1.0 Introduction
1.1 General Purpose of Study
The internship training aim at exposing students to the requirements,
activities and operations involved in working in architectural / construction
practices. The purpose is to facilitate the involvement of students in
professional attachments to architectural practices in order to develop an
understanding of the general nature, principles and procedure of law and
legislation as applied to architectural drawings, especially the Building by-
Laws. Students will also be exposed to the process of authority submission for
various drawing from an architectural practice and the range of contract
documentation produced to support these drawings.
Through a full-time internship attachment, students will further
appreciate the documentation and report-writing skills required of an
employee (architectural assistant / architect) in a typical architect’s firm.

3.0 Training Program
3.1 Training Program Schedule
There is no proper schedule for internship training in PORT 25. We are required
finish the work assigned by the supervisor, Chaw Chee Yoong or other co-workers
within the given amount of time.
3.2 Projects
3.2.1 Colombini Casa Showroom
Overview
Site Location : Jalan Dato Abu Bakar, Petaling Jaya, Selangor
Specification : Commercial lot
Mentor : Lim Su San
Task : i. Submission coloring
ii. Update on drawings
Colombini Casa Showroom is a bungalow turned commercial lot. The design
and layout were planned by Ms. Lim Su San and Mr. Too Kien Kong where the
large partition at the front façade gives off a representation as if the furniture were
displayed on a shelf. I was assigned to color the floor plans and elevations
according to their finishes for later submission to MBPJ (Majlis Bandaran Petaling
Jaya) and also to update the elevations and windows schedule with reasonable
openings to meet the UBBL (Uniform Building By-Laws) requirement.
I was given a day to color and update the drawings to requirement by using
AutoCAD. Ms. Lim Su San has given me some guidance in designing the type of
openings for the showroom and also the color representation for the type of
material used.

Learning Outcome :
Throughout this project, Ms. Lim Su San had introduced me into a building’s
opening requirement based on UBBL and also the drawings required for
submission. I also had learn how to apply appropriate opening to certain spaces
and how it will affect the mood and functionality of space.

Site Location : Kampung Landasan, Seksyen 91A, Kuala Lumpur
Specification : Buddhist Temple
Mentor : Mr. Chaw Chee Yong
Task : i. Fire Escape Stairwell Design and Requirement
ii. Disabled Stair Platform Design
iii. Parking Lot placement
iv. Floor Area Calculations
GuanYinTang Temple is a Buddhist Temple designed for the locals in Cheras.
The design and layout planning have been confirmed and I was assigned the task
to design the disable stair platform according to the specifications given by the
specialist. Furthermore, I was asked to provide some fire escape stairwell to the
temple along with some firefighting equipment as required by the UBBL. The
parking lot amount which corresponds to the built up area are also placed
accordingly where traffic is taken into consideration.
I was given three days to complete the tasks given. My supervisor, Mr.Chaw
Chee Yoong has also guided me along the process to ensure the stairwell provided
meets the UBBL requirement. Furthermore, he also explained some of the
submission drawings requirement such as Bomba requirement and the amount of
parking required to provide.

Learning Outcomes:
Throughout this project, I have learned how the permit application works and
also the variety of local authorities. In addition, I also learned that the parking space
provided corresponds with the built up area, where a formula is given to calculate the
amount of disabled parking and normal parking space a certain building have to
provide. Besides that, I now have a better understanding towards submission
drawing preparation and requirements.

4.0 Conclusion
To conclude my internship experience, I would first like to express my
gratitude to Mr. Chaw Chee Yoong for patiently guiding me throughout the 9 weeks
spent in PORT 25. Despite being busy with projects in hand, Mr. Chaw has taught
me a lot in terms of Building By-Laws requirement and also construction details
and specifications.
Throughout the weeks of internship, it has been a great experience as I was
given the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in construction process and
permit applications. Other than that, it has provided me a chance to be exposed to
projects of different scale which helps me to understand the different matter and
thoughts needed to take into account during design.
After spending 9 weeks of my internship training in PORT 25, I have learned
how to think critically in terms of design and its practicality. Though there may be
some restrictions due to client’s budget, but it can be easily solved by improvising
some of the materials used for the design proposed. In addition, I manage to
improve my communication skills whereby I have learned ways to convey my idea
through diagrams which can be easily understand by laymen.
Finally, I would also like to thank my other co-worker for guiding me along the
way when I have encountered a problem. They have made my stay in PORT 25 an
unforgettable one.
