Aquazone Buffer Tanks for Chilled Water.An Aquazone buffer tank is often incorporated into a chilled water system that has insufficient water volume throughout the piping network in relation to the chiller capacity. By adding a buffer tank to the system, extra volume is created which provides additional “buffer” capacity and eliminates the problems of excessive compressor cycling, poor temperature control and erratic system operation.

In some instances when a large building is undergoing refurbishments or extensions, the capital expenditure of a larger chiller can be deferred, by installing large buffer tanks and utilizing the existing chiller. These tanks are insulated so that the stored water maintains it chilled temperature. This allows the chiller to work extra hours in the day, thus providing extra chilled water which is stored and then used throughout the next day when required.

With the addition of sparge pipes and baffles the Aquazone tanks can be effective Thermal Energy Storage Tanks.As a storage system the Aquazone tank allows the chillerto operate at off-peak times of the day providing the Facility Manager with a possible effective strategy for energycost reductions.

Insulation & CladdingStandard insulation is polyethylene foam in 50mm thicknesswith an outer cladding to encase the insulation.‘R’ valves of 1.8 in accordance with Section J of the Building Code of Australia (BCA). Refer to our separate insulation technical Data sheets for more information.

Thermal Storage TanksAquazone tanks can be provided with internal sparge pipes sothat incoming liquid is dispersed evenly throughout the tank. The resulting temperature stratification coupled with correctly sized insulation provides an effective Thermal Energy Storage Tank for use in chilled and heating water applications.
