From the Desk of Kathy Yamane, AHS PTSA President
Dear 8th Grade Parents and Students, I am one of you. Reality struck my 8th grade student last week, the last semester of middle school is now. “I am not ready for high school” and all the little comments pertaining to high school. “My teacher said we’d better be ready for this in high school,” “my friends at high school say….” We parents are attending our first Promo Party meetings and we will be getting ready for the big push off soon. Arcadia High School clubs, Pep Squad and Performing Arts’ students are showing up on our middle school campuses, and strutting their stuff. They know our children must get involved at the high school. Colleges are looking for not only academics but the well-rounded child. Make sure your child finds his or her own niche at the high school. Parents need to get involved too. Your support and encouragement goes a long way. Attend parent meetings. Come to the events on campus. You can even sign up for the list serve and go on the PTSA website. Email Mrs. Tina Lee Rodriguez at [email protected] and she will be happy to add your name to our twice weekly emails. It’s scary to come to the big school, but when your child is involved and has a niche, the school shrinks incredibly fast. The programs with the most parental involvement as always are the more successful on campus. There will be a Spring Preview Day as well as an Orientation for Incoming Freshmen; that’s us, on April 17. The preview begins at 4 p.m., and the Orientation starts at 6 p.m. Please make sure to put this date on your calendar. More information will be coming soon to the middle schools. Please let us know if you have any questions. Most of the construction will be done when your student comes in August and some of your students may be attending AEF summer school, but before that happens, your student will want to come and feel the school out. Dr. Forsee and I will be attending one of your spring PTSA meetings just to get acquainted, but reality has struck both us and your child. “The high school is ours in a few months!” Welcome to AHS, a new opportunity to do something big! FALL PREVIEW DAY—Clubs
This year, Fall Preview Day was held at Dana Middle School on January
24, 2014. Representatives from all different types of clubs were there to provide information to next year's incoming AHS 9th graders in a
“Clubs Day” fashion. It is a great opportunity for 8th graders to learn
all about all the amazing clubs and activities offered at the high school! Being involved in clubs or other extracurricular activities helps students
feel more connected and creates high school memories!
An updated clubs roster can be found on the clubs page of the high
school website, clubs.ahs.ausd.net. Check it out and see what your son or daughter

APACHE ATHLETICS UPDATE
Dear Future Apache Student Athletes and Parents: We have had yet another outstanding first half of the school year at AHS. Our fall athletic teams (football, boys and girls cross country, girls volleyball, girls tennis, girls golf, and boys water polo) finished extremely strong winning Pacific League Championships in 5 out of our 7 sports. The same 5 teams advanced to play in the CIF Southern Section Playoffs. Our girls golf team advanced to the CIF team finals, and our boys cross country team won yet another State Championship! We are in the midst of our winter season at the moment and our winter teams (boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, and girls water polo) are performing great as well. Our girls soccer team is currently undefeated in league and looking to win their 3
rd Pacific League
Championship in a row and our girls basketball team is in the hunt for a Pacific League Championship for the second year in a row. Our facilities have been continuously updated over the past several years and they really are second to none. We completed our brand new stadium a few years back which is spectacular. Our big gym was just completely renovated and it looks amazing. We are also beginning construction on a brand new pool and sports medicine building very soon. Once all of this is completed, there will not be another high school around that can compete with our athletic facilities. We’re definitely excited! As you become closer to being a part of the Apache family, keep an eye out for information on how to get involved in Apache Athletics. Remember, many programs begin the summer prior to starting 9
th grade. Keep your eye out for information in the AEF booklets and AHS Athletics
brochures which will be distributed this spring to each middle school. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions about our athletic program. GO APACHES! Ryan Press Athletic Director Arcadia High School
