FROM THE OFFICE
FEBRUARY 2020 - President’s Day Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents Day after it was moved as part of 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act, an attempt to create more three-day weekends for the nation's workers.
Reminder: Trash Collection Schedule
for Holidays is posted at the Bulletin
Board at each mail box station.
Presidents Days trash pickup will be on
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 18th.

HOA NEWS On January 14, 2020 the HOA held their monthly meeting. On January 13, 2020 we held a special meeting at the Cantina and had our insurance agent in to explain what we were covered for under our policy. During this con-versation we learned that unless your committee, club or activity is sponsored by the HOA, you are not covered under our liability insurance. One of the requirements to be covered is that you must be a member in the HOA and be in good standings, meaning if you are already a member then your dues must be paid by the end of April. If you do not belong to the HOA, you should seri-ously consider joining the HOA, so that you can be pro-tected from being sued if you are involved with a com-mittee, club or activity. We had a guest speaker from the FMO come in to speak to the membership. He recommended that all com-mittees, clubs and activities should be run under the HOA. This will ensure that everyone, that is a member in good standing, running or involved in any kind of com-mittees, club or activity will be covered under the HOA liability insurance. This means that all the above people should sign a form stating that you are part of the HOA Association, and sponsored by the HOA. We will be at the Cantina Clubhouse on Tuesday afternoons from 1 until 2 pm, with the forms that need to be signed. Please come and see us at the Cantina if you need to complete the form. Remember that we have rescinded the Bylaws, so $5.00 will be credited, to anyone that paid their $10.00 dues last year, towards this year’s dues. The turnout for the show on Thursday, January 16 was wonderful. We had approximately 200 people come to see Mark Merchant. He is extremely talented and was very funny. Let’s see if we can get more people to come to the next event, which is Chris Olsen, an Elvis imper-sonator. We are being told he is very, very good. Again, it would be wonderful to see more Arcadia Village resi-dents coming out and enjoying all the evening events that are coming up.
Don’t forget the monthly Board of Directors Meeting, we encourage all residents to come out and hear about what is happening and the changes we are making. Thank you, Cathy Eccleston, Secretary, 578 El Conquistador, 231-557-0382

ELVIS IS IN THE HOUSE (Arcadia Village)!
Where: Cantina Clubhouse
When: February 20th at 7:00 pm
Cost: $10.00 @ the door
THE MEMORIES OF ELVIS Show is performed by CHRIS
OLSON. Chris has performed in Las Vegas, California,
Montana, Wisconsin, South Dakota, Georgia, Florida and
numerous other cities in the U.S. He has brought his
singing talents aboard cruise ships and has done a televi-
sion commercial for Great Clips.
During the winter months Chris and his Memories of ELV-
IS Show can be sighted in Florida, where he works and
lives out the winter months.
Chris often comments that his biggest thrill is to see the
pleased look on the audience faces, hearing their cheers
and screams, giving their approval of his performances.
Most everyone tells Chris they get goose bumps when he
sings the "American Trilogy".
If you have seen Elvis before, and would like a little bit of
that nostalgia to come back to you, or if you haven't had
the opportunity or privilege of seeing Elvis himself, come
see Chris Olson perform his "Memories of Elvis Show".
It's the closest you can get to the King himself! It's a first
class tribute.
Brought to you by your AV Entertainment Committee

GOLF COURSE NEWS
Fresh paint lines have been added to the greens on the
back 9. This allows us to reduce signage and speed up
mowing of the grass. The purpose of these lines is to
keep golf carts from going beyond them. Carts need to
stay away from greens at least 35 ft. Please obey this new
rule. It is very important so that the greens remain in ter-
rific shape.
New Golf tags are now available from Dave Porusta, Lot
456 or Peg Gardner, Lot 682. Cost remains at $500.00 per
household of 2. Registered guests are allowed to play
with paid members. Please have your New Yellow tags
visible on your bags. Rangers are out checking member-
ships.
Keep in mind, the golf course is for golfers who are play-
ing the game. You cannot just ride on the fairways for
pleasure. We have dedicated roads around the lake for
pleasure riding. Please, Please, obey the rules established
for the Golf Course.
The Golf course rules are posted in both clubhouses and
please note that you must use a golf tee on all tee boxes.
DO NOT HIT OFF THE GROUND !!
Thanks for your support and understanding.

GIVER SUPPORT Strollin 4 A Cure will be hosting a Cancer Survivor and
Caregiver Support Group at the Siesta Clubhouse from 6
to 7pm on the second Thursday of each month. One of
our Strollin members who lost her battle with cancer
wanted this to happen before she passed away a few
years ago. It's finally going to become reality. So many
people just need to know they are not alone in how they
feel, dealing with cancer and so many caregivers feel the
weight of the world on their shoulders also. Feel free to
come share your experience with others. This is open to
the public, not just Arcadia Village. We hope to see you
there.

LIONS, TIGERS & BEARS The next two special “Hot Dog Days” at Lions, Tigers and Bears will be Friday, April 10th and Saturday, April 11th, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. (Not March 10th & 11th as stated in last months newsletter.) We are looking for volunteers to work 3 hours a week, 3 hours a month. Our regular hours are Thursday—Sunday, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. The best time to visit is 10:00 am as these ani-mals are night predators and are asleep by noon. On Hot Dog Days we give away hot dogs and drinks. Come see our rare black leopards! Minimum donation of $15 for adults, and minimum donation of $5 for kids. Sorry, debt/credit cards not accepted. Cash or check on-ly. Questions? Call: Susie Mullins, 708 El Presidente, 863-444-0752
CALLING ALL CRIBBAGE PLAYERS We had a rousing turnout for our first cribbage meeting,
scoring 21 points on a single hand. It was a nice mix of
guys and gals.
We have decided to meet on Wednesdays from 3-5:00 in
the kitchen of Cantina Clubhouse. If the table has four
players, it will be a team game, less than four, it will be
an individual game, so there is no worry that there will
not be enough players. We have plenty of boards and
decks of cards, so just bring yourself and your sense of
humor, and enjoy a fun afternoon.
Linda Cramer, 687 El Presidente, 269-993-0849
DO YOU HAVE A WILL? WHAT
YOU NEED TO KNOW!
Do you have will? What is a trust? How do wills and
trusts differ? What is probate? What documents do I
need to provide if I or my spouse is hospitalized? What
information is ESSENTIAL for spouses to share in order
to make the transition from a shared life to a single life-
style? My will was written in another state (or coun-
try). Will it still apply in Florida?
These and other questions will be discussed at a special
program presented by the Arcadia Village Homeowners'
Association on Tuesday, February 25th at 7:00. Ms. Mar-
garet Martinek will explain legal issues associated with
aging and she will attempt to answer your questions.
Ms. Martinek received her law degree from Stetson Uni-
versity, College of Law, specializing in legal issues related
to aging.
Following the presentation of Ms. Martinek, we will also
suggest listing important information such as: pass-
words, safety deposit keys, finance papers, bills and their
due dates, out-of-state property information, etc.
This is a free program open to all residents of Arcadia
Village and their guests.
Wendy Carter, 638 El Presidente, 863-494-0739
THE SLEUTH BOOK CLUB The Sleuth Book Club will meet Thursday, February 20th at 3:00p at Kathy Rasmussen's house (740 International). AREA RECYCLE After you save your aluminum cans for “Al, the Can
Man”, don’t stop there!
We do have the option of recycling more household items. Desoto County Landfill has recycle bins for paper and cardboard, along with bins for plastic, metal cans, and glass. It is a quick 15 minute drive to the landfill in Nocatee. Call 863-993-4829 for more information. Deb Allen, 809 El Adobe, 616-915-7512
HEAD OF WELCOME WAGON STEPPING DOWN I am sorry to say that I am stepping down as the head of the Welcome Wagon Committee. This position requires a permanent resident who can welcome new residents all year round. Since I am a snowbird, I am no longer able to hold this position. If you like to meet people this could be right up your alley. If interested, please contact me for details: Ann Harper, 131 Buena Vista, 419-551-6949
HANDYMAN LISTING Well, it was fun while it lasted but alas, I can no longer publish the handyman listing due to legalities. Suggest you make a 3X5 card with your information and put it on the bulletin board in both clubhouses so people can get hold of you. Sorry for any inconvenience. Linda Scott, 709 International, 301-275-2049
THANK YOU FROM THE WELCOME WAGON I would like to THANK the residents and friends of Arca-dia Village Country Club for the generous contributions towards the Welcome Wagon Christmas Tree this year. We made $320.00. I also want to thank the Ice Cream Social folks for the donation and the Chinese Auction Committee for their contribution this year. We have welcomed around 40 new residents to our community this year. Again a big thank you.

Check-Out Romance “I met my husband while I was working in a science library. He came in every week to read the latest journals and eventually decided to
take out the librarian instead of the books. After a year and a half of dating, he showed up at the library and started rummaging through my
desk. I asked what he was looking for, but he didn’t answer. Finally he unearthed one of the rubber stamps I used to identify reference
books. ‘Since I couldn’t find the right engagement ring,’ he said, ‘this will have to do,’ and he firmly stamped my hand. Across my knuckles,
in capital letters, it read NOT FOR CIRCULATION.”

GUIDELINES FOR SCHEDULING
THE QUILT ROOM If you would like to use the Quilt Room for your meeting
there are guidelines to follow. We have many people us-
ing this room at different times. To prevent two groups from trying to use this room at
the same time you need to reserve it. This has happened
a few times. This procedure has been in place for the last
few years. Apparently not everyone knows about it. I’m the person you need to call to reserve the room for
your meeting. I will check the calendar and schedule a
time for you. There will be a calendar posted on the door
each month showing when the room is reserved. To reserve this room or any questions please call:

IT'S OUR 10th YEAR! Just getting
the word out a little early......... I can't believe that we are celebrating 10 years of
"Strollin 4 A Cure" Golf tournament! This is always held
on The Freeman's Appreciation Day! And a huge THANK
YOU To the Freemans for allowing this tournament to
take place.
You Do NOT have to belong to the AV Golf League, this is
open to all residents on this day.
If you are new to the Village, let me explain just what we
do. Desoto County has a large number of people with no
insurance or under insured when it comes to cancer re-
lated expense. Our goal is to give aid to those in need in
our own community with any cancer related expense.
100% of the funds raised stay here. We have helped
some residents in our own Village as well as those in
Desoto and Hardee Counties. We supply many gas cards
to those who can not afford to get to treatment, as they
must travel an hour away to oncology. The Desoto hospi-
tal also works with us for discounted treatment and re-
ferrals for qualifying patients. Feel free to contact me for
more information.
We are 501(3)C so your donations are tax deductible.
There will be sign up sheets on the golf boards in March
so please sign up early.
Also the day of the tournament we have signs placed on
the course to remember those who have lost their battle
with cancer and honor those who have won the
fight. These signs are $30.00 each. If you would like a
sign or to renew a previous sign, please contact me as
soon as possible to have a new sign printed. These are
also placed at the entrance to the Village after the golf
tournament.

Our February Cyndy’s Sip and Paint will be Wednesday
Feb. 5th from 2-4 pm at the Cantina Clubhouse. We will
be painting the Orange or Blue Tone accent pod to go
with the “Palm Tree” pod we painted on Jan. 15th. If you
have pods to donate or bring for yourself to paint, please
let me know. I had such a great turnout for the last class
that I am running short on the Pods. So could really use
some extras if you have extras. I will have some pods
with me for you to choose from if you don’t. On Feb. 26th
we will be painting the “Dancing Dolphins” on the 11 x 14
Gallery wrapped canvas. I will have templates for the dol-
phins.
These events are for Arcadia Village residence and their
guests. You do NOT need painting experience or to be
creative to join in the fun to paint in this class. The cost is
$20. per person per session and includes everything you
need – easels, acrylic paint, Palm Pods, aprons, brushes,
table covers, napkins and step by step instructions to cre-
ate your own masterpiece. Acrylic paint is quick drying,
and durable, so you can take your painting home at the
end of the class. All you need to do is sign up, show up,
and bring your favorite beverage.
Please register in advance by signing up on the sheet in
either of the Clubhouses.
Registering in advance insures we will have enough set
ups for each painter when you arrive, however we will
carry a few extras for those last-minute change of plans
or guests that were not able to register ahead of time.
Arrive a few minutes early so we can start on time, and
you can get your seats by your friends. You can pay at
the door. We are looking forward to painting with you.

they battle against cancer. Many of our own neighbors here in Arcadia Village have received the amazing assistance from Strollin’ For A Cure.
They have been provided with transportation to and from many appointments, help with chores and numerous
other activities without being asked for one penny. Please help us help others dealing with this terrible illness.
