this day one of our close and entrusted instructors. With this expansion came a new road transport training focused centre based on the Rednal Airfield, Nr. Oswestry, Shropshire.

In early 2008 after many years of successful expansion the company was once again on the move to new premises. This effectively enabled the company to double in size with a large twin classroom training centre, new state of the art equipment and extra administration staff led by Support Manager Phil Jones who was recruited some years earlier for his logistic and management skills.

Towards the end of 2008 Jason Bingham was recruited as Business Development Director. Having over a decade of experience in design, development and marketing for the print and web industry has enabled the company to provide new online services, improve training materials and focus on development in new training sectors.

Late 2009 saw the move into CPCS with the development of a 2 acre dedicated construction training centre featuring the latest equipment, facilities and a new highly experienced training team.

1. All candidates must first attend a course of Basic Operator Training on a Counterbalance Group A Lift Truck up to 5 ton or Reach Truck.

2. After gaining experience they can move onto Group B trucks of any type.

3. Group C trucks are treated separately and trained as individual pieces of equipment.

Additional Notes: Example: Department has 20 drivers using Pendant Cranes:

● Break 20 into groups of a manageable size that can be released from department

● Complete part i of the assessment process. They can then return to the department

● In ones or twos they will be called back to complete sections ii, iii and iv

● This reduces the impact on the department without reducing the standards

If additional training is required for a candidate they can be integrated into the normal training program at a level that will meet their needs.

Site Safety Audit

Course Duration: 2 hour course see below.




Intended Candidates: For those who work in an office environment or similar.

Course Ratio:30/40 Candidates and 1 Instructor.

Course Requirements● Classroom

● Projector and screen

On Completion:The candidates will receive a certificate of basic operator training, skill licence, entry onto National Delegate Register (NDR) and photographic I.D. card if requested.


Intended: For Corporations, Companies both Large and Small.Can be tailored down to Department or even Section Level.

Audits: Paper Work Trail, Certificates, Permits to Work and Daily Checks.

Parking, Refuelling Procedures, Refuelling Areas, Security of Vehicles and Operators ability to progress a vehicle in a safe manner.

Work Place House Keeping, Racking System, General Storage Areas and Any areas requested by Company.

During the audit employees will be approached and asked questions regarding Health and Safety within their area. For those who are operating company vehicles they will be asked to produce their permit to work in whatever format thatmaybe, i.e. NDR I.D. Photographic Card for the type of vehicle they are operating. They will also be asked to explain the task they are performing.

On Completion: The assessor’s observation will be matched against up to date legislation, and a report will be made to the company. The incidents within the report will be broken down into High, Medium and Low Risk Areas with the consequences of thecontinual of these practices and suggested actions that you can take to resolve them.

Audit Review: The Audit Report will be reviewed with you as required.

Follow Up Audit: Taking in the observations and time scales of all actions to be taken, a follow up audit will be made.

Manual Handling “Low Risk”

Course Objectives:Candidates who successfully complete the course should be able to:

● Recognise the ethical, legal and financial context of the IOSH Managing Safely Course

● Apply basic management principles and practices to safety and health issues as part of a total management strategy

● Set achievable safety and health objectives and plan and implement courses of action to achieve those objectives

● Recognise safety and health hazards present in the workplace

● Carry out and record basic assessments of the risks associated with workplace hazards, and recommend suitable control measures

● Take account of risks arising from ergonomic factors

● Ensure that adequate information, training and supervision are provided for employees

Course Objectives:Candidates who successfully complete the course should be able to:

● Recognise the ethical, legal and financial context of the IOSH Working Safely Course

● Identify hazards, risks and risks controls and understand the importance of risk assessment with examples of everyday use of risk assessment

● Understand how to take appropriate workplace precautions and their importance in the working environment

● Appreciate the importance of a health & safety management system

● Identify lines of communication with respect to health & safety in their place of work

Intended Candidates: Our Confined Space Awareness courses are specially designed for delegates who require knowledge of safe working practices in a confined space.


On Completion:All delegates will be able to wear and use escape and working breathing apparatus sets in a hazardous environment.

Course Duration: 11 days plus exams.

Intended Candidates: Managers, supervisors and staff from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues. The certificate helps them manage risks effectively.

This certificate is also suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety, providing a valuable foundation for further professional study.


On Completion:Candidates are assessed with written examinations for each of the two taught units. A unit certificate is issued denoting successful achievement of each unit. A Certificate award parchment is issued on completion of the two units and the practical assessment. A practical assessment is arranged and carried out in a simulated workplace environment.

Additional Notes:

Many people take the NEBOSH Certificate as a first step on a career in health and safety. It provides a valuable overview, and is a sound basis for further professional study.

Course Duration: First aid at work training courses are normally delivered over 4 days. Although, training courses can be delivered at times, and within time constraints to meet your individual needs.

Course Duration: Emergency first aid training courses can take as little as 4 hours. The number of delegates taking part in the training course will affect the length of time needed and would then extend it to a whole day.

Course Objectives:Prepare candidate in the safe use of vehicles on a public road and pass the official DVLA practical test.

Intended Candidates: For those who are required to drive large vehicles with a trailer or similar on a public road.

Course Ratio1 Candidate, 1 Instructor and 1 Vehicle.

Course Requirements: ● Large reversing area

● Vehicle of the type which the candidate is to be tested in

On Completion: If successful will have their licence upgraded by DVLA.

Pre-Course Requisite: Hold a valid DVLA provisional licence entitlement and a theory / hazard perception test pass certificate applicable to your chosen category.

LGV ‘C+E’ (Previously HGV 1) Category Training

Course Duration: Dependant on a practical assessment of up to1½ hour. The national average is 20hrs+ course see below.


Intended Candidates: For those who are required to drive large rigid vehicles on a public road.





Pre-Course Requisite: Hold a valid DVLA provisional licence entitlement and a theory / hazard perception test pass certificate applicable to your chosen category.

LGV ‘C1’ & ‘C’ (Previously HGV 2) Category Training

Intended Candidates: For those who are required to drive passenger carrying vehicle on a public road.





Pre-Course Requisite: ● For PCV D1 category you must hold a valid DVLA ‘D1’ category provisional entitlement

● For PCV D category you must hold a valid DVLA ‘D’ category provisional entitlement Both require a theory / hazard perception test pass for ‘D’ category.

Driver CPC Initial Training

Who does Driver CPC apply to?Driver CPC applies to all new and existing drivers who wish to drive professionallyand who require an LGV or PCV licence in order to carry out their job. Existing Drivers (PCV)All drivers of PCV vehicles, holding a category D, D1, D+E or D1+E licence at10th September 2008, will need to complete 35 hours of periodic training before10th September 2013, unless exempt. This also includes drivers who holdD1 entitlement by virtue of passing a car test pre-1997. After this, they will need toundertake a further 35 hours of training every subsequent five-year period in orderto retain their Driver CPC. Existing Drivers (LGV)All drivers of LGV vehicles, holding a category C, C1, C+E or C1+E licence at10th September 2009, will need to complete 35 hours of periodic training before10th September 2014, unless exempt. This also includes drivers who holdC1 entitlement by virtue of passing a car test pre-1997 and drivers who hold HGVclass 1, 2 or 3, gained prior to 1991. After this, they will need to undertake a further35 hours of training every subsequent five-year period in order to retain theirDriver CPC. New DriversNew drivers who gain their initial Driver CPC after 10th September 2008 (PCV) or10th September 2009 (LGV) will immediately begin their cycle of periodic trainingupon receipt of their Driver Qualification Card (DQC) and will need to complete35 hours of training within five years of attaining their initial Driver CPC and thencomplete 35 hours of training every subsequent five years. Periodic Training couldinclude courses in subjects such as Disability Awareness, Tachograph Regulationsand Safe & Fuel-Efficient Driving.

Course Objectives:Prepare candidate in the safe use of vehicle with a trailer on a public road and pass the official DVLA practical test.

Intended Candidates: For candidates who have passed their car test (‘B’ class) after 1st January 1997 and are required to tow a trailer as part of their duties.

Course Ratio1 Candidate, 1 Instructor, 1 vehicle and trailer.




Pre-Course Requisite: Hold a valid DVLA provisional ‘B+E’ entitlement on their licence.

Car / Van and Trailer (B+E) Training and Test

Course Objectives:On completion of this assessment, candidates will have demonstrated:

● Safe use of vehicle with trailer on private and public highway

Intended Candidates: For those who drive a company vehicle and trailer as part of their company duties and have the correct entitlement on their licence.

Course Objectives:● Complete circular checks of vehicles

● Drive vehicle in restricted area

● Candidate will be able to reverse onto loading bays or similar, hitch up, connect and disconnect a trailer for vehicles ‘C+E’ and ‘B+E’

Intended Candidates: For candidates who are required to shunt vehicles within the company premises, private land. Not on public land or highway.

Course Ratio1 Candidate, 1 Instructor, 1 vehicle and trailer (if required).

Additional Notes: Courses may vary dependant on candidate ability and suitability to progress the vehicle carrying out various manoeuvres.

Driver Shunter Training Course Rigid ‘C1’ & ‘C’, Articulated Lorries (C+E), Minibus (D1), Bus (D) Car and Trailer (B+E)Course Duration:

Course Objectives:Candidate will have knowledge of and been tested in all units applied for.

Intended Candidates: For those who transport dangerous goods as part of their duties.

A.D.R. Training

Course Duration: 4 x 2hr Sessions courses see below.

Course Objectives:To prepare candidates for their theory and hazard perception tests prior to upgrade of their licence.

Intended Candidates: For those who are required to pass the above tests prior to taking a practical driving test.

Course Ratio1 Candidate and 1 Instructor (per computer)

Test Location: Test will be taken off site at nearest DVLA theory test centre.

On Completion: Candidate will receive an official DVLA theory test certificate.

Pre-Course Requisite: Driving licence with correct provisional entitlement. APTT Ltd. is able to assistin the application of this licence.

Additional Notes: The candidate should have read and understood the official “Theory test fordrivers of large vehicles” book.

A card scheme to prove the skills of plant operators. CPCS is the largest and most highly recognised card scheme for the plant industry. It helps to prove workers’ operating skills and health and safety awareness.

The Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) provides a single skills card for the plant sector of the construction industry.

Working Towards A Red Trained Operator Card An Operator Is Required To:

● Pass the Construction Skills Health and Safety Test (CSCS) before any testing or training begins (if not passed in the last 2 years)

● Complete any training necessary to bring themselves to the standard required to pass the CPCS Technical Test. This training will be tailored to meet individual requirements and based on a CPCS training syllabus

● Pass CPCS Theory Test

● Pass CPCS Practical Test

Moving From A Red Trained Operator Card To A Blue Competent Operator Card An Operator Is Required To:

● Pass the relevant S/NVQ with the unit appropriate to the category Working towards a Blue Competent Operator card an Operator is required

● Pass the Construction Skills Health and Safety Test before any testing begins (if not passed in last 2 years)

● Complete any training necessary to bring themselves up to the standard required to pass the CPCS Technical Test. This training will be tailored to meet individual requirements and based on a CPCS training syllabus

● Pass the CPCS Theory Test

● Pass the CPCS Practical Test

● Have the relevant S/NVQ, with the unit appropriate to the category of plant required.

CSCS cards are increasingly demanded as proof of occupational competence by contractors, public and private clients and others. They cover hundreds of occupations so whatever you do in construction there will be a card that is suitable for you.
